Character: Giles LeBello

Missions to hand in: 3F

New Ability Name: Dex MKII (aka. Gentleman Dex)
Effects/Description: Dex has a new version, where his abilities change dramatically, as well as his design. He still is made of plaster and has similar agility and speed to the original Dex. Now, he's designed as a fencing golem. Wielding a rapier that is regulation size, 56". It has an ornate cup guard to protect his hand. Dex is still humanesque, although designed to look like a fencer in full fencing gear. The best part is that the gear is part of the actual golem. It's carved out of plaster as well. his Emeth Mark is in the center of his chest. Dex now has a new fight code, based on both parrying with the rapier and dodging. He also has several lunges and feints in his arsenal. He keeps his strategy to his usual damage evasion until an opening appears. Now his issue with power is remedied by using the weapon's weight, not his own. He now has 1x the power of an average fencer, but 1.25x the speed. Although Dex MKI still exists, he is (mostly) retired as a fighting bot. He is still a cherished member of Giles's "family".

Any other changes:

Under Combat Style:

Giles, being a golem technician, usually stands back and lets the golems do the work, as would be natural. Until Maud's code improves, he trys to keep his team limited to 2 golems, if only so he can keep an eye on Maud.

Giles was at the gym, running his version of diagnostics on his golems. Dex was doing well with the speed bag, his dodging was still up to par; his repairs were holding just fine, and seemed to be a total success. Of course, Dex was turning a few heads at his station. After all, he was hitting the bag faster than humanly possible, and at first glance, he could easily be mistaken for a normal shirtless gym-goer. With a slight feeling of smugness, he checked on the other member of his team at the heavy bag.

Maud was just standing there, in a way that Giles thought he was stuck again. But, before he could take two steps in that direction, Maud lifted a heavy limb, and smacked the bag so hard it swung a few feet before the bag succumbed to gravity, came back and smacked the golem square in the face, the canvas leaving its pattern imprinted on the surface. Giles just put his palm to his face because words couldn't express how stupid that was. As Maud cocked back another block of clay to do it again, someone else caught Giles's eye.

It was a pair of white-clad people with masks fencing in a corner of the gym. Their strokes were quick, and fluid. He watched them go back and forth for a while, until one was bested. The winner stripped off her mask in triumph, her blonde hair falling down just around her neck. She got quite a smug look on her face, before the other combatant took his mask off, clearly disappointed, as they both geared down.

Giles thought to himself about how Dex hasn't been quite as... good as he's imagined. Sure he's fast and he can dodge, but that didn't stop him from taking one hell of a beating at the hands of the Slenderman kishin egg. Maybe boxing isn't quite the way to go... it's not exactly lethal, although you can bludgeon someone to death with your bare hands, sure. But, maybe...

Giles was interrupted right then, "Hey, those your golems?" came an effeminate voice. It was the none other than the fencing girl, who was gesturing to Dex and Maud.

Giles smiled smugly, as Dex finished his test run, ending in a dignified pose. "Yes, they are," as Maud decided to punctuate the sentence by helping himself to another canvas sandwich.

Marion smiled equally smugly, while replying sarcastically with a chuckle, "Nice."

"Um, so, are you an aspiring golem tech or something?" he asked, thinking back to his trip to Hawaii, "I met one not to long ago, come to think of it."

"I'm already a golem tech," she replied. "but your designs are interesting. What's he made of?" she asked, looking at Dex.

"Plaster," Giles replied, "he may not be as sturdy as a ceramic golem, but he's faster than any of them, guaranteed." Dex took his position next to Giles, standing at the ready. "He's my main golem, and a great one at that."

"Well, I hate to break it to you, but I doubt that he's a match for Paratus. I'm sure that you can tell that he's my golem."

"Your golem may be strong, but I think you're underestimating his abilities," Giles said, trying to match her polite, if not professional demeanor."But if you want to give it a try, then, I'm game."

"Well, if you insist,"
Marion said, "I believe introductions are in order. I'm Marion Annette," she said extending a hand that Giles took, "And you are?"

"Giles, Giles LeBello. Nice to meet you, Marion." Inside, he was rather miffed that she was disrespecting Dex, and questioning his skills, but he followed her precedent to keep things civil. "I can clear the fight with Sid if you want," Giles offered.

"That would be wonderful. How does in front of the academy in one hour sound?"

"Perfect."
----------

One hour later, on the dot, Giles and Sid were watching Marion ascend the stairs of the DWMA to combat a fellow student, as many had done before in this location.

As their golems stood at the ready, the combatants decided to let them do the talking.

Piratus was the first on the offensive, taking a vertical strike at Dex with one of his four arms. Dex sidestepped, and cocked back a fist to punch, only to register another threat and duck instead, as Piratus threw a double left hook. While downstairs, Dex riddled Piratus's midriff with four superhumanly fast jabs. His fists made some slightly disappointing "whump" noises as they glanced off the reinforced hull. Dex reeled back to avoid a swipe from Piratus's right arms, only to stagger back from the force of being cracked in the head. Although he'd cleanly avoided the arm, Giles saw that Piratus had a few surprises in store for them, blades jutting out of his palms. Luckily, now that his code knew that there were blades involved, it could compensate appropriately.

Piratus swung again with his upper left hand, as Dex took another step back, before following up with a huge right to Piratus's head. Unfortunately, heavy attacks aren't Dex's forte, and caused him to take a double right to the body. Dex staggered, allowing a follow-up from Piratus. As cracks appeared on Dex's torso, Giles through in the towel. "Stop! You win!" Giles said, running in and stopping Dex before he tried to damage Piratus some more, since Giles blew the whistle already.

Marion smiled smugly, as Giles inspected the damage. Dex was kneeling much like a human would if they had the tar beat out of them. The cracks weren't deep enough to cause serious issues on the way home, but they didn't good at all. "My repairs," he moaned in an almost comedic disappointed fashion, before he saw two hands extended out to him. One was Piratus's, and the other, Marion's. Dex took the former, and Giles took the latter.

As they were both helped up by the ever polite Marion, she gave her advice, "Although I can admire your creativity, your golem seems to lack some potency... it needs a little more attack power, it seems. He's hard to hit, I'll give you that. But carrying on the way he was, I'm afraid that he could spend hours chipping away at Piratus, and he would barely have made a dent."

Giles's mind was working hard to come up with a way to do this without modifying Dex too much. Maybe... he thought to himself, before Marion was about to make her exit.

"I must be going now," she said, turning away, her expression still smug, but a kind of smug that Giles could deal with.

"Wait!" Giles pleaded, causing Marion to stop, and turn to face him. He got a little sheepish now; he couldn't explain why. Maybe it was her piercing amber eyes, or perhaps the fact that his pride and joy of a golem was just shown up. But either way, he continued on, slightly red in the face, "I saw you in the gym earlier, fencing with that guy."

"Oh?" she looked at him, almost as if she knew what he was about to say.

"I was wondering... if you could teach me?" he asked, rubbing the back of his neck nervously with his gloved hand. "Because I think that might be the answer to Dex's lacking power."

She deliberated for a minute, before her smile broadened a bit. Evidently, the "beat the crap out of each other until you're friends" paradigm was hard at work here. "Ok, Mister LeBello. We'll just see if I can teach you."

"Um, I meant more for Dex, really," Giles said, realizing that he misspoke, his face growing even more red as he jumped a little.

"Don't worry; I'm sure it will come in handy," Marion smiled, "but remember, I'm going to ask you a favor in the future, if I help you right now."

"Deal."
-------------

After a few days of progress Giles was considered a lost cause, but they found that a new plaster golem, Dex MKII (for Giles could not bring himself to part with the old Dex) proved to be a much better student. Giles was able to tweak his fight code as Marion got a great sparring partner, and Giles got to improve Dex's design.

After a few weeks, Dex could best Marion with a roughly 85% chance of victory. "He's ready," Marion said with a nod. Giles couldn't agree more, if it weren't for the fact that he had just one finishing touch...

He had Gentleman Dex put the practice epee back on the rack, and then fitted the bot with a belt holding a rapier that Giles had imported from France. Now, he could agree- Dex MKII was ready to take on some missions.
