I notice that the lower-left circle is blank. Would it not be good to place your Garrison symbol in that spot rather than leave it blank?

Yes, that is the plan. :D I just don't have a Midsouth patch at the moment to add. ;)

The idea is a flow effect.

Legion --- to the Detachment (Spec Ops) --- last would be the Garrison you are with.

Oh, and I do plan to take the shadow off around the top Legion circle. It looks like it hovers to much over the picture.

Hey guys,
Hope I'm not chiming in too late here but I'd definitely be interested in getting my own card as well as a set of all the other TXs!
We helped with crowd control at the Balloon Fiesta when the Vader balloon was in town, and the kids were asking for cards left and right. So please count me in and I'll make sure to check back here more often. Thanks!

tx5225, you've got the perfect timing!

We'll have some progress in a week or two, and with slight knowledge of photoshop and some cardstock to print on, you may even be able to make some of your own!

---

As far as my design goes, I'll be able to upload a new version in the next two days. I've just been swamped at work and at home with freelance stuffs trying to load up on income before the holidays.

:D

Something I threw together last night. I deliberately left out a border for this one, although I could easily add a small trim. I actually like the idea of not using a border like the existing 501st cards, instead doing something completely different.

good news!! I just found out that we have a (really big) supply of cardstock here at work and I'll be doing test prints of the card I designed..printed front and back on an epson stylus photo printer...around 8cards per sheet of 8.5x11

The printer is mine, situated beneath my desk so I don't feel too guilty doing this at work

Will post pics as soon as I get some worthy of showing!

Okay it's been a while but I just had a chance to play with the card idea again. I went in a different direction this time. Went more simple no lighing or crazy circle portals. I wanted to go "basic" just to see what it would look like. Make this simple and easy to put together. Here is what I have come up with! :D

Posted Image

This is just a pic placed into an open area of the card.

Posted Image

The next I cut myself out of the pic and pasted the image to the background of the card. A little more work but I like the feel it has. I want to try a card with a Star Wars image background and then paste my image over it. (Something like the 501st did) The only thing I want to do is NOT have a Shadow Trooper on a Black image. I know we are Spe Ops and we attack at night, but it is so hard to see the costume. I really want to make a card that allows people to see are great works of art (armor). ;) :D

I will try to find a few images of the inside of the Death Star to use. I'll see what I can find.

The other little things I am trying to work out is the logos. Still trying to find a decent Midsouth Garrison image. I have a 12" patch coming but it won't be here for a few more weeks.

Okay know the back. I really like this....

Posted Image

I went with a bit more flash for the head shot, but I think it works.

Posted Image

On this everything is the same but in the bare spot by the head shot I thought the garrison logo again would work.

Let me know what you guys think. Any thing that needs to be changed? All ideas a welcomed. I'm just having fun creating these! :D :D :D :D

Okay after looking at the frame for the head shot (I did for the back of the card) I thought it might look good on the front too. So I tried it! ;) :D

It looks real good. I want to try to find that Death Star hally image and put it in the background. Make look a bit like a hologram behind me. Something like I'm come out of the hologram.

Still trying to figure out how to place the 501st, Spe Ops, Garrison logos. I like the Detachment name on the left. Makes it feel like it's are card. (Sorry, thinking while typing. )

Over all this one is high on my list to make for myself. Really digging this one!!!!

UPDATE...

Okay I found a background of the Death Star Hallway and added it. I also went with a draker gray and changed the color of the Spe Ops font. Looks MUCH better.

Does anyone know how I can get better images of the Det. and Garrison logo? The ones I have been using are patches I took pictures of. The 501st logo looks okay but any help on that would be great.

I have been looking at the links that was posted a few pages back at the card printing services. I might do a small run of 16 for myself just to see how everthing looks, once I get everything fixed. :D :D

I have really been having fun with the card idea. I think I have my final design.

After many different tries at this I think this is the best. (for me)

FRONT

Posted Image

I created a longer window to add the text and logos to. I then changes the text on the side to make it more readable. I am VERY happy with the front. Still have a few things to touch up, some of the rust around the text needs to be cleaned up.

BACK

Posted Image

Nothing much has changed here. Just added a place for a number incase this became something bigger. The back is simply and straight to the point. Might have to make the text a bit smaller, but for now this will do. :D

Once again, any imput would be great!!!! :D I still hope to find some better logos and I am still in the search for more backgrounds. I am still learning my way around Photoshop and just so you know I did this with Elements! (Still working my way around "real" Photoshop, but I'm learning! :D )

Looking good bro! But you might want to change "trainning" to "training". :D

I've been working on a card now for about a month. I love to create so this has been a GREAT time for me. After looking over my lastest desgin it still didn't feel just right. Here is what I saw....

Posted Image

Overall, not bad but still could have been better. This week I found a few old baseball cards I had from a few years ago. I looked at the desgins and started rethinking on how to make this work.

Now, this card idea was started out on trying to find a card desgin for the detachment. Seeing what could be created. (No matter what I plan to make a few cards for myself for sure! :D B) ) But during this process I began to think about the legion and the other detachments. The idea cross my mind, "what if" the legion card had something a bit different for each detachment. So if someone what to collect just the Spec Ops or the Blizzard Force. Setup the set to form "subsets" like if you want to collect your favorite baseball team. Your set would have a uniformed look to it but still look good if you what the whole legion set.

Like I have said I have been doing this for fun and to help learn a little more about Photoshop so I don't won't to step on any toes with this. :D

Anyway, here is what I believe will be my FINAL desgin.

Posted Image

I still need to work on the bottom logos. (Still need better pics of ALL the logos these look to fuzzy.) But for the most part this will be my card.

I am still working on the back a little. Most of the back will be the same but I want to add a place for an Enlist Date.

The two things that change (beside the background) for each detachment would be the red (color) bar to the left and the of course det. logo.

Here are some examples. Sorry about the figure pics. Needed something to go by when I was working on them.  :D
