NEW YORK -- It wont be this easy on Sunday. Chris Johnson Womens Jersey . Not when the Miami Heat come to town for what suddenly shapes up as a possible playoff preview. The New York Knicks sure look ready. Baron Davis scored a season-high 18 points on his 33rd birthday, JR Smith had 23, and the Knicks surged into a tie for seventh place in the Eastern Conference by routing the Washington Wizards 103-65 on Friday night for their ninth straight home victory. Carmelo Anthony and Steve Novak also had 18 for the Knicks, who could now be looking at a preview of a potential first-round series when they host second-place Miami on Sunday. The Knicks tied Philadelphia after the 76ers lost earlier Friday to New Jersey, and New York holds the tiebreaker for the No. 7 seed. New York held Washington without a field goal for more than 12 minutes -- essentially the length of an entire quarter -- in the second half "We want to protect our home court," Anthony said. "We want to make this one of the toughest places to come in and play and come in and win, and as of late weve been doing that and we want to keep that going." Playing only 29 minutes, Anthony was well off his NBA-leading average of 32.4 points through his first five games in April. That included 43 in an overtime victory over Chicago here on Sunday. A week later, its the same Sunday national TV spot for the Heats first trip to New York of the season. "Its another big game for us, another exciting game," Anthony said. "Itll be fun, the Garden will be rocking. Everybody will be watching. What better game to play in then Sunday evening against Miami?" Davis shot 7 of 9 in just 23 minutes for the Knicks, who won for the fifth time in six games and improved to 14-4 under Woodson, narrowly missing their second 40-point victory since he took over on March 14. They beat Portland by 42 that night. The point guard has battled injuries during most of his first season in New York, but said perhaps being in better spirits on his birthday carried into more relaxed play on the court. "I have the ultimate confidence in myself and in this team, and my teammates have ultimate confidence in me as well," Davis said. "Its just a matter of me just continuing to feel better and play as hard as I possibly can. But I know I can get better and I continue to get better as the season progresses and as we get into the playoffs." Jordan Crawford scored 17 points for the Wizards, who were trying to win three straight for the first time in their miserable season. But they shot 28 per cent and never led in their ninth consecutive loss to the Knicks. "Its embarrassing is what it was," coach Randy Wittman said. "Our effort tonight was uncharacteristic of what we have been doing. I dont know. It looked like we were overwhelmed from the jump ball when we walked in the arena. Maybe that happens to young guys." Washington had only 47 points after three quarters and was stuck there for a while in the fourth as fans chanted "forty-seven!" John Wall shot 2 of 12 and finished with eight points. His last basket was an impressive alley-oop dunk on the break that cut it to 62-45 with 7:03 remaining in the third quarter. But the Wizards managed just two free throws from then until the end of the period, then didnt make a basket in the fourth until Shelvin Macks layup with 6:43 to play. "The thing in this league is youve got to bring it every night," Wizards guard Roger Mason Jr. said. "That team we played against today, theyre fighting for playoff position and were fighting for our pride. They came out and just completely humiliated us. Thank God we have a game tomorrow and try to make up for it." New York solidified its hold on eighth place with a victory in Milwaukee on Wednesday, but quickly showed it isnt looking to settle for the lowest seed. The Knicks led 26-13 after one quarter. They closed the first half with an 18-5 burst to take a 54-33 lead after Washington had closed within eight, and gave everyone plenty of rest before the early start Sunday. The only bad news in the Knicks ninth straight home victory was Iman Shumpert leaving with a sprained right ankle after 23 minutes. NOTES: The Knicks have won the last eight meetings at Madison Square Garden. Their winning streak against the Wizards is their longest current streak against an opponent. ... Woodson said Amare Stoudemire, out with a bulging disk in his back, took contact while playing in a pickup game during Thursdays off day. He isnt expected to return until mid to late next week. ... Knicks PG Jeremy Lin had the stitches from his left knee surgery removed. Bruce Matthews Jersey . -- Yankees captain Derek Jeter says off-season moves have made the American League stronger and new Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine will make Boston even more exciting. Kenny Britt Womens Jersey . The Oklahoma City Thunder may just have to get ugly if they hope to make it a series. The Thunder have struggled to corral a San Antonio offence that is clicking on all cylinders during a 20-game winning streak, the longest any NBA team has been able to maintain into the playoffs. http://www.officialtennesseetitansgear.com/kenny-britt-jerseys . -- Calvin Johnson didnt practice for the Lions on Thursday -- and thats a report Detroit fans may need to get used to. Matt Hasselbeck Jersey .A. Happ struck out eight batters in a rare start as the Toronto Blue Jays bullpen held on for a 3-2 victory over the Texas Rangers on Friday. Chris Johnson Jersey . -- Matt Barkley was confident that No.GLENDALE, Ariz. - Andrei Kostitsyn keeps it simple for his turn in a shootout, and the strategy definitely worked on Monday night. Kostitsyn scored the only goal in the tiebreaker to give the Nashville Predators a 5-4 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes. Kostitsyn, shooting first for the Preds, beat Mike Smith through his legs for the win. "I try to do my best move to score in practice and then try the same thing in the shootout," he said. "We dont play many games against Phoenix so I dont know the goalie. I try to do many different moves in practice, and (Monday night), I did the wrist shot and scored." Phoenix trailed 4-2 early in the third, but Oilver Ekman-Larrson and Raffi Torres scored to help send the game to overtime. Despite giving up the four goals, Nashville goalie Pekka Rinne, who leads the NHL in wins, was strong down the stretch and to keep the Predators in the game. "It was a little disappointing to give up the two late goals, but we managed to get two points and thats the important thing," Rinne said. "It may not be so good when a team comes from behind like that, but with the win, you feel fine." Martin Erat had a goal and two assists for Nashville. Erat opened the scoring when his shot from the right faceoff circle trickled through Smiths pads with 29 second left in the opening period. He helped set up second-period goals by Mike Fisher and Francis Bouillon. Craig Smith added his 15th earlly in the final period to give Nashville a 4-2 advantage. Kendall Wright Womens Jersey. Then, the Coyotes responded. Ekman-Larsson scored at 7:11 to get Phoenix within one, and Torres tied it with 4:59 left when he poked in a goalmouth scramble. The Coyotes recorded one point and remained in seventh in the Western Conference. Colorado beat Anaheim in overtime earlier Monday and is one back of Phoenix with 78 points. "At this point in the season, you take every point you can," Phoenix coach Dave Tippett said. "We had to rally because we made poor mistakes. These are mistakes which cannot happen at this time of the year." Nashville pulled within two points of Detroit for fourth place in the West. Phoenix tied it twice in the second. Daymond Langkow tipped in Ekman-Larrsons shot from the right point 49 seconds into period. After Fisher scored, Keith Yandle drilled a 25-foot slap shot past Rinne at 14:23. Bouillon then knocked in his own rebound with 1:34 left in the second to make it 3-2. Smith and Rinne finished with 31 saves apiece. "We showed some resilience as a group," Phoenix captain Shane Doan said. "We had some big goals late in the third and tied it up. Its a big point but obviously no one is happy." NOTES: Erat picked up his second three-point game of the season. . Langkows goal was just his second in his last 21 games. . Nine of Nashvilles final 13 games are on the road, while Phoenix has five of its next six on the road. ' ' '
