"Do you think you're a killer? Just come here and try me!"

Name: Fenris Dierdred Jr. - 'Fen'

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Type: Technician / Werewolf Half-Blood

Partnered: No

Body + Soul

Winter Gear + Mask

Clothing and Description: Fenris stands 6' 1" tall, just over 155 lbs, with a slight build that hints at weakness, but defined muscles that say otherwise. His ragged hair only barely obscures his sharp hazel eyes. The unruly and unkempt mane he has may make him seem merely disheveled to an observer, and despite his own social inhibitions, he seems approachable. A ragged, yet suave look that is completed by a tenaciousness that shines in his eyes and features. Yet those with a trained (or magical!) eye will notice these, among other things, such as his just-too-bright brown eyes, or greenish tint to his soul, as tell-tale signs of wolf-blood. He cannot help these, for he is condemned to such by his bloodline. He is inclined to wear loose, dark blue pants, and a fitted, violet vest. In addition, Fen is partial to scarves, belts and bandages, which he wears in numerous amounts like rings to a rich king. When fighting in freezing or winter conditions, Fen wears a steel snow mask with viewing slits, and a large, camouflage half-poncho/cape. Since he obtained it, he enjoys wearing the snow mask for style, and typically sports it in all combat situations.

History: History is not something that Fenris enjoys freely talking about as he prefers to keep it to himself, however he is not a closed book and will elaborate.

  • Childhood: Fenris' earliest memories do not feature his mother, he was told that she left him while he was at a very young age. He remembers his father vividly, however. Do you know why your mother left? A grizzled man asked nonchalantly. A young Fenris Jr. shook his head at his father, Fenris Sr. She left because she was afraid. Afraid of what I was, when she found out he tapped on his wicked sharp teeth, just beneath his yellow eyes, And afraid of what you would inevitably become. His father was a werewolf, his mother a human, making him something in between. He never thought much of the traits that identified him as a half-blood: the ragged hair, the above-average strength, and the physical changes that rage and frustration brought on. At first he found them intriguing and exciting. In time, however, he grew to realize how polarizing his blatant animalistic nature was to others. He watched as his father used his wolf-blood to betray people's trust, to lie, and to murder without remorse. Fearing that this is what he would inevitably become, he began to suppress his ‘natural’ wild inclinations. Fenris Sr. did not approve, and was quick to judge the young Fenris Jr. for attempting to control himself. He knew he had to distance himself as far as possible from his father if he wanted to have any control, over his life, and his blood. Ashamed as he was, Fenris could not face his father, and so left early one morning, while the latter slept.

  • Pre-Shibusen: From hostel to hostel, doing his best to live on his own, Fenris tried to make his way through life without doing the terrible things he had seen his father do. He began to introduce himself as Fen to distance himself from him and his father’s history that bothered him so greatly. However, despite the best intentions, Fenris found that without the aggressive personality of his father it was difficult to deal with people socially. He had only ever learned how to manipulate and coerce people, the other side of the coin was near nonexistant in his father's world. So he tried his hardest, but occasionally, theivery and combativeness were his fallback. And what shy Fen lacked socially he greatly made up in brute force and aggressive tactics. Even after attempting to suppress his animalistic nature, fight or flight situations quickly reopened bestial doors which he had so desperately tried to shut. His wolf half-blood showed its true colors in close combat, and opponents who underestimated him based on his stature were quickly proven wrong. But after such encounters, he would look in the mirror, and see only a younger version of his father. He only knew the world his father had introduced him to, and immersed him in. There was no compassion such a world, only getting your way or dying. Fen could not live by such an ultimatum. Violence was not the answer. Handling his blood alone was not something he was capable of. He had to keep moving, the find something better.

Early in the morning, Fen was woken with a start as the ceiling of the hostel shook, and loud sounds were heard from outside. He grabbed his things and rushed outside to watch a monstrous, semi-human creature toss a body down main street. The victim picked herself up, and reached a hand out towards another human. He grabbed her wrist, and suddenly, he was no longer a human, but a weapon! Fen was awestruck as he watched her deftly defeat the beast with this human weapon, and afterwards, her weapon returned to human form, and swallowed the red soul that remained. He had not the courage to approach the duo, but asked around later, and were told that they were a team from ‘Shibusen,’ a school that trained these people to control their powers and use them to prevent beasts of some sort. Their goals did not interest him as much as the prospect of meeting others with strange abilities who were working to discipline themselves just as he was. As soon as he had money and was packed, he left.

  • Shibusen: Fen traveled to Shibusen in hopes of not only controlling and focusing his werewolf blood, but also to finally find a group of people who felt the same way he did, who were aspiring to control their innate abilities instead of just using them to escape their problems, or to dominate the weak. Their goal of collecting ‘Kishin Eggs’ was clearly a noble one, and if he must participate to become better himself, he would without hesitation (although it is secondary to his goal of self-improvement).

    - Admittance – Fen stepped up to the grand double doors, the markings reading “Death Room” above the portal.
Shini, Shini, Koroshi he stated, somewhat hesitantly, to the center of the doors. They creaked in acknowledgement, and swung open. As he walked further, the air began to smell fresher, the corridor slowly faded, leaving just the supports, until he stood in a seemingly endless room. There were steps up to large mirror, and Lord Death himself, in a conversation with one of the teachers. They noticed him approaching cautiously, and turned to greet him.
“Yoooiii Fenris, glad you could make it! I hear you are interested in joining my school."
”Shinigami-sama, he said, bowing his head just slightly. ”Just ‘Fen’ is fine!” he smiled. The teacher, a cheery, golden-haired woman with an eyepatch over her left eye, smiled and reached out a hand.
“Please to meet you Fen, I’m Marie! I’m…” She trailed off and her expression changed. Her extending hand hesitated, as if caught. Fen knew that she could see him for what he was, for what his soul showed he was. The expression she wore he had seen before, and it hurt him far more than any knife. Shinigami remained stoic.
“This is rather, unusual, you know,” he spoke quietly.
    ”I do…” he said, half-heartedly.
“You are also somewhat older than our usual applicants,” he tilted his head to the side. “And you have no experience with a weapon partner..” Fen waited quietly, fearing Shinigami’s decision. He did not know what he would do if he was turned away. “BUT!” Shinigami interjected, startling Fen. “I can tell that your intentions are good, and it couldn’t hurt to see what you can do!”
Marie watched Fen’s expression change, and saw only the joy of being finally accepted, and knew he was not the animal he seemed. Feeling guilty for her previous reaction, she extended her hand to him with confidence. “I hope to see you in class very soon, Fen! Welcome to Shibusen!”

So far all of those he had met had been most kind to him, and surrounded by the kindness of others brought out the best in Fen! Success or failure here may cement his future as a respected, good-hearted technician, or truly following his father's footsteps and nurturing the darker side of his wolf half-blood. Only time will tell!

  • The Lamb is Lost: After an encounter with a deadly Kishin Egg that nearly killed both Fen and his partner, she disappeared. One day they were in the hospital, the next she was gone without a trace. What bothered him was not the fact that she disappeared - on the contrary, it seemed very much like her to do something like that after a brush with death. No, what bothered him was that he was left with no one, then. She was the only one he'd gotten close to in the recent months leading up to the Mega Test, and now he felt as though he was back to square one. He could never for sure say if it was his own doing that caused her to leave.

Personality: Socially, Fen is initially somewhat shy. He warms up to people who show him compassion and can be very outgoing once he feels comfortable around them. Previously, he had not had much of chance to make friends, so he lacks some social skills, but is eager to nurture his compassionate side. Given the chance, he is sensitive to other people's problems, as he wishes for others to show him the same understanding. Due to no previous affiliation with any specific faction or group, he does not have any bias or hate towards witches, weapons, or any of the many magical beings that populate the world. However, throughout Fen's experience, the strongest male figure in his life was his father. Needless to say, after watching him betray and hurt people, he has gained an inherent distrust of males. On the other side, he never knew his mother, and those most kind to him while he was living alone were women, so he is generally trusting (sometimes overly so) of the women that he meets. Being just recently exposed to the kindness and compassion in the world, Fen finds himself to be a hopelessly romantic, and his optimism is growing. He still is wary around other men, but is capable of being civil. But he tries his best and is well on his way to controlling his blood and emotions, and developing a wonderful social life.

However, while he is capable of being more-or-less sociable, combat is where he struggles to maintain himself the most. Fen’s bloodlust is impossible to ignore when in combat, although it’s what gifts him with such aggressive brutality. He does his best and is capable of restraining himself, but one can only control themselves so much when the inherent goal is to slay your opponent. When it’s all said and done, and his assailant lays bloodied and broken on the ground, Fen gains a satisfaction and thrill that terrifies him greatly. A thirst which cannot be slaked by the tallest glass of cool water, or ignored by perpetual denial, that is the curse of bloodlust which Fen lives with. The path of least resistance would be to take advantage of the blood and use the intimidation and coercion he watched his father use so effectively. The rewards would be great and so easy to obtain. But control and discipline, love and compassion, are not so easily reached, which is why Fen tries to desperately to reach them. The temptation for coercion and carnage will always be there, until Fen transcends such inclinations, or succumbs to them. He hopes a healthy environment like Shibusen will help with that.

After the disappearance of his partner, Fen has grown more reserved. He's seen a bit more combat, and slain his fair share of Kishin Eggs, even Phasma, who nearly killed both Fen and his partner. He's wary to take another partner, and having come into his own as a fighter, would rather just play lone wolf.

Abilities:

  • Werewolf Half-Blood
Fen’s Werewolf blood affords him many special abilities, most of which he cannot access at will at this point. They may become stronger and more controllable if trained, or lost altogether if Fen does not nurture his bloodlust like his father did. They include:
    • Regeneration:
Fen's wounds heal quicker than an average human, but not quite as fast as a full Werewolf. (e.g. a small cut will heal nearly instantly, and large gash or sword wound will heal over the course of 5-10 min, depending on the severity, and a lost limb will take days to heal if limb is reattached.) Wounds from magic or magic weapons (such as human weapons, soul resonance attacks, witch magic, and demon tools) will heal even slower (yet still much faster than a human), and a wound from a silver weapon or bullet immediately cauterizes the wound, will not regenerate, and will hurt Fen greater than it would a normal human.
    • Partial Transformation: Comes on without warning when in an enraged state, characterized by sharpening of teeth, lengthening and darkening of hair into a ragged mane, eyes tinting yellow, ears pointing, skin graying, fingernails lengthening and becoming claws, and physical strength and stamina slightly increased as well as all Werewolf Half-Blood abilities being slightly stronger. His attacks will be stronger, but not as fast, making them easier to dodge. This by no means makes him anywhere near as durable or powerful as a full blood werewolf. Since Fen is at such odds with his bestial blood, he has attempted to suppress it, and by doing so has weakened all abilities associated with it, causing a partial transformation to be the equivalent of an advanced form of adrenaline, with an increase in strength (with great difficulty, could pick up and throw a car a 20 - 30 yards, could smash through concrete, leap to a two story window, etc.).
Fen has no control over triggering a Partial Transformation, yet it tends to come on during excessively violent or mortal combat, or when someone is in danger. While partially transformed, Fen is more susceptible to succumb to his bloodlust and may mortally wound or kill his enemies, even if they are already beaten.
    • Thermal Vision: The colors interpreted are dimmed to almost black and white, while all heat sources are seen in vivid color, brighter depending on temperature. It can be used to see people through walls or in low-visibility conditions such as blizzards or heavy fog. With intense focus, Fen may activate his Thermal Vision. However, such focus makes him unable to activate it while fighting, or maintain it after he has stopped his concentration. A Partial Transformation, however, is likely to bring on Thermal Vision without Fen’s intention. In such a case, it is difficult to return to normal vision without first returning to normal form as well.
    • More to come? Fen does not know all of the secrets of his bestial blood, and there may be other abilities that he has yet to discover!

Combat Style: Fen almost exclusively uses an aggressive fighting style, learned from his father. He prefers close, visceral combat, typically utilizing his fists and body, or claws (during a partial transformation). His fighting style is characterized by ‘a good offense is the best defense’ tactics, keeping the pressure on his opponent, and leaving any minor wounds to his innate regeneration. Having never fought witches or magical beings that would circumvent his regeneration, he would have great difficulty fighting without it. In addition, while still an adept fighter, Fen has had very little formal combat training and thus is left vulnerable to advanced tactics and fighting styles.

During a Partial Transformation, with Fen's feral blood at its most active state, he's far more feral and animalistic then at any other time. He's merciless, brutal, rarely dodging attacks and almost never blocking them, choosing instead to focus on maiming his opponent. However, while his strength is increased and therefore does more damage when he strikes, his attacks are more obvious and more easily dodged.

Miscellaneous Information:

  • Without the inherent distrust of witches or dark magic that comes with an upbringing in Shibusen, Fen is very intrigued by both, and will not hesitate in pursuing knowledge or interaction with either. He has no qualms about teaming up or dealing witches or other magical beings.
  • Fen’s calloused feet allows him to do most activities barefoot, which he prefers greatly to wearing shoes. He will put on footwear during cold weather, however.
  • Due to his blood, Fen has an above-average sense of smell, and often will recognize people by their scent. He is not particularly good at remembering people's names.
  • Fen has an aversion to his own reflection, as he immediately picks out the details that would identify him as a werewolf to the trained eye. Recently, as he’s made steps to seek control and discipline over his wolf-blood, it has grown slightly more tolerable.

Strengths:

  • Socially
    • Generally understanding and friendly, compassionate at heart
    • Adept at intimidation and fear tactics, but prefers not to use them

  • Physically
    • Adept at brutal, close combat
    • Regenerates minor/moderate wounds quickly
    • Unnatural strength due to half-blood and training (e.g. could pick up and throw an average human with moderate exertion, and with great difficulty could tear through steel or lift a car).

Weaknesses:

  • Socially
    • Aggressive tendencies are intimidating
    • Generally distrustful, more so of other men, and especially of other werewolves

  • Physically
    • Vulnerable to silver and magic
    • Weak in long range combat
    • Only some control over most abilities afforded to him by his Werewolf Half-Blood
    • Rarely attempts to block attacks while fighting, and never avoids or blocks attacks while in a Partial Transformation, meaning he could take a blow too serious to be regenerated during combat
    • Only some formal combat training

Roleplay Sample:
Once again, Fen was alone. The quiet room in the hostel was polarizing compared to the town still wide-awake outside, even late at night. He sat down on the bed and removed his jacket. Reaching into the right pocket, he pulled out his wallet, and flipped it open. Behind an I.D. card which read Fenris Dierdred Jr., was a few notes, enough to get him through the next couple days. He took a deep breath, relaxing onto the bed. He’d be leaving for Shibusen soon enough anyway. Hopefully, there’d be a brighter future there and he could put this behind him.
He’d just barely begun to close his eyes when he was awoken from loud noises outside. He left the room, and sound grew louder. It was coming from behind the hostel. He made his way outside and peered around behind the building to see what was causing the clatter. Three men in black jackets, gang symbols on each shoulder, in a circle, at the center of which was a young women. She couldn’t have been any older than Fen. Immediately he felt hot and his palms grew warm. No. This is none of my business. I should just leave well enough alone.. But he remained where he was, and watched as they attempted to pin her down. The smaller of the three was trying to remove her valuables and her wallet, but she was struggling, and she managed to get a leg free and kick him in the face with her high heel.
You b*tch! he cried, holding his hands to his bleeding face. The larger of the three reacted by hitting the woman in the face with his knee, opening a cut across her cheekbone. Fen moved quickly.
The largest of the three laughed as he struck the woman again. Suddenly, he found himself being struck in side of the face, hard. Fen planted his hands above the woman’s head, and turning around, kicked the largest man up off of her. He flew several feet before landing in heap. The other assailant that had her pinned was so shocked he didn’t have time to react before taking a hit to the face, followed by a blow to the chest, and then a kick to the throat. He collapsed, holding his neck, making agonized breath sounds. Fen turned to and was interrupted by a hit from a blunt object to his back. The smallest of the three had grabbed a piece of pipe, and was now swinging it wildly. Fen ducked to dodge a first swing, and used his forearm to deflect a second. It left a large gash, and Fen winced in pain. But he watched as the ends pulled together and the bleeding stopped. The man stumbled backwards in terror. Fen grinned. His pupils dilated, and his vision dimmed, suddenly replaced by bright colors. He saw the heat the man’s body gave off in brilliant reds and oranges. He saw the place where the man’s heat was the strongest, in his chest. He knew what made him tick. He knew how to make the ticking stop. Control yourself, Fen!. He leaped on to the man, claws extended, ready to gut this scum. No. Fen’s vision faded to normal, his claws retracted. I will not kill you. You are scum, but not an evil person. The man shuffled backwards on his hands, eyes wide.
Go on, get out of here! He motioned to him, who quickly picked himself up and ran. He had almost murdered that man. He knew he had wanted to very badly, and that scared him.
Are you alright? He helped the woman up. She didn’t answer. She seemed dazed, and she was bleeding pretty bad. As he tried to walk her inside, she lost consciousness. He grabbed his coat and wrapped her in it, and carried her to the nearest clinic, a few blocks away. He left before she woke up.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
