Character Name: Alastor Maturin Age: 17 Gender: Male Type: Weapon Partnered? No Image: N/A Clothing and description: Alastor is average height (around 5'7"), with broad shoulders and big hands. His hair is shaggy and brown, usually hanging to around eyebrow length. Bright green eyes peek out from beneath his bangs, and are usually crinkled in a smirk. He's typically wearing green somewhere, whether it's his socks, his shirt, whatever. His jacket is white, with blue pinstripes down the arms. Black pants are his usual choice, but he's been seen in dark green cargo shorts as well. Typically, his jacket never changes, to the point where he's seen wearing it in all weather - blazing sun, blizzard, hurricane, a nice breezy day, doesn't matter wore a jacket. The rest of his outfit varies from day to day, but his jacket is ALWAYS a part of it. His weapon form is a scythe, and he considers himself among the elite in Weapons. The handle and blade are a pearly, off-white color. There's no marked area for a grip, but where the blade is fixed to the handle there is a spiral design, as though the head of the scythe had been twisted under high heat before having the blade affixed (Speaking as though the blade wasn't a part of the handle, of course). History: Born into a family known for its propensity for having Weapons in the family line, Alastor grew up fully aware that he was expected to become a Weapon, and spent most of his childhood researching his family tree and the various Weapons within. He quickly discovered that most of them were Scythes, although there were a few others mixed in. He grew up under the care of Rachel, a local girl who did her best to take care of an ornery little bugger like Alastor. His parents did their best to be home at important events (like his birthdays, or when he shattered all of the bones in his right arm), but his father being a Weapon for a 2-star Meister meant that he was often away on semi-important missions, and his mother ran a restaurant in Death City, meaning Alastor was more often than not alone in his parents' rural house. At age 12, he discovered his babysitter, who was no longer employed due to his newfound ability to take care of himself, was a Meister. He sought out Rachel, and did his best to convince her to use her Soul Perception to see if he was ever going to become a Weapon. After explaining to him that her ability wouldn't be able to discern information like that, he stormed off in a rage and tried to live on his own for a few weeks. His father, convinced that his son would either discover the Weapon within and come back of his own will, refused to make any effort to find his son. As the weeks drug on, his mother grew increasingly more and more worried, eventually asking his father's Meister to search for Alastor in the woods near their home. After only an hour of searching, he found Alastor meditating in a small glade; upon his visitor's approach, Alastor changed his arm into a scythe blade and whirled to face his attacker. Realizing his mistake, he reverted back into his fully human form, and returned home. Upon questioning, his parents discovered that he'd survived by hunting small rabbits, and only discovered his Weapon Form when approached by a territorial bear. He has also decided that green, the color of the grass and leaves in the glade where he was found, must in fact be his lucky color. His superiority complex meant he felt no need to enroll in Shibusen, his father overseeing his training seemed more than enough. The years passed, and since that day he has honed his skills, to the point where extending a blade from his forearm is no trouble at all. He began working on a very aggressive, mobile battle style, quickly learning to take advantage of his large hands for quick jabs and hooks that hurt more than they normally would. Once his father began to teach him to extend his blade from his forearm, this style only became more aggressive as he realized its effectiveness. His father came home on his 16th birthday, and told him that his training would no longer suffice, that it was time for him to go to Shibusen and partner with a Meister. Taking his father's words very seriously, he put together an application and enrolled for next year. After a year, the best thing anyone can say is that he's passing. He tends only to study new, offensive techniques that his teachers mention or his father tells him about in their haphazard contact through letters, but manages to scrape decent grades on tests. His skills haven't grown as much as he'd hoped, but after a year with no partner, he's not really all that surprised. Personality: A rather sarcastic individual, Alastor is known for his vicious tongue, but that he does this at everyone's expense, even occasionally his own. He suffers from a severe superiority complex, in regards to himself compared to other Weapons. He's usually pretty quiet about how much better he thinks he is over other Weapons, but if he hears someone bragging he feels the need to "bring them down to earth" as quickly as possible. More often than not, this results in a fight, but he's not particularly worried about the consequences of his actions. He is, after all, better than they are. His sarcastic nature extends even to fights, often belittling his opponent mid-fight if he feels it's worth the effort. His superiority complex doesn't extend to anyone else, however, as odd as that may sound. He holds Meisters above the rest, for after all, they wield Weapons, in all of their glory, and respects them more than most. He listens intently to these respected individuals, very rarely being his usual sarcastic self. All in all, Alastor does his best to get along with his fellow students, barring those Weapons who try to claim superiority over him. Alastor has a particular liking for the color green, considering it his lucky color, and refuses to leave the house without wearing at least on article of green clothing. This isn't very well known, but is something he does religiously. His ultimate goal is to become a DeathScythe, proving his superiority and bringing honor to his family. He manages well enough in school, considering he only takes time to study on new offensive fighting techniques, and nothing else. He's not a genius, but he has enough knowledge from his years of training to understand the basics of everything else, allowing him to at least pass tests he hasn't studied for. He's not a stellar student, nor does he really have the book-smarts to become one, but it's clear to most that he's capable of more than what he's willing to give. Abilities: Technique Name: Weapon Form: Scythe Effects/Description: Alastor transforms into a large, pearly-off-white scythe, about 6 feet in length. The handle has a slight-S shape The blade extends just over 2 and a half feet outward, a slight hamon visible in the light. This is his full weapon form, and he considers it to be superior to all other weapons and their forms (with the exclusion of DeathScythes, but he intends to become greater than they are someday, as well) Technique Name: Partial Shift: Scythe Blade Effects/Description: Alastor's arm changes into his scythe blade, albeit slightly shorter (approx. 4-6 inches shorter). Combat Style: On his own, Alastor is a highly aggressive opponent. He likes to go in quickly and get things done as quickly as possible. He doesn't worry about his opponent's strengths and weaknesses, simply reacting to any change or unexpected move as best he can. With a Meister, he prefers to simply let his partner do what they do best, only speaking up when a technique they'd worked on could prove extremely effective. Miscellaneous Information: Alastor refuses to admit that any opponent is better than him, and this means he's constantly getting into sticky situations. Strengths:
Weaknesses:
Roleplay Sample: Sitting in class, Alastor felt extremely bored. A Weapon of his caliber, just hanging around listening to techniques he either already knew or didn't have a use for? A complete waste. Busy doodling a scaled version of DWMA on the inside cover of his notebook, he didn't even notice when the bell rang for class to be dismissed. As he was pushed into by another student trying to get past him, Alastor looked up and realized class was *finally* over. Closing his book, he was surprised to hear his name called by the teacher. Sighing, he jumped down to where the teacher was standing, and looked up at the large man. "Is there something wrong, sir?" He did his best to keep the venom from his tone, but he really would prefer not to have another conversation about why he was getting into so many fights, and whether or not he'd ever find a Meister. "It's about all of the fights you're getting into. We talked about this a few days ago, and I get word that you'd gotten into another fight while I was at lunch. Don't you think you're wasting your time and energy?" Alastor wrinkled his nose, and looked over his shoulder at his last opponent's seat. "Nah. It's worth it. When they're talking about how they must be better because they found a Meister and I didn't, it infuriates me. Clearly I'm the better Weapon, and yet because they found someone with a wavelength that syncs well with theirs, they think they're superior? No, that's not how it is. If that means I have to beat them without a Meister to prove them wrong, then so be it." As the last few words left his mouth, he focused once again on his teacher, his eyes narrowing in irritation just *thinking* about how much that insignificant fool bothered him earlier. His teacher was the one who sighed this time, putting his hand on his pupil's shoulder as he did so. "I understand where you're coming from, but you have to ignore them. Once you're partnered with a Meister, you'll be able to prove to all of them how much better you may be - by becoming a DeathScythe. That is your ultimate goal, right?" Alastor nodded, knowing better than to give a sarcastic answer here. "Then I'd suggest after this fight, that you start actively searching for a Meister. Guess I'm bringing my lunch along today... how do you manage to win these fights, anyway?" Alastor laughed a little, before replying. "They expect me to be worried about their Soul Resonance techniques, or any abilities the Meister has that helps them to beat me. I just don't worry about that and focus on winning." Nodding slowly, his teacher replied, "Well, I hope it works for you today. I don't pick sides, but I always liked the underdog. That's just the kind of man I was." Standing across from his opponent, a 1-star Meister wielding some atrocity of a Weapon (some form of short sword), Alastor sneered. "So, how quickly do you want me to defeat you? I mean, I could sure use some time to myself during lunch break, but if you want me to drag this out, I can." Extending his scythe blade from his forearm, he settled into his combat stance. Hi there, Sax! My name's Lammy, and I'll be your character moderator this evening! First of all, I'd like to personally welcome you to the site. I hope you're enjoying yourself! Er, at least as much as someone can enjoy themselves in only a couple of days... Regardless, it's time to begin the first round of the character modding process! You've done a good job so far, but I think there's just a bit more work to be done before we can allow this character to be accepted. Clothing and description: Perhaps explain more of Alastor's fashion sense...does he comedically wear the same outfit all the time, or does he change it up from time to time? If so, does he prefer more stylish clothes, more classy clothes? Go into as much depth as you feel, as long as you clarify whether or not he DOES wear the same outfit all the time. Secondly, go into a wee bit more depth as to how the scythe looks...although you explained its length, what about its handle? Is there a grip? Minor, subtle things like this help see the Weapon clearer in the reader's mind. History:
Personality: Be sure to include how well he has done interacting with his classmates (does he fight with them or get along fine? Does he socialize, or isolate himself from them?) and how well (or not so well) has he been doing in his classes? Is he very intelligent when it comes to his academics, or lacking? Combat Style, Strengths, and Weaknesses: I'm a bit worried about just onething when it comes to your Combat Style, as well as his Strengths and Weaknesses...while you say he doesn't worry about opponent's strengths and weaknesses out of Weapon Form, you say that he does tend to point them out while in the arms of a Meister...and then in Weaknesses, you say that he's not great at understanding these strengths and weaknesses to begin with. These inconsistencies are a bit confusing... Does he point out what he thinks are weaknesses and the like regardless of not being able to detect them very well? What do you mean by this exactly? Finally, your RP sample is fine; however, it is missing a couple of things... First of all, it would be nice if you could perhaps start new paragraphs after each piece of dialogue, as well as use different text colors depending on whom is speaking. A lot of our RPers do this for clarification, but you don't have to. It just makes it a tad easier for your fellow RPers to read. Second of all, could you please take a closer look at our Rules and such? You're missing a very important tidbit in the RP sample that proves you've read them~ PM me or post a message here when you've completed these modifications, and our second round of modding will begin! Until next time. |

After a second look at the character, I'm happy to announce that Alastor is officially accepted! These changes are a vast improvement to the previous submission, as I feel they really give the character a more finely-tuned feel. Great job; and good luck on making him a Death Scythe~! |
