Character Name: Pavel Barysevich Kravets Age: 18 Gender: Male Type: Weapon Partnered? No. Clothing and Description Spoiler: click to toggle Not overly tall, though certainly compact in his build, Pavel is 5’10” tall, and weighs 154 pounds. He is very light pinkish-white in complexion, and has a few red freckles lining his face, and several lining his arms. His hair is an ashy blonde, relatively free of rufosity, (reddish pigment) and sometimes even acquiring a hint of a silvery hue on cloudy days. Pavel keeps his extremely straight hair at a medium length, and in a Moe Howard-like bowl cut at a level just above his browridge. His browridge is not too projecting, but it looks heavy from the front due to his very low eyebrows. His cranium is tall, (also translates to high forehead) of medium length, and of great width. His eyes are steel-gray, with a hue so strikingly natural that they could never appear as any other color, possibly barring shades of blue. His nose is of moderate length and width, with a pointed tip that is quite upturned/concave. Pavel’s cheekbones are relatively prominent, and his mandible is of average size. His eyebrows are extremely low and blonde, seeming to almost blend in with his eyelids. Pavel wears a blue long-sleeved sweater-shirt checkered with white embroidery-like designs throughout the garment. He tends to prize such intricate designs on clothing, because it reminds him greatly of his homeland. His pants are, as a rule for himself, black, and he wears hard-wearing leather shoes coated in a special waterproof polymer. Pavel also wears a circular pendant passed down by his Belarusian ancestors since early medieval times. Spoiler: click to toggle Pavel’s weapon form is a magnificent Oakeshott Type XIIa longsword. In this form, Pavel measures 47 inches in length, and weighs 3 pounds 11 ounces. The length of his blade is 37 inches, and the handle plus crossguard plus pommel are 10 inches in length. He possesses a utilitarian-looking crossguard with extremely clean lines. His pommel is oval in shape, and has a trapezoidal peen block at the end. He has a wooden grip covered in black leather previously bound by cord. His very sharp blade is lenticular in cross-section, (if you cut the blade in half, and looked at the grain of the metal, you would see a lens shape made by the fuller and the edge transition when looking down upon it) rather wide, (a bit more than 2.3 inches wide, to be exact) and tapers to a usable point. Without a meister, Pavel transforms his lower arm into a shorter and somewhat less wide blade with a slightly smaller crossguard, at 28 inches in length and 2 inches in width. History Pavel was born in Hrodna, Belarus to a Belarusian father and a Polish mother. His father was unaware of any “weapon” or “meister” heritage in his side of the family, though his mother knew that she certainly had such heritage, but made sure to keep it a secret from her husband until Pavel was born. His mother, whose mother was also a weapon, feared that her husband would freak out if he learned of such heritage, for he was somewhat mentally unstable, and often responded to things in innapropriate ways. Pavel was the second of two sons to be born to the household, the first being a meister named Josif. Eventually, Pavel’s father would recover greatly from his mental issues, and this was taken into account by Pavel’s mother. Once Pavel was at the age of five, a playful fight with his brother (which, of course, was actually encouraged by Pavel’s mother) caused him to inadvertently activate his weapon form, which Josif managed to catch in his hands. Josif and Pavel knew at once that their souls were linked through something that they could not quite grasp, but was certainly there. Now, Josif was around eleven years of age at the time, so it was quite the perfect time for his parents to take him to a local 14th-15th century German longsword association to learn how to wield Pavel with frightening efficiency. Soon enough, by the time Pavel was at the age of ten, Josif had become a teenage prodigy with the longsword. Nevertheless, Pavel and his brother did not merely use skill with the longsword as their only means of offense and defense – on an Easter day, a sudden metal-based kishin attack on their hometown spurred Pavel’s inner ability, which sent out an abrupt diamagnetic pulse that knocked back the kishin, and also caused the power in their neighborhood to short out for several days. Josif initially had quite some trouble controlling this wavelength, as magnetic fields are naturally confounding to soul wavelength control, though through about three years of intense, painful training, the two of them could finally resonate properly when Pavel’s wavelength poured out. Pavel held his brother in the same regard as his own father – a loving, caring counterpart who stuck up for him in the worst of times. What he did not know was that his brother had underwent psychological trauma after he lost his mind due to an obsession over a girlfriend – this individual, after breaking up with Josif for a better-looking man, was brutally raped and killed by this person. Josif was not prepared for such a thing, and constantly mused over it every single day. His mental state continued to break down, which was also a genetic trait from his father’s side. After a second breakup, deep paranoia began to set in after the woman completely broke contact with him, and at the age of 22, he committed suicide by hanging himself with a thick piece of rope. Pavel was absolutely devastated by the death of his brother, losing his one best friend and mentor in life. His view of certain females was also heavily impacted by this, causing him to shy away from them often and distrust several of them. He had also lost the only one in the world he knew could resonate with him properly, as a peculiarity in his DNA sequence caused his wavelength to only accept the wavelength of his brother. Unable to rectify this problem himself, he faced the facts and tried looking for professional help. Pavel could not find anyone in the whole of Hrodna who were skilled in wavelength manipulation, and he used up all his immediate savings in less than a year travelling around Central Europe to find someone. Out of options, he turned to his mother for help, who informed Pavel that she had distant relatives who attended a school in America for teaching weapons and meisters, the “Death Weapon Meister Academy”. The Kravets household had become quite poor due to malignant economic situations in Belarus, and Pavel had to make do with the money accumulated by his dead brother. His mother greatly encouraged him to go off on his own, as he had already proven himself capable of traveling throughout Europe, though his father had some doubts about America - the things he had heard about the country from the Soviet era still lingered on in his mind. Nevertheless, Pavel was able to get a plane ticket to Nevada with part of his brother’s job earnings. At the age of 16, which was not even a year after his brother died, Pavel stepped into a world of individuals who exhibited similar peculiarities in their abilities, and rejoiced. He had learned English in school a long time ago, so he had no problems speaking to the people there, though his accent always came out. Pavel appreciated the classes that the DWMA offered, teaching him things about weapons and meisters that he never formally learned. He found that the students and faculty there had several of their own eccentricities, which he also appreciated. Through about two years of studying from books and from speaking to experts in soul wavelengths, Pavel realized that he needed someone who is capable of modifying their own wavelength to suit his, or resonate with a genetically modified wavelength. This person would also have to be willing to learn the longsword techniques that Pavel’s older brother mastered. Personality In the few years that he has tried to find a meister, Pavel has tried to appear quite outgoing to some folks who wish to try to resonate with him. In reality, it is nearly impossible for him to retain the confidence of his past when he was with his brother back in Belarus, but he still tries his best to combat this. Additionally, in his mind, he cannot stand being around people who he sees as imbeciles, especially certain females, due to what happened to his brother after trifling with them. Those females who Pavel deems to be “imbeciles” include “girly-girls” and untrustworthy partners. He saw those women that his brother was with as those things, and he deeply resents such individuals now. Pavel is willing to help competent people whenever they need it, as he learned from his older brother that lending a helping hand is a sure-fire way to contribute to the success of the world as a whole. Pavel is very happy whenever folks that he befriends are happy, and he enjoys it when people laugh. Some of his jokes and hobbies may seem odd, causing some people to consider him a form of “hipster” or “eccentric”. For instance, he will try to get people to enjoy sparring with him with blunted weapons, and then introduce them to the medieval German fight manual that he reads. Another way that he likes to make individuals happy is through his playing of the accordion – he learned how to play the instrument from his paternal grandfather, who used to play old folk songs for all sorts of people in the Hrodna community. He does not know how to play any really modern songs on the accordion, but he hopes that people will enjoy some of the folk songs that come out of the instrument. When he’s out with friends, Pavel enjoys traveling to new places and walking long distances (hiking, strolling, etc.). Pavel likes to get positive reactions out of people, and becomes quite unhappy when he receives a negative reaction from another person. Pavel also becomes extremely angry when people backstab him or are disloyal to him, which is a memento of what happened to his brother. He does not become like this that often, but when he does, he is reminded of his dead brother, and gets quite depressed at the same time. If this occurs, one additional source of unwinding is found by Pavel – metalworking. His father worked as a watchmaker and part-time blacksmith, so it was only natural for him to teach him his trade. Pavel is no expert at the trade, but he is able to make twisted iron bars and simple knives. He is a very movement-oriented individual, feeling much more comfortable standing rather than sitting. When in school, it is extremely hard for him to fall asleep or doze off, and he tries to stay attentive throughout a lesson. However, his disinclination to sitting down can cause him to be jittery and grumpy if he has to sit for too long. Pavel can be rather clumsy at times when there are far too many things occurring at once, and this is exaggerated after a long time of sitting down. In any case, Pavel tries to remain an intellectual young man, learning for the sake of learning and respecting his peers. Regarding the enemies of the DWMA, Pavel detests kishin eggs, as he recalls deadly attacks on his community by them. He sees such creatures as pests that must be exterminated to maintain order with the world. Pavel has never seen a witch, but from what he has learned about them, he views them as enigmatic dangers. The fact that they are females does make him a bit riled up mentally, but he cannot be sure as to his ultimate opinion of them unless he sees one. Abilities Technique Name: Half-Weapon Transformation Pavel transforms the lower portion of his right arm into a similar blade type to his full weapon form, (Oakeshott Type XII) albeit with a shorter, less wide blade and smaller crossguard. The blade measures 28 inches in length, and 2.06 inches in width. Technique Name: Full Weapon Transformation Pavel transforms into a Type XIIa longsword, with dimensions of 47 inches in length, a blade length of 37 inches, a blade width of 2.3 inches, and a weight of 3 pounds 11 ounces. Technique Name: Confounding Field – Onefold The simplest of Pavel’s transformed abilities. This allows his magnetic wavelength to propagate around a wide area, (ten meters wide, ten meters high, and dome-shaped against the ground, which means that the ground and air are affected by this ability) messing with the ability of weak weapons and meisters (novice-level wavelength control) to resonate. Meisters/weapons with an average level of control over soul wavelengths are somewhat impacted by this, though their resonances are not outright stopped – they are simply weakened. Those with greater control over their wavelengths (indivudals who have trained for years with their abilities) would only be slightly dizzied or not affected at all by this. This ability can be turned off and on, and only affects the meister using Pavel if they are very careless with wavelength control - a meister’s control over Pavel’s power is not tested greatly here, as this is a relatively simple form of his ability. However, a meister needs to at least have a good resonance rate with Pavel for it to work. This ability lasts for as long as a meister has energy to focus on resonating with Pavel, though it would certainly be unwise to use up all of one’s energy in doing so, and Pavel recommends that his meister limits the use of this ability to short, decisive bursts. Combat Style Spoiler: click to toggle Spoiler: click to toggle Pavel prefers whoever is using him to be skilled in the way of the longsword, so the way of his combat is three things at once – flowing, utilitarian, and decisive. He is on the offensive the same time he is on the defensive, and vice-versa. When not in his weapon form, he is a fairly strong fellow, with a body built more like that of a medieval person than a modern individual because of his dislike of sitting and his daily training with his half-weapon form. Alone, he is powerful enough to take down the average kishin egg with his sword combat, as well as do a great number to a gang of average humans. In fact, he has specific knowledge for fighting against a number of people from his fight manual. In his full weapon form and half-weapon form, Pavel is more a cutting/slashing sword rather than a thrusting one, and can deliver terribly powerful shearing blows to opponents when a meister uses him in the correct fashion. In addition to this, he is by no means a rapier or a sabre, but he can be wielded with very good fluidity and dexterity. Miscellaneous Information Pavel is a native speaker of both Belarusian and Polish, but he can understand Russian and Ukrainian pretty well, in addition to that. Due to his brother’s suicide by hanging, Pavel becomes obnoxiously afraid of ropes, and he will stubbornly refuse to go near or touch them. Strengths
Weaknesses
Roleplaying Example The steel felt like a wondrously forged work of art as much as it did a weapon, and for good reason. The blade shone greatly in the light, its clean-lined hilt furniture blending in with the immaculate finish to give it a utilitarian look. The edge could barely be seen, transitioning with the blade in a highly subtle manner. Pavel mused over this, his half-weapon form, under a tree, where he went whenever he needed to unwind and have his time alone, thinking to himself. Pavel had one eye open, the very dark pupil sitting oddly against his steel grey iris. He then picked up a small wooden buckler that he had made for himself, running his fingers of his left hand across the unsanded wooden surface. This was a simple affair, only a few small wooden planks riveted together. Yet, all was not well – a dark figure darted by Pavel’s peripherals, feasting on the soul of a freshly killed human. Its figure looked quite out of place within the serene forest, drooling and squirming around. It had rows of hook-like teeth, two long sabres for hands, and was covered in a wreath of its own saliva. A most grotesque one, indeed… This creature was a kishin, and it smelled something new – the fresh soul of a weapon. Oh, how its appetite rejoiced at this! The kishin clanked its sabres together, gnashed its teeth, and constantly drooled at the prospect of devouring this soul. Suddenly, with great speed, it rushed out from behind the thorny bush it was hiding behind, leaving a trail of saliva in its path. It seemed like a blur to the environment, running at great speed and flailing its arms around. Pavel picked up his little wooden buckler, and stood at the ready, mimicking a stance from a book he knew all too well. The dark, slimy creature lunged forward at him, in an attempt to impale him with its blades. Fall in between sword and shield. Pavel wound in with his half-weapon form, in-between the two sabres, and cleanly cut off the arms of the kishin with a “crooked cut”. Its arms fell to the ground in a bloody mess, spraying him with quite a bit of grime. The armless creature writhed in pain, screeching some otherworldly banshee-like howl as it tried to stay on its feet. Its stumbling and spraying of blood made Pavel’s job much harder, and he slipped in a pool of blood – his half-weapon form lashed out in the process, impaling the kishin through its skull and delivering the coup de grace. He wrenched the sword out of its skull, and dipped it into a running stream to clean off the grime. As he cleaned his half-weapon form, he fell into the stream, soaking all of his clothing, garnering a very loud Belarusian expletive from him. Pavel simply knew it was going to be a very long day, the misfortune of his clumsiness taking a toll on him. Edited by Dryhavich, Jul 10 2013, 08:32 PM.

Hey there, Dry! I'm Lammy, and I'll be your character moderator for your first character here at 42! Exciting, isn't it? You've done a pretty good job so far, but there are still some areas of concern that could use some moderation. And that's where I come in! My job is to help you make your character the best it can be without getting, well, overpowered. But I'm sure we won't have a problem with that here. So with that said, let's begin! Clothing and Description: Generally speaking, Weapons without a Meister to wield them don't transform into a different Weapon entirely; instead, they rely on Partial Weapon Transformations. This is when a Weapon transforms only a part of their body in order to fight, such as turning a limb into the blade of a sword, or a fist into the head of a mallet. History:
Personality: This section could use a bit of an expansion I think. Give us more details! First of all, what are some things that really make this character angry, happy, or perhaps incredibly sad? On that note, how frequently is he reminded of his dead brother? How well does he do in classes at DWMA? Is he intelligent and hard-working when it comes to school, or does he slack off and snooze through class? Furthermore, what sort of hobbies does he have other than sword fighting? DOES he have any hobbies outside of sword fighting? Also, what sort of women will he deem approachable and unapproachable. Are there specific traits that he tends to stray away from? Abilities: Hmm...I think you may have overdone yourself here. These are a lot of abilities! We'll probably have to get rid of some of the more unnessary ones. But first of all, Weapon Transformation needs to have its own Technique and Description. If you'd like Pavel to have a Partial Weapon Transformation as well, please make a Technique and Description for it; though some members opt out of this ability in order to make room for others. Decide which electromagnetic-based abilities you want to keep, and we'll work from there. Personally, I'd say the average amount of starting abilities is 2-3, including Weapon Transformations. So if you are wanting more electromagnetic powers, I would definitely recommend opting out of Partial Weapon Transformation. Combat Style: How strong would you say Pavel's defenses and physical strength are in both human and Weapon form? Miscellaneous Information: All of this sounds like it would fit better in Personality! Expand on his accordion skills, his reading hobbies, like of odd things, etc; within that section. Miscellaneous Information is usually reserved for stuff you can't decide where to put. Strengths and Weaknesses: Be sure to mention his clumsiness in Personality, but my only real concern here is the second weakness listed...just to clarify, does this mean Pavel's electromagnetic abilities have the possibility to mess up the Soul Resonance of another ally? I'm a bit confused. Roleplay Sample: Give the Rules a second or third look over and I'm sure you'll understand what this section is missing~ Other than that, this is a very good start, Dry! Good job! Be sure to report back to me when all changes have been made. Edited by Lammy, Jun 27 2013, 05:21 AM.

Lammy, Thank you for your excellent and expansive critique. That certainly gives me the points I need to polish a rough-around-the-edges OC. I shall spend a few days or so doing various modifications. -Dryhavich |

Hey again, Pavel! It's time for another round of modding done by your's truly! You've made a lot of improvements so far, but there's still work to be done. Personality: For clarification's sake, could you perhaps break this section up into a few parts? Add some spaces! This makes it much easier to read. But besides that, what is Pavel's opinion on Kishin Eggs and Witches: the enemies of the DWMA? Does he have any issues with Witches in particular, considering they're all female? Other than that, I really love the new length of this section. Abilities: As it stands right now you have 4 abilities listed, when the most a starting Shibusen character can have is 3. But with that said, we're going to need more details to help us decide if we'll let you have all four, or if we need to get rid of one of them. For the Partial Transformation, a shorter blade might be nice; since the blade is over three feet long, even by an inch it gives the Transformation a lot of range, and as it stops at the elbow joint, maneuverability is also increased. It might be better if the entire arm turned into a blade. While a Partial Transformation may give an edge in combat, it's generally not incredibly practical; not until the Weapon reaches Death Scythe levels. So again, we recommend that the Partial Transformation either involve an entire arm transforming, or a shorter blade at the elbow joint. Though we suppose you could come up with something else as well. Confounding Field could use a lot more clarification...and we have a lot of questions.
There are also a few questions we have about The Field's Great Injustice.
In short, what are the limits of this ability, and for how long can it remain active? How long before he can perform it again afterwards? Combat Style: How strong is Pavel in solo combat? Is he strong enough to take on the average Kishin Egg (such as Jack the Ripper, from Episode 1 of the anime) all by himself? Does he have difficulty taking on a whole gang of average humans? Provide some sort of scale; a description as to how strong the character is. I think that about covers it. We're well on our way to getting this character accepted, so please keep up the good work! |

Alright, I edited it again. ![]() I decided to leave out The Field's Great Injustice from Pavel's starting-out abilities because I now see it as something that is not suitable for a meister who just resonated with Pavel. That leaves me with three starting-out abilities: Half-Weapon Transformation, Full Weapon Transformation, and Confounding Field: Onefold. |
