Ok guys, so this is the thread where I will be putting all my fun pictures and asking all my crazy questions on how to make the best gear that I possibly can!!! Want to thank everyone upfront who will be willing to offer their advice and help a old guy out... ![]() I will be starting to paint my black kit here in the next few days and I have been doing a lot of research on the best method / layers ect to go with. Some people prime... some people don't prime.. ect ect.. Any suggestions before I just go with my gut? My thought is to do: one coat of primer three coats of the Gloss Black two coats of ultra clear gloss That is kind of a mix between everyone elses ideas. And naturally need to do it before I start putting pieces together.. can always touch up afterwards. -Brixz |

I'd steer clear of clearcoating - it'll just make it harder to repaint when you get those scratches from storing and trooping. The Sith Lord Detachment recommends Future floor polish, as you can remove it before you touchup paint and it's not hard to reapply.

Personally I am into the "used and abused" look so my armors are always punished, scratched, and thrashed on. If you stay at paint and forego the clearcoat you can always use automotive wax to keep it shiny even if it gets scuffed. Just my .02 |

Right on.. So i'll stop at the Gloss Black and then polish as I go... I use a Wet Wax on my Chopper so i'll give that a go down the road and see how it works if need be. I went ahead and pulled out the handy dandy sweing machine and made a few neck pieces.. i'll post up a pic tomorrow of the results and you can tell me what ya think! and Scootch.. as much armor as you do.. your .02 is worth.. oh I dunno.. at least double that

ok so I got my armor last Wednesday from Scootch. Was super excited I must say. I have done a little sewing for my own neck piece and then started trimming and paint. Its taken a bit of work, but for the first time I am super happy with the results. I have a feeling I will go back again and again.. as I tend to be a perfectionist.. lol Enjoy the pics thus far and I am open to INPUT! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Nice. Work so far! If you're using Rustoleum Pro gloss, then you can get it so it shines every bit as much as ABS. Just keep working on it. And be sure you let the paint set for about a week before putting a wax coat on it. I've run into problems doing it too soon, so I just play it safe from now on and let things sit for a week. -iz |

So I am wanting to make my own back belt canvas style. My question is.. and I looked all over.... with the canvas belt can I put X like stiching for support or is it just one piece of canvas plain style? I don't think it would be noticable, but I wouldn't like to have to do it more than 1 time if need be. What do you guys think? Thanks for the help! |

The shoes should be fine. What are the diagonal straps under your shoulder bells? You might just want to adjust those so they don't show as much. Also you might need gloves with out the ornamental stitching on the top. Looks good otherwise, from this angle. -iz |

yeah i have a list of things to change.. the straps were my suspenders that were falling down b/c I didn't have them tight enough yet... haha the gloves though not sure I see what you mean? are you looking on top of the wrist? thats where the leather folds over and the velcro connects. these are leather motorcycle riding gloves that are leather on the bottom and then a thinner mesh where the cover is. If you guys think i should just get a cheap pair of black gloves so you cant see that connection then thats what i'll do... never thought about it. thanks for the help

Yeah the velcro must be what I'm seeing on the gloves. If you have a velcro fastener, in needs to be on the underside and able to be hidden in the forearm armor. I have an email address to the guy I got mine from, just shoot me off a PM if you'd like it. -iz |

So what if i covered that seam and moved it to the back of the gloves to that it was all one piece on that top side? velco on the underside? i have leftover strap material and would be easy to cover it. I like the leather hand material and light weight top side of the gloves. what you think... would that work?
