Partnered? No

Clothing and description: Hiromi stands at the relatively average height of 5'6'', with a lithe and athletic build. Her muscles are very well defined and readily apparent, though she still has a rather slim figure. Her clearly Japanese skin tone has a bit of a natural tan to it, giving it a vital, healthy appearance. Her breasts are rather small, bordering between the high end of A-cup and the low end of B. Between this, her muscular physique, and her relatively short hair, she can easily be mistaken for a boy, and on occasion will actively attempt to, either for the sake of a mission or just to mess with people. Her dark brown hair is very short in back, but a bit longer in the front, with sidelocks that frame her face and fall a little past her chin. Her bangs are short enough to keep them out of her light brown eyes, which are alight with self-assured confidence and cheerful enthusiasm for life. When viewed through soul perception, her soul is a slightly muted steel blue and its shape mirrors her hairstyle, with the long sidelocks in front and the short back. It's worth noting that her eyes turn the same color as her soul when she activates her soul perception, and that most of her soul-based techniques have the same coloration.

Hiromi's choice in clothing is widely varied, and she doesn't believe in having set outfits for specific occasions. She likes to mix and match on the spot, picking combinations that feel appropriate to the situation at hand as she sees fit. Her standard school uniform consists of a sweater vest or blazer worn over a white short sleeved dress shirt, with either a necktie or a bow tie, and either a pleated skirt or a simple pair of slacks to complete the set. For her feet she will wear loafers, and can be found in socks ranging in length from knee to thigh high. In casual situations she could choose to wear just about anything, including tops like t-shirts, hoodies, button-ups, polos, tank tops, or even just a sports bra on especially hot days. For bottoms she most commonly wears jeans or jean shorts, but also enjoys cargo shorts, skirts of varying lengths, or in rare cases slacks. Her footwear of choice is between sneakers, sandals, and boots. On occasion she will add headgear such as a baseball cap or cabbie hat to the mix. She almost never wears dresses except to highly formal events however, and particularly never wears heels. When embarking on a mission she will choose from any of the more practical options from her casual lineup.

History: Hiromi was born in Shibayama, in the prefecture of Chiba just outside of Tokyo city proper. Despite being the only child of Kaito and Chika Tsukino, Hiro grew up in a rather large family setting, as she and her parents lived in the same household as her uncle Ryouichi and aunt Akiko as well as their five children, four boys and only one girl. The two eldest of the boys, Kousuke and Haruto, were born before Hiromi, and the remaining three, Naoki, Miyu, and Touya, were all born after. Her father was the PE teacher at the local middle school, as well as the coach of the little league team she and her cousins played for in his spare time. Her mother on the other hand was an employee at the local branch of a software developing company, and as such worked much longer hours and was away from home more than her father. Due to this and the fact that her male relatives outnumbered the females, Hiro was raised in a predominantly male atmosphere. It was not a great surprise then when she began to display more and more tomboyish characteristics as she grew up. This trend continued as she began her school career, to the point that her fellow students occasionally mistook her for a boy. The first few times this happened she was annoyed, but after a while she grew to enjoy the looks of surprise and confusion she received as a result of such mistaken assumptions, and began to actively encourage them by dressing and acting even more ambiguously, even going so far as to borrow her older cousin's old middle school boy's uniform to wear to school as a joke.

However as Hiromi was preparing to enter her second year of middle school, her mother got a significant promotion at work, which was great for their income of course, but would also mean they would have to move into Tokyo city proper so she could work at her company's main headquarters. Since their new apartment was only two hours drive from their hometown, she could still play with her cousins every week, nearly everyday. However, the move did mean she would have to transfer schools, a prospect that was of some concern to young Hiro. While the classmates she had grown up with for years were used to her eccentricities, an entirely new class full of city people might not be willing to hang out with a tomboyish country girl like her. But no matter how she tried to act more feminine in order to better fit in with her new classmates, she just couldn't pull it off. It just wasn't her. So, deciding to drop the facade, she put on the men's uniform from her old school her cousin had lent her before and went to her new school in it one day, figuring the worst they could do was laugh her out of the classroom. As it turned out the worst the teacher did was give her a few days detention as a reprimand for wearing the wrong uniform. On the other hand her classmates, to Hiro's great surprise, grew much more interested in her as a result of her stunt. She even had a small fanclub a few days later, consisting mostly of girls, but including a few guys who found the idea of awakening her repressed femininity exciting.

But while she now enjoyed a certain sort of popularity among her peers, as unusual in nature as it might be, and she had various clubs and extracurricular activities in which to participate, Hiromi found herself curiously lacking in any sort of goal in her life. Her eldest cousin was studying to be a doctor, the next oldest had a talent for art and was looking to become a mangaka, even her younger cousin Miyu had made it into a training program for aspiring idols. But when she thought about what she wanted to do with her life, all that came to mind were the heroes and heroines of the manga, anime, and video games she and her cousins had enjoyed in their youths. But that wasn't exactly something she could put as her career choice on her high school application, and with her senior year of middle school coming to a close, she needed something to put. That was when one of her classmates made an offhanded comment as a joke that would change her life forever. "Well Hiro, if you want to be a hero so badly there's always Shibusen right?" At that moment a light went off in the young girl's head, and she immediately wrote down Shibusen as her high school of choice, much to the astonishment and slight panic of the girl who had made the quip. Her parents were similarly concerned about the dangerous school their daughter was suddenly talking about enrolling in, and they tried to get her to consider other, safer alternatives. But seeing how excited and determined she was, they agreed to enroll her in Shibusen's NOT program, figuring that would be a safer way to test the waters and see if becoming a meister was really what she wanted before going into EAT.

When the day finally arrived for her flight to Death City, Hiromi was thrilled of course, but also understandably anxious. This would be the furthest away from her family she had ever been. Even when she and her parents had moved into the city, her cousins had been only a few hours drive away. Now both they and her parents would be half the globe away, and the reality of what that meant began to sink in as they all saw her off at the airport. But she had decided that Shibusen was where her path was leading her, and nothing would deter her from that. Upon her arrival and the commencement of her NOT courses, she quickly found that while she was no longer all that unusual for her crossdressing and tomboyish tendencies, and that in fact such things were more or less common in the unique school. She also found that she was no longer the most athletic student, nor did she receive the top marks of the class on her tests anymore as she had back in her middle schools. In fact, she was rather average as Shibusen students went. And that just would never do. As soon as she had a basic grasp on soul theory she began attempting to obtain mastery over her own wavelength, dedicating long hours outside of class both with tutors and practicing on her own. It took a few months, but soon she was able to modulate her wavelength on a basic level, allowing her to resonate with weapon partners easier. A few months later and she had a rudimentary version of soul perception worked out. A year and a half into her NOT training, she had developed a form of soul purge in addition to continuing to improve her already impressive physical fitness. Only two years after she had arrived at Shibusen, she graduated into the EAT class, and is now eager to go out into the field and put her new skills to the test for real.

Personality: Hiromi is a highly driven and determined individual, and competitive almost to a fault. When she enters into a competition of any sort, she goes in with every intention of winning. Whether it be a friendly game, a written exam, or a life and death struggle, anything short of first place is a disappointment to her. Though in both victory and defeat she attempts to maintain a good sportsmanlike attitude, not always successfully in the latter case. She loves to rise to a challenge and push herself to improve, whether it be physically, academically, or even socially. However her self-certainty and unwillingness to accept defeat can also prove a detriment, as it leaves her unwilling to back down from even overwhelming odds. Especially in a situation where hers or others lives are on the line, she will attempt to assess her chances of victory before beginning a contest and avoid the confrontation if it looks unwinnable. However once a challenge has been accepted, she will do her utmost to emerge the victor, even if the likelihood of success is minimal. While this headstrong attitude can easily get her in over her head, it is just as capable of dragging her back out of whatever situation she gets herself into.

Hiro is a fairly reserved person, preferring not to show her feelings too openly. She'll often smile even when she feels sad, just to avoid anyone bothering her about what's wrong. She also has a rather even temper, so she won't fly into a rage at the drop of a hat. It's incredibly difficult to get a rise out of her with jibes and insults, though underestimating or patronizing her for any reason tends to set her off more than most. She sees herself very much as the heroine of her own story, and as such always seeks to behave in a way befitting a hero. Though this also gives her a self-centered streak, as she views herself almost like the protagonist and everyone else as supporting cast for her. This is not to say she looks down on others per se, she simply occasionally forgets to take other's feelings into account and just assumes they will want the same things she wants. Despite her often selfish and even brash nature however, she can also be very supportive of her friends when they need her. Her sense of empathy isn't the keenest, and she can easily miss emotional cues from others. But when she does pick up on a friend's bad mood she will try to cheer them up, and she will gladly offer her assistance when someone is struggling with something she can aid them with.

Hiro tends to be rather gregarious in her dealings with others, enjoying making friends and socializing with those she shares common interests with. This is a rather broad group, as her interests range from physical activities like sports and martial arts, to intellectual pursuits such as drama, literature, and music, to simply entertaining diversions like anime, video games, and so on. She even has some interest in what might traditionally be considered "girlier" things such as fashion or even romance, though this side of her rarely shows itself to strangers. It may be partially because of this diversity in her fields of interest that she does not particularly mind whether people think of her as a boy or a girl, and in fact chooses to purposefully confuse the issue on occasion. She is equally pleased to be seen as "cool" or "cute", though which she prefers can sometimes vary based on the situation at hand. As a result of spending the majority of her life in mostly male company however, she tends to be a bit more comfortable when acting out of her more tomboyish side, and much more uncertain when attempting to let her feminine side out more.

Abilities:

Technique Name: 波長習熟 Hachō Shūjuku (Wavelength Mastery)
Effects/Description: Hiromi has trained to master her wavelength, allowing her to modulate and manipulate it at will. The obvious benefit of this mastery is improved resonance rates with weapon partners, though it is not quite as perfect as the effect of a flexible soul. Because she must consciously shift her wavelength to match her partner's, high resonance rates become harder to maintain as she grows distracted unless she is used to working with the weapon in question. This can result in fluctuations of her resonance with her partner if a battle drags on too long or something draws her attention away for a moment. She can also use this ability to reduce the effectiveness of wavelength-based attacks, though she has not quite perfected this application. She can usually nullify about 50% of a soul-based attack's damage, but if her opponent is equally or even more skilled with wavelength modulation than her, that percentage may be further reduced.

Technique Name: 魄感知 Tamashii Kanchi (Soul Perception)
Effects/Description: Hiromi's soul perception is incredibly basic, only allowing her to see the shape and type of the souls of those around her. She cannot see through soul protect, glean detailed information about the soul, or use this technique as a lie detector. The maximum distance from which she can see souls is one hundred meters. Interestingly, her eyes turn the same steel blue as her soul when this ability is activated.

Technique Name: 魄道衝撃 Hakudō: Shōgeki (Soul Arts: Shock Strike)
Effects/Description: Hiromi's version of the soul purge technique, this is a directed wavelength-based attack launched against a foe's very soul. It operates as any soul purge would by forcing her soul wavelength into her target's body, after she has modulated that wavelength to cause a painful rejection reaction within the victim. This would feel much like an electric shock running through one's body, and will cause extreme pain, possibly even resulting in loss of consciousness if the recipient of the attack is weakened enough. To initiate this technique, she must make physical contact with an enemy, most commonly by punching them or striking them with her open palm. Due to the self resonant nature of this technique, it cannot be used while Hiro is wielding a weapon without risking damage to the weapon she is in resonance with, and can only be used once every three posts. It will typically take around three to five direct hits from this attack to take down an average, healthy kishin egg, though that number may be increased or decreased by factors such as the target's defenses against soul based attacks or other sources of damage or fatigue that may have exerted a pre-existing influence upon him.

Combat Style: Hiromi's fighting style is an amalgamation of numerous martial arts and other disciplines such as freerunning she has learned both in training at Shibusen and in the sports clubs and such she participated in back in Japan. She is a formidable adversary to have, hitting with the force of a championship lightweight boxer with reflexes sharp enough to snatch an arrow out of the air and a keen tactical eye that keeps her aware of the entirety of the battlefield at all times. However while she is generally above average in most areas, ranging from strength to speed to intelligence, she is far from the best at any of them. Her ability to manipulate her own soul wavelength helps her stand out from the crowd, but even her strongest wavelength-based techniques are dwarfed in power and utility by those who specialize in such fields. Similarly, she is well practiced in a variety of martial arts ranging from hand-to-hand disciplines to melee weapons, though her aim with ranged weaponry is mediocre at best. However when compared to a master of one given weapon or fighting style, she is incapable of matching up to their more dedicated skill. In short, while her balanced approach to training gives her a tactical diversity that allows her to adapt to any situation on the fly and keep her enemy guessing, it leaves her unable to compete with those who have focused on one skill above all others in that particular field. Nonetheless, she is more than capable of taking on a reasonably large group of ordinary thugs even without a weapon, and can hold her own against the average kishin egg unarmed or with a mundane weapon. When wielding a demon weapon partner, even a small group of kishin eggs would be hard pressed to take her down.

Miscellaneous Information: Hiromi is fluent in Japanese and English, and while she still has a bit of a Japanese accent when speaking English, it's not strong enough to obscure her meaning too much. Despite liking to be seen as strong and tough, she hates insects and spiders with a passion, and will often ask others to dispose of them if they're too large or grotesque for her to deal with.

Strengths:

  • Well balanced, capable of fulfilling almost any role required on a team
  • Physically strong and fast, as well as being mentally agile with a good head for tactics
  • Mastery over her own soul gives her a variety of techniques and other benefits

Weaknesses:

  • Despite being strong in many areas, she is not the best in any
  • Occasionally stubborn and reckless, leaving her unwilling to retreat when necessary
  • Strictly melee range combatant, has little to no way to engage a ranged opponent
