Well, canvas underbelts are screen-accurate for white Stormtroopers, so it stands to reason that they'd be good for black as well. And it's easy enough to get white or natural canvas and dye it in your washing machine. ;)

I thought about that but i dont know if it would be black or a shade or two off. Didnt want to by re-dying forever and still not get a good result. Was just curious if anybody has ever seen actual black canvas in thier travels. The fabric stores around me are kinda lacking in this department.

I'll take a look. But if you use enough dye when dyeing the first time, and set it properly, it will be a nice solid black, and won't fade.

The only problem I see with canvas is to achieve the glossy look, I don't think it would be possible.

Well, the soft parts of the Shadow Scout are non-shiny, too, so... *shrug*

Im not to worried about it having any sort of gloss or sheen to it since the TK belt is a dull white to off white. I like the glossy black ABS belt as well just figured I would give it a try. This is what happens when the camera goes down. Idle hands.

Well, I'm not posting much at the Sith Lords or MEPD boards. ;) What can I say, I'm active in the 501st, and particularly for the Detachments I'm working on costumes with/for.

Make sure you read up on dying though and when you get your dye read the bottle/packet and follow it to the crossed T to get the right results! I haven't done canvas but with cotton it's very easy to mess up so you just gotta read and follow carefully ;)

Follow directions? :P Directions are for nerds!! Oh wait I am building a Star Wars costume. Tripped up by my own clever wit. I'm hoping to find some black 12.5 oz just so I dont have to go down the dye road. I can find it on line in black now I just need to see if I can dig up a local source first. Save me some shipping.

avoiding shipping is always a good thing (tries not to think about shipping costs on armor and goodies)

For dying canvas, fabric paint might be better than traditional RIT dye... just an idea.

Acid dye for wool and other natural fibers is better than RIT. RIT has it's place, but I know dyeing. Since it's black, one can afford to oversoak the fabric to make sure it's as black as it can get. :)
