Hello to all. My name is Zach and I'm a pending member of the 501st Mississippi Garrison. This is an awesome detachment and it has answered a lot of my questions already. I'm putting together a Blackhole/Shadow Stormtrooper. I've read that the lenses are acceptable in black, silver, green, and so on. Which is the acurate color for Blackhole Troopers? Another thing that I've not been able to find a solid source on. Is the center chin piece, between the aerators, supposed to be black or silver? I've seen both in my search for pics. Some current 501st members have it silver, but it seems to be matte black in pics of replica helmets. I just want to know whats cannon. If anyone could clear this up for me I would be greatful. I'm trying hurry up and get my TX together to get some pics sent and my membership approved. So close to done.....just want to get it right. Thanks.

Lenses color?
OK, if you go for the original reference (comics) dark lenses are the way to go, you should also have black shin and black tubes stripes.
If you like the collectibles approach, (Gentle Giant, Hasbro, Master Replicas) Silver will be your choice (with silver chin and black or blue tube stripes.

Welcome Zach!

This is from the current standard:
Quote:

- Silver, battleship grey (exact match of helmet stickers), or black helmet frown. Cheek tube stripes may only be black or very dark navy blue. Crown indents may be battleship grey or black. Earcap vertical stripes may be black, grey, or dark navy blue
- Opaque flat or bubbled helmet lenses, colored either black, smoke, silver, or dark green. A spectator must not be able to see your eyes through the helmet when worn.

As far as the "chin" piece, I've only recently seen that done on some of the collectibles, but since we don't really regard "toys" as a viable reference I'd stick with the black one that comes with your armor kit. ;)

A silver or grey chin has only been seen on the toys - I haven't seen any references to it in the comics and it's not accepted at this time, so I'd keep it black.

Hey guys. Thanks a lot for solving my great mystery. Does anyone have any tips on: general voice box resource/installation, etc., installing lenses, where to find cheap and accurate boots, drilling and filing vent hole between the teeth....... and any other magical secrets you think may be of some help. I'm moving next month so there will probably be a gap in my activity online. I want to get done with this project before the move so I don't have to wait until I'm unpacked to finish. Thanks again.

A lot of guys put their amps in their chestplate or on their belt. As for the teeth, just use a Dremel with a tiny drill bit and drill out the teeth (following the contours of the dimples), then back with 2 layers of black screen on the inside (glue it down with a hot glue gun). For the lenses, from the inside of the helm, just lay the lens down over the eye socket and hotglue around the edges (dripping down off the lens onto the helmet interior) and allow it to dry.

I'll post some pics for you in the morning that will show the helmet mods.
