Hey, I am thinking about writing something about this in the future, and I will be asking the same question to several other groups I am in that share your enthusiasm with the Star Wars Saga. So, the question is? Why do you Dress Up as a Star Wars Character? I guess I should go first. When I started with a home made Mandalorian Armor, I just did it for fun and because I like Star Wars, but after some time, I found something else, a group of friends from all over the world, a way to bring happiness to other people, like children and some others not so young. For me it is always another way to share with my kids, since they love the saga and we dress up together. And it provides a escape from the day to day things. When I kid gives you a hug at a convention or at a hospital or at any event we participate, that is life changing, because in their little eyes, you are that character that they love so much, or that Star Wars character they just learned it existed, and ask you questions such as, where is your spaceship? or, do you work for Lord Vader, or, would you like to come home with me? So, I guess I do this because it opens doors to do some other things that I would not be able to do if I was not part of this awesome group of people. Thanks for having me. And, May The Force Be With You. |

I was born in 76' and I've for the most part been a SW fan my entire life (yes I was in the theater as a baby for the original release ). When I went to CIII and saw the 501st I knew I wanted some armor. It wasn't until later that I learned more about what the 501st does and felt like it was a way I could give back to the community and be the big SW geek that I've always been. I've been in for a year now and have no plans to give it up anytime soon. The people I've met, the smiles I've helped create and as you said the doors that have been opened have been incredible.

I first saw star wars as a kid on the big screen, I was lucky enough to see the special edition when it was on the big screen, too young for the originals though. I was fascinated with star wars and have collected it since. Met up with the local garrison at a convention with the sole purpose of having a stormie on a mannequin, but very quickly after meeting and making new friends, I was quickly turned to see the fun of dressing up and bringing a smile to the faces of children both young and old. And the rest is history so to say. |

That's a good one!! I have been a huge SW fan since I saw ANH back in 1978 (no, not 77, in my country (Costa Rica) SW has been in theaters several months after the premiere in america) I was 11 at that time (yep a long time ago !!!) And I always wanted to be an stormtrooper (not a freaking Jedi, not even Vader but a TK) Back then, there was no option to buy SW toys in my country, neither a costume (not even a halloween one). So, I waited for a looooong time until 2006 that I went to the Disney SWW and saw the FLG ppl marching at the parade. I was on a home made Jango, not a bad one but not a 501st one either and I was amazed about the quality of the armors. After this "experience" I realize that it can be done, that my child dream can become real so started looking for my TK armor. BUT I found this hypercool, supershinny, TX armor and that was my first quality costume and the one I registered to join the Legion and to found my Outpost. After that we started to grow as a Unit and work with charity and kids. (BTW this is one of the things I like the most). The story from here must be very similar to everyone else story. I love trooping and I will be doing it for as long as I can. |

For me i was kinda half half with my hobbies. i am not an avid fan of star wars but i do love armor. The love of armor, costuming, and then utilizing it to make kids have an awesome day just by seeing one made me want to have one to wear. I wasnt a fan of the white either and i was very very short to be a vader so when I found out about this special opps with black, my heart just flew in to the armor costuming world. now with a shadow trooper in progress still and a shadow scout i think my next one would be a clone...their is one in black but I wish to be one of the animated clones...yet dont see much black there but i might be Rex for the heck of it |

Well, not much to add at what had been said above... Fun, Stars in the eyes, meeting people and making new friends, making dreams come true... When I met the 501st French Garrison last year, it has been a kind of "revelation". I was always a fan of Star Wars until I discovered that I could become a part of this dream. |
