It seems clear that the Stealth Trooper is required to have black ab buttons. I have the correct size (7/16") from doing my TK. My Question is this should they be glossy or matte? |

Mine are glossy, but I'm not sure that is a area they'll be too picky on. -iz |

I was just wondering if matte black ab buttons might provide a nice contrast against the glossy armor. My helmet is all matte black indents/vocoder with silver mouth. I am going to paint my thermal detonator base matte black and leave the caps and control piece glossy. The ab buttons that came with my FX kit look like pre-painted snap tops. They are 5/8" in diameter. So I am using tandy screw posts that have the recommended 7/16" diameter. |

They are supposed to be glossy per the TK standards. I know it might look cool in matte, but the 501st LMO is a stickler for standards and you may not be approved if you deviate from it. |

I looked on whitearmor.net and on this forum could not find anywhere that it states that ab buttons must be glossy. For TX it must be black. It does say for every costume that the buttons must be 7/16" diameter. I have seen a lot of pictures on here with troopers having the FX buttons that are 5/8". That is 3/16" too big. I will go glossy with the buttons to avoid controversy but it would be nice to have it defined. Edited by TK6294, Jan 26 2010, 12:37 AM.

It actually says: "Buttons are approximately 7/16" in diameter." That leaves some room for the larger buttons, while stating the ideal troopers should be aiming for. If you want to try it in matte blac, go ahead and say that it hasn't been defined and glossy. They'll either allow it or say you have to change them and reapply. The only thing you'll be out is membership time, but that shouldn't keep you from trooping with any squad or garrison. -iz |

No worries on the approval Bro, I already have an approved TK. Thank you for the input. I really do appreciated it. I will be using the buttons with screw posts so i can take them out and repaint at will. I might do two sets, take pictures of both, and post on here for input. |

Is there a reason you don't want glossy? Just curious? |

Yeah, you'd think your handle and signature would clue me in on that...

I thought matte black would add more definition like matte black adds to the helmet indents and vocodor. Then i saw this TX last night on whitearmor.net and he did the same thing. See the last couple of postings. http://forum.whitearmor.net/index.php?showtopic=8850&st=20 I think it really looks cool. With the exception of the lenses and the frown, i want my TX to completely be black. However, I do want it to have some variety to give it some custom character... |

Not sure if this helps. Hard to get a good picture of it. But the ab buttons on mine are a mix of flat and gloss. I just replaced the color combo of ANH armor with the flat.
