Taunting

Taunting itself is fine; bullying is not. The problem is where to draw the distinction. Obviously among friends it would just be laughed off but sometimes it's not so simple. I think the question should only really arise if someone is offended by being taunted and asks the other person not to do it. I think that's a perfectly legitimate wish to grant and if you don't stop, then you're bullying.

I agree with what pretty much everyone else has said. If it's all in good fun between friends, fine. If you're doing it to be a dick, not cool.

I know it's sometimes difficult to tell as intention isn't something easily conveyed in this situation.

Personally, I don't like being taunted. I already feel like I'm about the worst player in any given game, so if I'm taunted I feel like it's adding insult to injury. However, if I manage to kill someone like Pine Beetle or Legion who dominate me all day, every day I doubt they'd be upset if I taunted them.

I think an occasional taunt is not the bad, but to taunt after nearly every kill to me is a dick move, and equates to farting at the dinner table (beautiful analogy Blue :P). You can do it... but its a bit of a scummy thing to do.

If you have a good relationship with the person your taunting, than that is a whole different matter. All in all I don't do it, once in awhile I will by accident, but its extremely rare and I assure you an accident lol. I just don't feel the need to mess with the guy that I just killed, and as a Spy I find its best to try and keep the heat off me as I get enough of it already. I can see it now, I taunt the wrong guy, and now hes pyro the rest of the match with the sole purpose of looking for me and nothing more... Yeah, I have get enough of that with Inky and Ninja :P.

It doesn't bother me. If its a known troller who does it (quite a few on JYD, you all know who they are!), it's still a bit of a "meh whatever" or "challange accepted >;)". I don't fuel the fire. Some taunts turn into interesting kill cams too that get a good chuckle out of me. I do like the thumbs up "semi taunt" from voice commands. Those tend to turn into great kill cams!

On its own taunting shouldn't be a bannable offense. I do see taunting as a troll (read "dick") move. Like others have stated, it's one thing for two friends to taunt each other and quite another for a random player no one knows. I'll give the random player the benefit of the doubt and explain that taunting is considered rude on our server and please don't waste your time. After that point I consider it very offensive to see them taunting again.

The issue here is most people come from random servers where there really isn't a sense of community. Without the community there aren't any set rules.. spawn camping and taunting are rampant. I can see the nomadic players point of view when they join our server and probably assumed we're all just butthurt to be taunted. But this is OUR community that WE built. Somewhere in the building process we collectively decided that we prefer to not be taunted or spawn camped.

There are home owners who prefer to have house guests take their shoes off at the door. You can't argue that you want to keep your shoes on.. it's not your house.
