Armor Form

Clothing and description: Den has short cropped black hair, thin dark blue eyes reminiscent of sapphires, a long nose, and his lips are slightly thinner than average. With a slim, and slightly muscular (due to having to hold back his much stronger sister), frame Den stands at 5' 10" and his skin is only slightly tanned due to how little he gets out.

Den tends to dress well. Usually seen in suits, black leather dress shoes, a fedora with the family emblem as the pin (and tie pin), and on mission occasions, white gloves. However, he does have a casual wear, although almost never seen. With a white tee shirt with the family symbol, miniaturized, stitched onto the left sleeve in varying colors, and black pants. The shirt is sometimes made of silk. He also usually wears sunglasses during the day. He also likes disguises, one of his favorites and easily used is an old man disguise where he uses some make up for liver spots and to exaggerate wrinkles. He also procures a cane or umbrella, while either putting on a white/grey haired wig or a bald head cap thing and perhaps a fake mustache or beard the disguise is complete. He can change his guise somewhat easily. However, he still stays 5' 10" and doesn't wear contacts, colored or otherwise. He usually uses disguises on mission or when he deems it necessary (ex. due to boredom). As to the why he does it, because he can.

Den's weapon form's volume is directly related to his volume. It's about half of his own volume, and is initially a glossy silvery grey metal sphere and can change form from there, liquefying and solidifying to change forms. He can technically become any weapon imaginable, but he does have limits which are further explained in his abilities.

If Den's soul was to be looked at it would appear to be a silvery grey color with many weapons sticking out of it. On the top there would be signs of cracks as well. He also has a faint 33 seemingly engraved on the side of his soul.

History: The Ekigane family was founded through the son of a witch and a demon weapon about 700 years ago. Once the witch noticed her son had obtained a demon weapon form she had, out of some motherly love or urge to protect her son gone astray due to the destructive sway of her magic, began experimenting on him trying to obtain the perfect demon weapon. The more she worked on it the more distant she began to feel and eventually forgot the reason behind her goal and that her subject was her son and magically tattooed a 1 on his chest, and even onto his soul. Eventually she ended up melting her son's weapon form and viewed it as a failure, but still continued to work on him. The son never tried to control his new weapon form when his mom was around and when he gain enough control over his new form and with the element of surprise managed to kill the witch. He then changed his name to Ekigane to erase his old life and in tribute to his new form, which he later found to be transferred into two of his three sons. The first son to realize this ability gained a 2 tattoo on his foot and the other got a 3 on his neck, but the youngest grew jealous of his older siblings powers having a plain knife weapon form and began killing people and devouring their souls and began turning into a kishin egg and being killed by the relatively new shibusen. The other two sons had children and it became apparent that they could not escape their past easily as many decedents became witches and kishin eggs. But it didn't take long, and a lot of purging, for the Ekigane family to be renowned as a demon weapon family whose members often became Death Scythes while in Shibusen, and with members that were financial geniuses they also became known for their wealth. While still somewhat wealthy now, their peak was about a century ago and a good portion of the wealth had been wasted.

It was in this family that Den was born into and being from the main family, thus having most of the Ekigane’s wealth, he had been raised wearing suits and tuxedoes and feels more comfortable in them. His feelings toward chivalry, personality, and manners were also formed by his upbringing, which lead to a few quirks like having difficulty asking questions after being forbidden to ask questions in early childhood.

He also has an older brother, who is a weapon and currently owns the house Den resides in, and a younger sister that he likes to help. His mother was sickly and constantly nagged him to do things, so far as to threatening to kill him and hitting him, the reason behind this was secretly because he wasn’t a weapon at the time and didn’t show any signs of it. His ability to bottle up anger grew there, as well as his temper. He also was teased in school and when he learned to ignore them he began to treat the teasing and insults as jokes, but couldn't tolerate people insulting his relatives and his temper was unleashed at those times. Den is naturally easy to distract, but it's more of a sign of his boredom than anything else depending on the degree of ease. Sometimes he'd be distracted for a moment and go right back to whatever he was distracted from. His laziness came from doing things one way only to have angry parents or teachers tell him to do it in another way and he just didn't want to. However, he always pulls through whenever needed or something had to be done. His brilliance can be seen sometimes, mostly in school work or on some sort of game/project. His friends from before he went to shibusen had considered him to be really smart, although they were more likely to call him an idiot or stupid due to something he had done, even though sometimes they were the one who asked him to do the things in the first place.

Due to having no signs of being a weapon most of his training was to become a meister, until one day when he was fourteen he saw his friend being attacked and he rushed at the attackers and suddenly his left hand became a metal pole, he didn't think about it and swung it at one of the attackers. The rest of them turned to face Den, but his pole had turned into a sword blade and they ran. His friend had asked Den where he got the sword, to which all Den could say was, "I don't know." Den's friend thanked him and went on his way. Den went home wondering where the sword came from, and where it went, disbelieving what this could mean. He told his parents and they told him he may have finally become a weapon. After examining his body and finding the 33 tattoo on him they realized he was the same weapon as his great grandfather, able to become liquid metal and turn into any kind of weapon, the signature weapon of the Ekigane family and the missing 33rd liquid metal weapon, his sister being the 34th. After finding out what had happened he decided to switch from a meister to a weapon and became further distant with his parents who started giving him attention that he no longer, nor ever, wanted. It was around this time his sister gave up trying to control her weapon form and for the following year they trained together, now switching their paths.

As with all members of the family who wished to go to Shibusen he was sent to Shibusen soon after his 15th birthday and went to live with his brother. When he got there and was given a name tag with the instructions to put his name and whether he was a meister or weapon on it and wrote his name and under it Weapon. Due to some combination of his family name, bribery from his family (particularly Marcus (and with Den completely unaware)), and the prowess he had shown in early classes, Den was bumped up into the EAT class despite not having a partner yet.

In his time in Shibusen Den has taken part of many missions that I no longer care to mention due to the change of site, though I suppose some mention shall go to the previous school wide test as it may prove to be relevant later.

Personality: Usually quiet and mellow, Den often times seems rather aloof if not anti-social, but perhaps he's a bit shy or just doesn't like getting out much. Often times if you meet him it will be during a mission or in school. Den considers himself chivalrous, especially with his upbringing. Unfortunately, Den doesn't get out often enough for such behavior, however minor it actually is, to be noticed. However, due to this he is, as a chivalrous man, incapable of hitting a girl himself, physically and mentally he stops himself. Even in times of great anger and stress he might threaten it verbally and making the proper physical movements, however the attack will not hit, at most stopping no less than an inch away from contact. When it comes to female kishin eggs and evil witches he will not stop someone from dealing the blow.

Den has nothing truly against kishin eggs in particular, it is a combination of duty of not only being a weapon but also a member of the Ekigane family and the desire to bring such murderers to justice. He is also somewhat stubborn when it comes to completing missions, doing his best to prevent failure. Despite this, he has no particular interest in becoming a Death Scythe.

However, Den is rather carefree and tends to go with the flow in all other aspects therefore if his meister would want to make Den into a death scythe he won't stop said meister. His carefree attitude may cause some friction between him and a few people due to a perceived lack of training, or interest in becoming stronger, and the ease that his success seems to happen, even if Den isn't cocky, but rather humble, about such things.

In social situations, Den remains nice and never swears. But as mentioned before he is rather quiet and it'll take quite a bit to get him to open up properly, even among friends. As long as someone, friend or total stranger, is in danger Den will try to help and/or protect them, depending on what he perceives as the threat.

Although Den is extremely patient and slow to anger, there are a few things that may easily set him off, such as lost/thief of a possession of his, particularly his hat or sunglasses. The lack of such habitual accessories will make him feel uneasy for a few hours before he calms down and mellows out. Such uneasiness is lessened in time period and strength if he knows it's with someone he trusts. Luckily, Den isn't attached to any particular hat (except the one with Ryou) or pair of sunglasses and they can easily be replaced.

Den's personality also drastically changes around his sister, he becomes over protective of her and loves spoiling her in his own way, namely by refusing to do something she asks for but doing it anyway or occasionally having her say please if he notices that she hadn't said please. He views her as his cute little/baby sister that needs to be cared for. But occasionally he'll actually refuse to do something for her, whether it be because he's too busy to help, too tired, or doesn't have the resources to get it done. He'll rarely refuse to do something for her just to have her learn to do it herself. When angry with her he'll absolutely refuse to do anything for her, but he can't stay mad at her for long, most often lasting only 30 minutes-2 hours, and rarely lasting more than a day. He'll occasionally hug his sister, even when she doesn't want it, most of these cases involving him sneaking up on her when she least expects it. Den also feints being afraid of her whenever she threatens him and later laughs at it when she isn't around.

Den has fallen in love with Ryou, and has to an extremely limited extent been influenced by her own personality, but such events are rare at best. But other aspects of his personality have appeared due to this. Such as being somewhat clingy, apparently having romantic tendencies, and even minor jealousy (can handle guys looking at or talking to Ryou and circumstances are understood somewhat, any further may have varying consequences depending on how severe Den believes it is. Doesn't apply with girls).

Abilities:Due to having been a martial artist at some point Den has above average balance when he isn’t sleep deprived, which also prevents him from falling over as much when he is sleep deprived. He can either eat souls/kishin eggs or assimilate them as a weapon by engulfing the kishin egg in the liquid metal. Den can also match his soul wavelength with most people. The more focus a person tends to be the better he can keep his form.

Technique Name: Shapeshifting
Effects/Description: When someone wields Den, his weapon form reacts to that individual, and turns into a certain type of weapon. For instance he could only turn into scythes for Maka Albarn. Unfortunately Den can only transform into melee, throwing, bow, and gun related weapons at this point as he needs to understand the mechanisms and/or structure of the weapon he is turning into. It takes barely a second to change from one form to another.

It also has been said that Den, and other liquid metal weapons, have a size limit that’s directly related to their mass, transforming would reduce their mass by half. He prefers to turn into weapons, but may use any leftover metal to create armour. Due to this the maximum would be turning into a full suit of armor and leaving only enough for a small/thin weapon, like a kodachi or short spear. He can also become multiple throwing weapons or arrows, from five javelins to 50 shuriken without armor. However, only one throwing weapon/arrow can be held at a time. Den's gun forms all act in a similar manner to gauss or rail guns (basically using electromagnetism instead of gunpowder to shoot out projectiles). Ammunition for gun forms is actually limited to actual pieces of Den's metal and can range from seemingly unlimited (several thousand pellets/small bullets) with a simple pistol to maybe 1000-500 with a much bigger gun like a rifle or machine gun to possibly 10-5 for things that requires larger ammunition. Unfortunately, his gun forms make him especially prone to his third weakness and reloading would require retrieving the pieces of metal shot out.

He can't move if he transforms into armor by himself as he needs the improved power that being with a meister provides.

Technique Name: Arsenal +1
Effects/Description: A passive ability that unlocks a second weapon form for Den's partner to access.

Technique Name: Partial Transformation
Effects/Description: Like many other weapons Den also has the ability to partially transform a limb into part of his weapon form. Currently, he has only transformed his left hand, into the weapon. His left hand can currently turn into the upper section of a club, a blade, a short pole or a sort of pseudo-gauntlet. He lacks the sufficient wavelength to dexterously move his gauntlet though. He can also turn his fingers on both hands into roughly finger sized things. A few examples include keys, small swiss army knives, finger length wires, nails. Or the fingers can "melt" together to make things as well.

Technique Name: Metal-morphasis
Effect/Description: Den has learned how to improve his soul compatibility, both with himself, and with others. This improved resonance is shown by Den’s Demon Weapon form shining certain tinges. Bronze is the most basic level of improved resonance, with silver denoting medium range, and gold denoting the use of ‘soul resonance.’ Meister-unique colours have been presumed, but as of yet Den has been unable to discover any of these. Den can also use Bronze resonance by himself.

The practical side of metal-morphasis is that it improves the quality of Den’s transformations. Weapons will be sharper, more balanced and more resilient than they used to be. For ‘Bronze’ level his weapons will be equal to a mundane weapon, for silver his weapons will be equal to the top calibre form of that weapon (eg: Very sharp and well balanced sword), and whatnot. Meister-specific colours may have other advantages.

Soul Resonance Technique Name: Ouitsu Ekigane-Harpy (Overflowing Liquid Metal-Harpy)
Effects/Description: A soul resonance between Den and Ryou. In this Soul Resonance it will dramatically increase the amount of liquid metal in Den's weapon form to allow the formation of lightweight upper body armor with metallic feathered wings forming from the arms as well as metallic talon like boots. A blade on each arm are concealed within the wings at a perpendicular angle from Ryou's arm and is attached to the armor at her wrist.

The feathers of the wings are formed individually and each are sharpened making the wings effectively made of knives. The talons on the feet are capable of carrying and holding objects as well up to a fit 5'-6' tall man, assuming Ryou isn't on the ground. Small objects cannot be held with any sort of efficiency if it requires the use of fingers. Harpy also gives Ryou the capability of flight. When attacking Den can have the blades on Ryou's wrists swing out, so it is along the back of her hand. The Soul Resonance is made to be fast and is more suited to diving attacks. The soul resonance will last for a single post.

Technique Name: Electro-magnetism
Effects/Description: By sending soul wavelength, his own in partial and with a meister's in full, through his weapon form Den can turn the metal into a powerful electro-magnet. With it he can attract or repel nearby metals, this is useful if his meister gets disarmed and can be used to it's fullest potential in areas with metal structures and objects. in partial with bronze glow he can attract or be pulled toward metals three quarters of a foot away, with the silver glow the distance becomes 1 and a half foot away. In full transformation and partnered the bronze glow's distance becomes 3 foot away and silver becomes 6 feet away, and potentially gold level is 15 feet away. The distance is the same for repelling as well.

*the Bronze, Silver, and Gold rankings refer to Metal-morphasis ranks.

Soul Resonance Technique Name: Ouitsu Ekigane - Seraphic Valkyrie (Overflowing Liquid Metal Seraphic Valkyrie)
Effects/Description: A soul Resonance between Den and Ryou. When activated, the metal in Den's form increases dramatically, allowing the creation of a full set of armor (minus spear), her chosen weapon, and six feathered wings sprouting from her back. The armor is very sturdy and reduces damage from all kinds of attacks. The wings are generally stationary, but Ryou can move them as if they were a part of her, and she can use them to block as well. This form is very defensive. Valkyrie lasts one post.

One Training Token

Combat Style: Due to Den’s upbringing as a meister turned weapon, Den had been taught some martial arts, using primarily kajukenbo (already a hybrid of karate, judo, jujitsu, kenpo, and Chinese boxing), mixing in some boxing and various weapon arts (which he never mastered), to help him as a meister. However, he had dropped martial arts once he found out he was a weapon.

With his martial arts (what's left of it anyway) and his range of partial transformations he is capable of becoming an autonomous weapon, and when he has to he does. However, he isn’t quite on par with many of the meisters in his class, much less than in Shibusen as a whole, partially due to being somewhat out of practice.

Despite dropping martial arts he hasn’t forgotten everything and his fighting style is laced with traces of things he learned from martial arts (basically anything I remember when I write a post with him fighting). But he tends to balance between reckless and cautious depending on his mood at the time.

As a weapon he deals with properly resonating souls, having a bigger influence over it than most weapons. This frees up his meister to worry about the actual combat at hand. Den isn't 100% sure how this all works if asked and would just tell someone, "it just feels right" when asked how he's improving resonance rate. Unfortunately, this also means Den isn't correct all the time, easily notated by the color and brightness of his Metal-morphasis's glow, since he also has to get used to the other wavelength before he can synchronize the resonance. Occasionally, when Den feels he has a good grasp on the resonance rate, he'll look around from within weapon space and try to give his meister at the time advice or warnings, although most times it seems the other RPer doesnt read the meister ignores such things.

Miscellaneous Information: Den can memorize music, but it’s more like sheet music, and his music playing level is average. Den also tends to make his own food, he prefers spicy food but rarely likes Mexican food, if he doesn't follow a recipe it won't look bad but it won't look good either, but strangely it’s good, better than it looks, he also can make breakfast type foods (ex.: eggs, bacon, pancakes, waffles, etc.), tuna salad, various Asian soups, and udon noodles. Den doesn't really have any preferences for anything. He is a master of disguise. Den also has irregular sleeping pattern and prefers to take naps whenever he can rather than to actually have a full night of sleep, due to this sometimes he'll seem to stumble or be off balance when walking around. He has a knack for learning new languages, and so far he has learned English as a second language (Japanese being his first).

Strengths:

  • Slow to anger
  • Extremely adaptable
  • Soul Wavelength matches with almost anyone

Weaknesses:

  • When paired with a meister his forms are limited to whatever forms the meister is most comfortable with (if the meister is strictly a scythe technician he will only take the form of scythes, if the meister is a ranged fighter his forms are limited to throwing and projectile weapons).
  • Weapons he transforms into tend to be flawed in some way and takes him about 1 second to transform between weapons and 1 second uninterrupted to repair self (can't be used in fight while repairing self, including fixing dents, fixing cracks that appear, etc. It doesn't apply to gathering any of the liquid metal used to make throwing weapons as all it has to do is gather with the rest of the excess metal, so it can vary depending on what has been done to the excess).
  • If a part of him is captured as a throwing weapon then he is forced to stay as a weapon till it is recovered.

Roleplay Sample:
"Late!" shouted Den's brother, Marcus, as Den yawned and trudged around fixing his tie and looking for his blazer, finding it on the back of a chair where he put it the day before.

"Late!" continued Marcus, "and on your first day too. You're a pupil of shibusen and already you're making a bad first impression." To which Den replied, "Yeah, yeah. i'm going already." and Den left the house and began walking to shibusen. Marcus and his being on time thing, probably one of the few things he wasn't lazy about. The way Den figured it he'd only be late by a minute or two.

When Den got to shibusen he went to an office he was told to go to for class assignment. There he was given a name tag and told to write his name and whether he was a meister or a weapon. He wrote his name and 'weapon' underneath it. He was then told directions to the classroom he was to take his classes in and Den set off to find it. While walking to the class Den took out sunglasses from his pocket and put them on, as everyone would probably look at the new kid. Well he didn't want them to see where he was looking, paranoia somewhat kicking in. But getting to the classroom happened sooner than Den thought and he grinned ready to begin in shibusen and pushed open the door.
