I've built an E-11 and a heavy blaster. both were from online sources but the Heavy Blaster is too, well, Heavy. Any ideas for materials to build the bad boy without all the weight? I need to build another for a friend but want to cut down it's weight because it sucks to carry.![]() I used cardboard tubes to cut some weight versus a pvc pipe. soft dry pine for the body and the oak armrest of a discarded rocking chair for the butt stock. the body detailing was done with Linoleum tile (which bends, cuts, glues and files AMAZING by the way.) I also used some Ikea furniture parts for the metal details. It is really well balanced for a 12 pound beast. But I'd like it to be less than 10. ![]() I have all the same materials and feel that it the body that is the problem. Pine is pretty light unless it's wet. I planned to coat it in resin to seal it for real trooping but I'm afraid to even try to take it with me anywhere. I'm kinda a pansy when it comes to carrying things all day. ![]() Other question. Do these ammo pouches pass the scrutiny of the Stealth CRL?

Just read the possible CRL. SO must I ditch my cannister or is it okay for a guy with a big gun to throw a grenade from time to time? |

The CRL spec is roughly based upon the TD specs. I need to find a visual reference of a TX Heavy Weapons trooper with the canister to approve it, but I suppose it would be ok, because we didn't drop the dropboxes like they did. The spec is still in flux. I'd say you could wear it until the spec says you can't, but even then, you'd be grandfathered in because the specs aren't approved by the Legion yet. And the pouches look great - just like mine. The only issue with cardboard in blasters is that it won't last trooping. All PVC piping is recommended, but it's your blaster and it looks great to me. You might want to fill the tube with that expanding insulation foam for rigidity.Kev Edited by COS_Vader, Jul 20 2008, 11:26 PM.

I'll do the foam definetly. I found the vendor for star wars paintball skins here. So I may get that after and give this fat boy to my friend. |

Cushman has a poor quality reputation on the Legion boards - their weapons look much better in their pics than they really look up close. I have not seen one up close, so I can't recommend them yet. |

Id say yours looks light years ahead of most. Give yourself a pat on the back you did a really nice job on it. I have to agree with Kev on the Cushman. |

New blaster this week. I started on tuesday and finished last night.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Now this is entirely a pvc with all extras (except the range cylinders) built from scratch. the m19 scope is rolled styrenewith a HEAVY coat of black ABS glue over it to hide the trim, I made the scope reticule in illustrator from a ItchyNutsDesign reference pic. The counter is from the Black ABS (of a broken belt section) cut and glued with styrene trim to look like the Hengstler. The counter's socket was made from 3 plastic wall anchors glued together. the T-Track is from a partition wall used in our office(I hope it doesn't fall over now). The barrel and clip are wood, the barrel end is Black ABS (also from the belt). The magazine port is styrene glued over a HP ink cartridge (for giggles). The shoulder stock is styrene cut and folded from the Blaster Builders Club Templates. Again I did not build in a trigger mechanism. I'll do it later when I get a reliable source for the hand grips. Anyway this one wieghs in at 35 ounces. Woo Hoo! |
