Hi all, TK6015 here from Florida. I've been enjoying my TK immensly but really deep down love the all black. Something about that sinister look is so appealing! My TK is an ATA kit and I have found it fairly reasonable to put together etc but have been seeing more of this CAP-W stuff on these boards as well. Is this available in black plastic? I have found what I hope will be a good source for some glossy jodphurs (I'm a girl so boot sizes can be an issue for me) but they also sell the flatter black that I would have to polish to a shine. I see some folks have been on the fence about which is better to go with the armor. Lastly, When you all apply your primer coat do you still use the standard flat gray plastic primer? I can't find it in a black and it seemed sort of silly to use a different color. Thanks for all the help! I hope to get a kit ordered in a few weeks and then get this project rolling! |

Hi, You made the right decision! Black is all about! Welcome to the Shadows ![]() I think that finding glossy black ABS armor seems to be very hard on these days. Maybe you should contact Crazas or cos_Vader (they may have informations for you about a possible seller). For the boots, you should have a look at the horse sport's sellers. Best is to have it in leather glossy material. If you can't find glossy ABS armor, you will have to paint a TK armor yourself. About the primer, no matter the color as you will apply coats of black glossy color afterwards. Good luck with your project

From Florida? Does this mean you're going to be at CV? Hope you get your armor done in time for for the Spec Ops photo! That would be sweet to have another on board. Yes, you usually can get the CAP-W in black plastic, but you would still need to put a coat of paint on it to get the glossy shine on it. I've had an ATA helmet kit, chest pieces and shoulder bells in black. All these items actually started to tear on me during the trimming stage and I had to quickly go the superglue and old t-shirt route to stop it. Since then I've grabbed 4 CAP-W helmets and I also have a knee plate and shoulder bells. They're all studier and cleaner pulls, plus the guy is just awesome. The knee and bells are as sturdy as my ABS armor so I don't have to worry about being uber-careful while wearing them. There's my CAP-W plug. Glossy jodhpur or chelsea boots are the way to go. A boot that's already glossy won't take a much maintenance as the one you'll have to polish to start with. I'm all about making things easier. I just use the Krylon gray that you get from wal-mart. It's awesome stuff and sticks nicely. The primer is mainly to give the paint a surface to stick on and isn't used for the final color so really it doesn't matter what color it is. Plus then it helps you find the spots you've missed on the first couple coats so you can make sure you're putting it on evenly. I believe I talk more about what I use to paint in my Novatrooper Creation thread. If you give the paint some time to set, you can actually wax it and that works better than a clear coat. Feel free to post or PM any other questions. -iz Edited by izzi, Mar 30 2010, 03:31 PM.

I would love to have it done in time for CV, it just depends on how fast I can get the kit in. We got my TK finishd and approved in under 6 weeks and that was only working on the weekends. @Romeo Knight...the boots I am going to order are womens boots from a horse sportswear site so great call there! I am going to go with the glossy. Edited by Phoenix, Mar 30 2010, 04:17 PM.

I PMed the info you were asking for. 6 weeks? I'd say that was insane but you probably have better weather year round down there than I do over here. Took me about that took for pieces of my Nova because I had to wait for the good days... That were dry and would let me heat my garage up above 30... Can't wait to see your progress! -iz |
