Character: Adria Sol

Mission to Hand In: Trouble In Suburbia

Technique Name: Advanced Soul Nullification
Effects/Description: Adria's soul can nullify a large portion of soul-wavelength and magic abilities. Her soul's compatibility dampens their power by 50%. It protects her and anyone who's in resonance with her, which includes being a compatible weapon-meister pair. It can reduce the effectiveness of these abilities by half, which means her meister can stave off the effects of madness twice as long, as well as only taking half the damage from abilities like soul menace. This also applies to magical effects. However, if the magic is used to create some other form of energy or object (i.e. creating fire with magic, conjuring steel weapons from nowhere, or throwing objects with magical telekinesis) soul nullification does not protect from this form of magic.

(replaces Soul Nullification)

As the end of yet another class, Stein wrapped things up... but then he said something peculiar that snapped a dozing Adria back to reality. She was usually pretty perky in class, but a combination of painkillers for her recent shoulder wound and the painfully dull subject matter got to her. She had a few notes, but she'd have to read up on it later to stay caught up.

"Adria, I'd like to talk to you after class today, if you're not busy. It's about your last mission."

The blonde jumped slightly, nodding and saying, "I can stay and talk."

After everyone filtered out of the room, Stein sat in his chair, backward as usual. "We may have gotten a lead on what these kishin eggs actually are," he said.

"What ones?" Adria was a little out of it.

"The horse-looking ones. The ones that attacked Piltover."

"Oh, sorry, I-"

"No need to worry, I understand," his eyes looked to the large bandaged patch that peeked out of the the collar of the blonde's shirt. "When we combed through the book you got on your last mission, and it seemed that there were several makeshift book marks. Most of them were blank, but we recovered these two."

He reached into his pocket and pulled out two pieces of paper in a plastic sleeve. The words on them were like the closing of a letter. They read, "Your sister, F-" and the rest was cut off. "I have my own theory, but I'll see what you make of it first. I never have seen anything like these books, but it seems like there's more of these things than we thought."

"What makes you say that?"

"The last letter you recovered mentioned a mother; this is signed by someone who identifies as a sister. Assuming this was sent to War, who was already considered a sister to Conquest, that already implies two more with the evidence we have."

"Oh, right."

"You take that and see what you can find."

So, Adria headed to the library. She got some books about... all kinds of things relevant. Even some that weren't exactly relevant like horseback riding. Somehow, in one of the books about war, no less, they mentioned the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse. Wait... four... we know of four of them, and War was one of them... She was a little rusty on her Judeo-Christian apocalypse stories, so she went to check it out straight from the horse's mouth. Opening a Bible up to the description of the end times. She found mentions of War, but none especially obviously stating Conquest was one of the horsemen... maybe it was something she wasn't reading between the lines close enough for. There was Death, obviously... but then there was Famine. Famine! Adria thought, moving the books to find the pieces of letter, That was the F! I have to go tell Professor Stein!

So, she made her way to Stien's office; he was sitting at his desk when she entered, rather quickly and abruptly. "Oh, Adria, did you find something?"

"It's the four horsemen of the apocalypse!" Adria said, causing Stein to stare at her like she's crazy. "Ok, maybe I should explain," Adria began. "Think about it... Conquest doesn't really fit, but we know of four of them, one is named War, the 'F' could be for Famine! And the mother could be the most powerful of all... Death." She stopped, thinking of how crazy she sounded. "I guess it sounded better in my head."

"No, I think you're onto something," Stien said. He spun his chair around to consult his computer. "It makes sense in a kishin egg kind of way. It's not often that kishin eggs come together like this, but it's not unheard of. It stands to reason that their communication implies that they are working together, and are sharing a theme. It's possible that they honestly believe they are the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse.

"There we go... in some translations, The first horsement mentioned can often be called pestilence, conquest, or... quite a number of things, actually. I think you might be right."

"R-really?"

"Yes. And that means that you'll have to be ready when either of these kishin eggs reveal themselves. I think they'll be more reserved than War was, if they embody their namesake. This appears to be the case, so we probably have some time before their power makes them too easy to spot for them to hide. I'd imagine they wouldn't appear otherwise."

"So, how should I get ready?" Adria asked.

"Well, I would suggest training your Soul Nullification ability; it seems to be your best defense against these kishin eggs. In the report, I hear that War had incredible power to influence you and your partner, rendering you both unconsious. I can only imagine that the remaining two would be even more powerful. Or, you could train a resonance technique with Kotsu. However, I wouldn't recommend the latter, because a technique like that can only be used if you two are able to perform it. Wouldn't you agree?"

Adria thought for a moment. A resonance technique would be good, but Stein was right. If famine weakened them too much to be able to use it, then what would be the point? But Kotsu... Adria saw her partner's face, heard her voice, watched her descent into madness.

"I'll train my soul nullification," she said.

"Ok, we'll start your training... next week, perhaps-"

"No, I'm ready," Adria stated. "I'll be fine."

"I don't want you to hurt yourself. Your injury- "

"Don't worry about it. We're just going to be training with the books, right? Let me do that for a while. Then we can do the stuff that could hurt me... you know, after my shoulder heals up."

"If you insist," Stein said.

So, they walked down into the dungeons and storage rooms, no doubt where the books are locked up tight - with all the power they possess. They walked for quite a while; Adria felt like she was going down into the center of the Earth, before they stopped at a large metal door. Stein took out a key ring from his pocket and unlocked the room with no less than 6 of them. Several were so irregularly shaped, Adria doubted that they would be very difficult to pick, if not impossible. The door opened with a large groan.

"Both of the books are here. Since you trained with the white book earlier, we should start with that one. In theory, it should be more familiar to your wavelength, and would be easier to resist then the red book that you haven't touched yet."

"But... I have."

"What?"

"During the last mission, I picked it up and threw it, when we needed to seal the General away."

"With your hands?"

"Yes."

"And you were easily able to just... throw it away?"

"Yeah."

"Well, let's start there then."

He flicked the lights on. Two podiums had been placed in the center of the room, and, on top of them were the two books. Adria could see their glow without the light, but it helped her to find her way around the room. The room itself had a very high ceiling, and was solid stone.

"Just pick it up. Maybe try reading it like last time," Stein instructed.

She picked up the red book and flipped it open to the beginning as she had before with the white book.

"Entropy is the way of the world," it read. Already it was somewhat familiar. "Let all who interpret this book understand the folly of the human's reluctance to embrace this force. Lead them to embrace this force. Humans are beings of destruction. They can do little together without creating strife, but they do not act. They deny the world its entropy. Let out this force, harness their pain, their indignation, their fury, their rage, let them destroy themselves as they truly desire..."

She dropped the book on the podium. He shoulder began to ache slightly, now that she was back in reality. Maybe it wasn't the best idea to train right now... like 2 days after he shoulder had been torn open. She picked it up once more, with Stien's watchful eye on her.

Fast forward a week, and Adria was taking full-on soul menaces... tanking as many as 3 in a row before asking Stien to stop. Even the infamous double-palm soul force falters slightly by the sheer adaptiveness of her soul wavelength.

"Is that all for today?" Adria asked after several rounds of attacks, then recovery time.

"You've come a long way, but I have one more test for one of my... theories. You can come in now," he called in a student. This student was small and clearly NOT status. He was thin and pale, and he was shaking in his shoes. "Don't be shy, you came here to train."

He nodded and ran over to Adria. "This will be your weapon partner for today. Don't worry, she's friendly."

Quickly picking up what Stein was going for. She transformed into the boy's trembling hands. Don't worry, this probably won't hurt... much.

Suddenly the hammer head fell to the floor with a dull "thud." Adria laughed, I was just joking! Just relax, you'll do fine. He lifted the hammer off the ground once more with a sigh of relief.

"Now, swing at me. Don't worry, I'm quite skilled in combat, so don't hesitate."

Naturally, the kid ran and took a clumsy swing, that Stein caught by the handle with his left hand. His right followed up with his signature attack, Soul Menace, knocking the NOT student back several feet. He stayed on his feet. "What was that?"

"It's just a little punishment for being so clumsy," Stein explained innocently. Not to mention that it normally would probably knock him on his ass or make him spit up some blood, "Please, continue."

Just try again, Adria encouraged. Hold on tight; your grip is a little loose, and move your right hand down a little... no the other way. Good. Now try the same thing again.

The student gave it another go. Stein side-stepped, and the pole arm clattered off the floor with a thud. He hesitated on the down swing, which was good. He could recover and jump back before Stein could hit him again. "Good, it looks like you're improving. I would have had some trouble catching that one. Again."

This went on for quite a while; with Adria's guidance the boy was able to prevent or evade most of Stein's follow-ups. Adria couldn't help but think that, by the end, Stein was using her to make his job of training some students easier... but did she mind? Not a bit.

After a while, he dismissed the student. When he was gone, Stein turned to Adria, "I think it's official, that your powers have advanced dramatically, and your resistance is still carrying over a stable resonance."

"So, no more training for now?"

"I think that will do it. Without a stronger tool of some kind, we probably can't train your wavelength much further... as it is, we're starting to see the diminishing returns as we go; this time, it took quite a while to train you this far. Consider your training complete."
