Welcome to the dark side of Stormtroopers, Sage! I have to admit when I got mine, I just wanted to look different than the anonymous crowd of TKs out there... Then troopers in my Garrison thought I looked positively evil in the shiny black armor. I guess that's what makes us a bit special. It takes someone willing to be a bit different from the normal crowd to become a TX, but I think you'll like it in the end. |

Hello all, Just ordered my first suit of TK/TD armor. Decided to be a bit different and get the black Stealth trooper. Am haveing some problems though finding the boots to go with it. The link listed with the requirments for joining the detachment only has 1 size left, and they won't fit me. Has anyone else found a good quality pair of boots to go with this suit and still be cannon? Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated. CJ |

There's another brand of Sketchers, called Dominator, I believe. They'd be very passable, IMHO. Also, folks have mentioned a brand at Wal-Mart that is relatively cheap. Just keep in mind they must be over the calf, black zip-up boots. Caboots also makes their in black, but are overpriced (IMHO). Also EastCoastCostumes offers a budget set, but I wouldn't recommend them for regular trooping. But at $35, the price is right. |

I believe by the current 501st costuming standards, that Stealth Trooper would be treated the same as custom Mandalorians. But I will get you an official ruling from Chu-Lin (Legion Membership Officer). The only thing I'd consider upgrading at some point would be the shoes (go from laced to zip-up). But I wouldn't stop you from trooping in it. Personally, I like the colors and would be proud to troop with you any day. Kev |

Those aren't laced. Actually they are biker boots which have velcro up the sides and velcro straps that tighten on the sides. They look pretty cool and I think approriately sci-fi. |

Someone had commented that Sci-Fi doesn't mean Star Wars (and I inadvertantly removed the post by accident). Stealth troopers are pretty well defined in EU comics and in the database, so the aim is to get the look as close as you can to what we've seen. I am still awaiting an official ruling by the LMO on this. |

sorry about that Kev.. i had posted that and didnt realize i wasnt signed in.. didnt know you could do that! anyways yeah i think we need to be careful to adhere to the standards we set here. Part of the costume requirement IMHO should be that the boots be as close to the original look of the stormtrooper as possible without straying too much. I realize we have some color issues and stuff like that but the armor itself is pretty much a standard and i think the boot should be too for that reason. I know its hard to find boots for the spec ops that match the white trooper boot, i have had trouble myself. I started with charol boots that had smooth soles.. did not work. Tried to get a treaded sole, but couldnt get the same ones.. tried about 4 different boots before i found some that did work. and ended up saving a ton of $$ in the process. sorry about that wayward post.. |

No prob. The board has gotten a strange post before and I've just killed them before.
Here's the deal (to the best that's been explained to me at the Legion level)... A costume does NOT qualify for 501st Legion membership unless it is something that is seen to exist either on screen or in print. But you are more than welcome to wear it at 501st non-canon events (same goes with custom mandolorians, femtroopers, etc.). From the looks of your picture, all you'd have to do is change out the boots to qualify for membership. Eric is a good case study as a Stealth Sandtrooper - his costume is awesome and there's no logical reason why they wouldn't exist - heck, after seeing his, I want to do one! But because he originally submitted pics as a TX then customized his costume, he's covered - number and all. You could do the same, as a lot of folks love the paint scheme of your costume too. My advice would be borrow or buy some close-to-accurate boots, take pics as a TX (paint is ok), then resubmit to the Garrison of your choice. |

I am already a member as TK-5972, this would be my second costume. If the boots are the stumbling block, I can fix that. I just like those boots and I was happy I could find a use for them. Also my GML is also checking in on this for me. You said that the Stealth Troopers are well documented in the EU Comics and there is a database. Can I get a link to that database for someone? |

Here you go... First appeared in the 1979 daily newspaper comic strips and then popularized by the Dark Horse comic books as Carnor Jax's private army... http://www.starwars.com/databank/organizat...pers/index.html |

Well, I am 3/4 of the way done on my TX costume. Question for you all though. The decals that came with my armor are all black, doesn't show up at all on the armor. I have done the frown(after cutting it out) in silver, the rank pieces on the ear covers in silver. I put on the dome decals, and did the cheek is silver, but how have you all done the O2 cannisters vents? I am not a good enough painter to try and free hand them in silver or anything else. Did most of you just leave them off? Anyhelp would be appreciated. Also what was everyones opinion of the buttons? Leave them black, Paint them? leave them off? just wondering. CJ |

I put the tube stripes on mine, but left the buttons off the ab-plate. They're hard to keep on from what I hear anyways. The most time was spent padding and installing a harness system. Pretty much my TX looks right out of the box except for the gunmetal silver frown, but others have done an awesome job custom painting theirs. |

if you are talking about the helmet vents on the "jaw" i did those in an experimental fashion. i applied the decals for them, covered the whole jaw in a thick layer of rubber cement, then taped off the rest of the helmet. I took an exacto and scribed out the decal portion removing the decals and leaving the rest of the rubber cement in place as a mask for painting. Then i used a spaycan to paint in the "holes" left in the cement where the decals were. After it dried i scribed the painted portion once more and removed the cement. It worked pretty well. And the cement can be easily rubbed off taking the overshoot paint with it. I have pics of the helmet in the stealth trooper thread somewhere.. mine is blue trimmed and looks great. let me know if u have more questions! |
