YGO: The Wrath of Baja Blast

Yugi, Kaiba, Marik, Kai, Drake, Tristan, Tea, Mokuba and Duke had made it to KaibaCorp's German facility, the one Dartz had made his central command post. It was a fifteen-story monster of a building, but was strangely devoid of human presence aside from their group.

Once inside the building, Kaiba immediately attempted to abandon the others, harboring no feelings of teamwork in this situation.

"Kaiba, wait for the rest of us!" Tea urged.

"You idiots can do what you please," Kaiba said, taking his first step up the middle staircase. "Dartz is undoubtedly on the top floor, and that's where I plan to go. You're welcome to tag along, but I'm in no way responsible for you."

Yugi jogged up alongside him. "Kaiba, it's too dangerous for you to go alone. You know what's been happening -- what almost happened at your building in California. We need to stick together if we plan to take down Dartz."

Kaiba pushed past him, grumbling.

"Let him go," Kai said. "Once he's finished embarrassing himself, I'll step in and beat Dartz myself."

"If Kaiba can't beat him, there's no way you can," Drake commented, snickering.

Kai turned to him, agitated. "You're one to talk. Last time we dueled I beat you."

Drake grimaced. "Barely, and you would've lost had it not been for--"

"Enough!" Tristan shouted, holding out his arms in frustration. "Enough with the childish bantering! God damn it, people! Can't you see we're this close to ending all of this chaos? And you're standing here arguing over who beat who like it fucking matters right now! Who gives a shit if Kai beat Drake or Yugi beat Kaiba? Why can't we just set all of that aside and focus on what's important right now? People are dead, and they're going to keep dying unless we stop this!"

Everyone was silent for a moment before Kaiba's footsteps started up again. As he continued up the stairs, a second set of footsteps could be heard descending, catching everyone's attention. A slender figure slid down the staircase, stopping before Kaiba at the top. As the storm outside raged, a stray lightning bolt streaked across the sky, lighting up the figure.

Kai's face sunk.

"What are you doing here?" Yugi asked, perplexed.

A feminine voice spoke, "It's my mission."

The lights crackled, illuminating enough of the room to show Kalika as the mysterious person on the stairs.

"What the fuck? Weren't you killed?" Duke wondered, almost sounding disappointed to see her.

"Who says I'm not still dead?" As she whispered her words, her eyes flashed a glowing blue.

Tea shivered. That's not human.

She spoke again. "Kaiba."

The former CEO sneered, trying to pass off his silence as indifference, but inside he wasn't sure what he was standing two feet away from. Is this a trick? What's happened to her?

"Dartz is expecting you," she said with a smirk. "You can pass."

Kaiba scoffed, quickly making his way past her and leaving the others behind.

"Kaiba, no! It's a trap!" Yugi shouted to his eternal rival, but to no avail as he heard a door open and shut. He slammed his fist against the hand rail next to him.

"So, what, we have to fight you to advance to the next level like some kind of video game?" Drake asked the woman in a mocking tone.

Kalika slowly nodded.

Drake nonchalantly stepped up to the plate first, setting his deck up. "Fine, this ought to be simple enough."

It can't be that simple, Yugi thought, confused about what was going on. Kalika was killed on the plane. I saw it! This must be some kind of trick.

As Kalika activated her new black Duel Disk, she glanced at Kai, who hadn't moved or said a word since she arrived. For some reason, this made her slightly uncomfortable. She was expecting some kind of reaction from him.

"Yugi, get the hell out of the way!" Drake shouted impatiently at the purple-haired boy still standing on the staircase.

Yugi snarled, then reluctantly headed down toward his friends.

Kalika stood her ground atop the staircase, grasping cards to create her opening hand. "Normally I'd say ladies first, but I know how much you love to go second, so it'd be my pleasure to allow you the first move."

"You think that'll help you?" Drake asked. "First or second, my victory doesn't change."

"Hurry up," Kalika said. "I've got more important battles ahead of me." She glanced at Kai once again, who didn't return her look.

"You'll regret those words," Drake said, pressing a card into his Duel Disk. "I play Monster Island!"

The virtual simulators lit up the room as a lush forest grew around them. A dormant volcano sprouted up to the side.

"Then I activate Star Blast, which allows me to summon Mothra - Ally of Monster Island (2200/2000) by paying 1,000 Life Points." (D: 8000 -> 7000 / K: 8000)

A giant moth with orange wings fluttered out of some foliage, bringing with it a layer of soothing mist from its wings. It cried out as it hovered beside Drake.

"I place two cards face-down and end my turn."

I'm surprised he didn't start out with King Ghidorah or Godzilla, Kalika thought. Is he testing the waters first or has he just not drawn either of them yet?

"Like I said, I've got more important battles ahead of me, so I'm going to cut right to the chase," the woman said firmly, revealing a card from her hand to the others. By the wide-eyed expressions on their faces, they knew full well what it was. "When I play The Seal of Orichalcos, your Monster Island card will be destroyed."

Kai grunted, finally looking up at her. "Kalika, no!"

That got his attention, she thought as she placed the card at the cusp of the card holder. He's next.

She slid the card into the holder, the Duel Disk immediately lighting up a bright green. She groaned painfully as she was filled with the power of the Orichalcos. The pain lessened and turned into adrenaline and pleasure, almost as if she was having sex. With the adrenaline rush came an unsightly physical change: her ears pointed slightly more at the tips. Her eyebrows disappeared, her brow scrunching up and angling inward, portraying anger. Her irises began to glow again, this time a consistent, unsettling blood red.

She couldn't hold back a devilish cackle as the forestry and volcano were mercilessly absorbed into the star-like symbol that had now enveloped the field.

"Oh, no..." Yugi said quietly. "Now one of them won't leave this duel alive."

Drake growled lowly as he awaited his opponent's next move. This doesn't faze me. I'm not going to lose my soul here.

Kalika opened her mouth to speak again, this time displaying two sets of sharper, longer canines. "Now that that's out of the way, I need some information from you."

"What?"

"How many cards do you have in your deck total?"

Drake had to pause, wondering why she wanted to know such a specific and rather irrelevant thing. "Forty, like any smart duelist. Why?"

Kalika beamed. "You'll see." She selected a card and activated it. "I play Deceitful Selection. With this card, you have to remove every monster in your deck from the game, choose one to add to your hand and show it to me, and place the rest back into your deck."

This move had most of the group stumped while Drake removed each monster card from his deck as instructed and chose one.

Eighteen, Kalika noted in her mind.

"Why would she purposely give him any monster he wanted from his deck?" Tristan questioned.

Duke said, "Maybe her brain didn't come back with her when she was resurrected...or however she got brought back to life after that plane crash."

Yugi, however, was onto her strategy, though he wasn't fully aware of what she had planned. She did that for a reason. She must have wanted him to pick a specific monster, but which one?

"Now that you've given me a huge advantage, what's next for your ill-fated plan?" Drake taunted.

"I'm going to destroy you," Kalika retorted impudently.

"Good luck with that," said Drake. Even if she manages to summon something with more than 2200 attack points, my face-down cards will protect me.

"I play Lucifer's Malediction!" she shouted with the activation of her card.

"Mala...what?" Tristan was clueless.

"It basically means curse," Tea clarified for him.

Drake's two face-down cards abruptly turned into blocks of ice, startling him.

"What the hell?" he asked.

"This card has multiple effects so let me explain. Firstly, it renders every Spell and Trap Card on the field useless during the turn it's activated -- except, of course, The Seal of Orichalcos since that's unaffected by all card effects. Secondly, it allows me to take any number of Devil Penguin monsters from my deck and send them to the Graveyard, and for each one I take out, you have to match me with your own monster cards."

Drake gasped, shocked at such a destructive effect.

"If I counted correctly, minus the one you just grabbed, you have eighteen monsters left in your deck." She lifted her deck and fanned it out impressively. "Guess how many Devil Penguins I've got to sacrifice?"

Drake gritted his teeth, unwilling to answer her.

"That's right, I've got eighteen!" she proclaimed, tossing eighteen cards into her Graveyard without a second thought. "Now you have to give up all eighteen of your remaining monsters as well."

"What?! That's insane!" Mokuba shouted, realizing what her move from earlier finally meant.

"Dude, she just disarmed his entire deck!" Tristan exclaimed, almost impressed yet still disdainful of her in general. "That's wicked."

That's why she allowed him to choose a monster! She wanted to count how many he had in his deck! It's a similar move to Kaiba's Crush Card Virus, then, Yugi noted, being reminded of Kaiba's blind determination to go on without them. While Crush Card only targets monsters with 1500 or more attack points, this strategy is indiscriminate and can hit every single monster in someone's deck if they have the right amount of cards. Kalika has definitely become more lethal than before, and she was already an impressive foe.

"This is an incredibly sticky situation for him, isn't it?" Marik piped in for the first time since they'd gotten to the building. "From now on, he'll only draw Spell and Trap Cards, which could render him totally defenseless if he draws one that relies on a specific monster condition."

"Not only that," Tea relayed, her voice selling immense concern. "But he's down to less than half of the cards he started with. His opening hand, plus the monster she forced him to choose, plus the eighteen he had to throw out, and -- he's only got fifteen cards left!"

Tristan and Duke joined her with mortified facial expressions.

"He still has Mothra, at least," Mokuba uttered, trying to find some glimmer of hope in this situation.

"Yeah, but it doesn't have its effect without Monster Island, and that can't be activated as long as The Seal of Orichalcos is on the field," Duke said angrily. "Damn her."

On the field, hearing their conversation, the thought of losing himself passed over Drake's mind, but then Kalika's demonic face reminded him of the goal he'd come there to achieve. Even with fifteen cards left, he wasn't about to give up. The match had just started and he was still in it.

"I'm not going to lose, you bitch!" he shouted to Kalika, who didn't shed a tear at his claim.

"Yes, you are," she said. "I never fail my mission, and I'll prove it to you right now with this card." She revealed another green card before playing it. "Lucifer's Contract! To activate it I'm forced to give up half of my Life Points (D: 7000 / K: 8000 -> 4000). Oh well. Its effect allows me to Special Summon any number of Devil Penguin monsters from my Graveyard as long as they have 1500 or less attack points. The downside is I have to destroy them all at the end of my turn."

She must be up to something again, Drake surmised. My Mothra has 2200 attack points, and that card doesn't allow her to summon anything with more than 1500.

"Rise from the grave, my hellions," Kalika hissed as the ground began to crack in front of her. Her fangs showed through her sinister smile, unnerving Mokuba and Tea.

Eight decrepit beasts crawled out from their early graves, slinking onto the field. Each resembled a penguin enough to tell that that's what it was, but they were all hideous creatures that seemed like polar opposites of the ones Kalika had used in her previous duels.

"From left to right: Devil Penguin Hellhound (1500/0), Deathdealer (1000/0), Hellseeker (800/0), Infernos (1300/0), Dreamstalker (0/500), Deathkeeper (500/0), Abhorrence (600/0), and Malignance (700/0). This is what I call...my Hell Guard."

"They won't be guarding you for much longer," Drake said defiantly. "They're weak and bound to fail, just like you!"

What's happened to you, Kalika? Kai wondered, trying to decipher why Kalika had suddenly become such a harlot.

"Have you ever seen monsters like that, Yugi?" Tea asked, slightly horrified at the sight of Kalika's beasts from Hell.

Yugi shook his head. "No, but with such weak attack and defense, they must have useful special abilities." He raised his voice. "Watch out, Drake! Those monsters are much more than they appear! Don't take her lightly!"

"Yugi, I don't need your help," Drake stated. "Look, you demon bitch, I don't care which circle of Hell you're from or how many peacocks you can spit out of your maggot-infested vagina! I will not lose, do you hear me?"

Kalika furrowed her brow and showed her fangs. "After your soul is taken by the Seal, I'm going to have some 'fun' with your body."

"You're disgusting. When I beat you -- and I will -- I'm going to burn your body and spread your ashes all over the fucking planet so you will never be able to come back!"

Kai clenched a fist. "You're not going to touch her."

"Excuse me?" Drake turned his head, somewhat surprised to hear from Kai now.

"You heard me. You're not going to put a finger on her or you'll have me to deal with."

"Someone want to fill me in over here?" Duke inquired, not sure what to make of Kai's sudden defense of Kalika. "I thought Kalika was the enemy. Why is anyone defending her?"

Tea stepped closer to him, quieting her voice as she talked. "I think Kai actually...likes her."

She wasn't quite enough apparently, as Kai swiftly looked in her direction. "I don't like that creature up there. I don't like anybody!"

Listening from her place atop the stairs, Kalika processed the words from Kai. The corners of her lips dropped into a frown. Kai, what are you saying? You promised me after Battle City... The Orichalcos bombarded her with hatred, and she shrieked in fury.

"Enough!" she hollered. "Kai, you're my next victim! Get ready because I'm about to destroy your friend here!"

"Whoa, something made her mad," Duke said, backing off.

Drake was becoming frustrated being constantly cast aside as a non-threat. "Hey, I'm still here, remember?! You haven't beaten me and you never will! Hurry up and finish your move already so I can show you why you should start taking me seriously, bitch!"

"Fine, if you want to die so badly, have at it!" Kalika refocused her attention. "Devil Penguin Abhorrence's special ability activates when I have three or more Devil Penguin monsters out on my field at the same time. All of my monsters can attack you directly now."

"Even so, they only have 6400 combined attack points," Drake acknowledged. "600 Life Points is still enough to beat you."

"You're so deluded. Hellions, attack this imbecile!"

Each bird of prey assaulted Drake, bringing him to his knees. Every attack he felt more of himself slip away. His energy faltered. He struggled to pick himself up. (D: 7000 -> 600 / K: 4000)

That hurt more than I thought it would, the man thought as he almost fell back down. I need to do something fast. With 600 Life Points, I won't survive another assault like that. The good thing is it looks like she'll be defenseless once her turn ends.

"Are you finished?" Drake huffed, finding it difficult to hold his Duel Disk arm up now.

Staring at Kai, Kalika said, "Yes, it's your move."

The eight Devil Penguin monsters began to melt in a gloppy, gooey mess, then dissolved altogether. Kalika giggled as her field was left completely empty. With two cards left in her hand and no cards on her field, she was surprisingly content, as content as she could appear with the face of a demon, at least.

Drake pulled out his next card, noting how empty his deck felt as he touched it.

"Okay, Drake can do this," Tea hoped, clasping her hands together. "She's got nothing to defend herself with and he has Mothra. If he manages to summon another monster with at least 1800 attack points, he'll win the duel."

"I don't know," Tristan said. "It seems a little too easy, if you ask me."

"Tristan's right," Marik added. "I'm not so sure about this. What do you think, Yugi?"

"I agree," the purple-haired boy admitted. "I don't trust her. She must have something up her sleeve. Drake needs to be careful with his move or it could be all over."

Kai crossed his arms, glaring at Kalika, who met his eyes on the field. She grinned widely, allowing her tongue to slither out of her mouth, taunting him sexually. She winked as he grimaced.

Drake looked over his options. Monster Island, King Ghidorah, Soul Exchange...all useless right now. He looked at the face-downs on his field. But maybe that'll work. I've got no choice.

"Kalika, you're about to lose this duel," he said confidently.

This garnered a giggle from her as she folded her arms across her chest, pressing her breasts up further to make them appear larger.

"Activate face-down: Mecha Kaiju Rebirth!"

Kai and Yugi perked up, neither having seen this card before.

He must've added that card after our last duel, Kai assumed.

"You're bringing back Godzilla?" Kalika questioned, a slight hint of worry in her voice.

Drake shook his head. "Not exactly. Mecha Kaiju Rebirth can only be activated when Godzilla or King Ghidorah is in my Graveyard. Since Godzilla is in the Graveyard thanks to you, it allows me to Fusion Summon MechaGodzilla (3000/3000) from my Extra Deck!"

Kalika dropped her grin, replacing it with a step backward. Her eyes grew wider as a mechanical beast stepped out of a wormhole in front of Drake. It looked very similar to Godzilla, only completely mechanized and platinum colored.

"What's the catch?" she asked quickly.

"Godzilla and Mecha Kaiju Rebirth are both removed from the game, and I have to send the top card of my deck to the Graveyard at the end of each of my turns or MechaGodzilla is destroyed. That's fine, though, because Mecha-G's effect doesn't rely on Monster Island being in play. With his effect, I can mill the top card of my deck to power him up by 1000 attack points (3000 -> 4000), and last I checked, you only had 4000 Life Points."

Tristan and Duke high-fived each other in excitement.

Tea wasn't as fond of the monster's effect and drawback, recollecting how many cards Drake had already lost, but she was at least happy the duel was potentially coming to end. "Get her, Drake! End this duel!"

"Kick her ass!" Mokuba shouted joyfully.

Kalika scowled at Drake's quick turnaround. "I won't fail my mission."

"It's too late!" Drake declared, clenching his fist proudly in front of him. "You've already failed, Kalika! With my attack comes your defeat! MechaGodzilla!"

The mechanical monster's mouth opened, its metallic teeth lighting up as bright blue electricity crackled inside it. The cannons mounted on its shoulders began turning a hot orange. The panels on its chest folded open, revealing another cannon that was gathering pale blue energy within its center.

Kai's body tensed up as he saw the monster power up for its attack, realizing the effect it would have. No, I can't let it happen. I can't let him hurt you. I promised.

He ran to the transparent green barrier of the Orichalcos, throwing a fist into it fruitlessly. "Drake! Stop your attack!"

Drake looked at him angrily. "Fuck off! I'm ending this right now." He pointed at MechaGodzilla. "Destroy her, MechaGodzilla, with your Tri-Force Absolute Zero Cannon!"

Kalika stepped back, reaching the wall behind her. She gritted her teeth, her eyes wide as the entire room was illuminated in blue and yellow-orange light. "I won't fail my mission!" she screamed as the attack commenced.

MechaGodzilla's mouth, shoulder cannons, and chest cannon all fired simultaneously. Each beam converged together seconds after leaving the machine's body, forming one large stream of pale blue and orange energy with electricity swirling around it. The massive energy attack quickly reached Kalika, obscuring her in a fiery explosion as she shrieked in terror.

"Kalika!" Kai bellowed, slamming his fists against the Seal violently.

"I think...he got her," Tristan said slowly as the light from the beam faded.

Drake waited out the smoke, a slight grin on his face. He wasn't entirely sure if his attack hit, but he was feeling good about it.

"Nice try," Kalika's voice rang out, distorted. "But I told you I wouldn't fail my mission."

(D: 600 / K: 4000)

"No..." Yugi whispered.

Drake snarled at the sight of her as the smoke left the area. She was entirely unscathed, but in front of her was the group of monsters she'd summoned earlier. What the hell? What are they doing on the field? What's going on?

"What happened?" Mokuba asked. "Why didn't Drake's attack go through? What are those monsters doing on the field? Is she cheating?"

"Explain yourself, Kalika!" Yugi ordered.

The female sniggered for a bit, relishing in all of their dismayed expressions. She eyed each one of them before her focus landed on Kai. What's the matter, babe? You look like you just lost your dog. I'll make things all better after I get finished with this idiot. She refocused on Drake.

"I have to admit, that was a close one," she explained, checking her nails for scuffs. "Even I didn't know if I'd survive that, but luckily for me my monsters' abilities activate regardless of my input."

Hellhound, Deathdealer, Hellseeker, Infernos, Dreamstalker, Deathkeeper, Abhorrence and Malignance had all taken defensive positions in front of the woman.

"Welcome back, my Hell Guard." She greeted them with a smug smile.

"I don't understand," Drake said, feeling completely confounded by this return of monsters. He grew angry, realizing he may have only made things worse for himself.

"I wouldn't expect you to. See, when all of these guys are in the Graveyard, whenever I'm attacked, they revive themselves and nullify the attack while also ending the Battle Phase." She cackled loudly, admiring the look of despair on Drake's face. "I'm practically invincible!" She cackled even louder.

Drake fell to one knee, his muscles becoming more and more exhausted.

"The duel is taking its toll on him already," Marik commented, noticing the heavier breathing of Drake. "With The Seal of Orichalcos in play, everything a duelist does expends energy. Being attacked and losing so many Life Points before had to have taken a huge hit on him, and now using such a powerful monster... Unfortunately, it's just like a Shadow Game." He looked to his feet, remember the torment he placed on others during Battle City. "It's terrible."

Kalika sighed. "Ah, so since your attack is over, my Hell Guard goes back to the Graveyard, but not without taking something with them." Her voice turned sinister at the end of her sentence. "When they go back to the Graveyard, Deathkeeper's other effect activates."

The deathly skeletal penguin melted into the ground, then reappeared in front of Drake. It reached over to his hand, grasping the King Ghidorah card he had. It returned to Kalika's side of the field, handing the card over to her.

"My card! What's going on?" Drake inquired, startled by the loss of his second most powerful card.

Kalika examined the card before placing it in with the other two in her hand. "Deathkeeper's effect allows me to take one of the cards in your hand when it goes back to the Graveyard."

"What's she taking that card for? I thought it couldn't be summoned because of that Deceitful Selection card she played at the beginning of the duel!" Tristan said.

"Read the fine print, man," Duke told him. "Drake can't summon it, but she's free to do whatever she wants with it!"

Marik and Yugi looked to one another, seemingly thinking the same thing.

"Do you think...?" Marik started.

"Yes, she had that move planned all along," Yugi responded. I have a feeling she never once lost control of this duel. She had the entire thing planned out from the start.

Drake felt embarrassed, having such a powerful monster of his taken so easily. He wasn't sure what to do next. Was I played the entire time? But how? I'm one of the best duelists in the world. How did I let this happen? I shouldn't be losing like this. I shouldn't be losing at all! Is it that Orichalcos that makes her better than me? Does it really grant this much power?

"I'll take your stunned silence as you ending your turn," Kalika said, drawing her next card. She placed it in her hand and removed another, slotting it into the disk. "I activate Sacrifice of the Dead. This card allows me to sacrifice up to two monsters from your Graveyard in order to summon a monster from my hand. You may be wondering why I'd summon your King Ghidorah when you've got a stronger monster on the field."

Beginning to seethe, Drake replied, "The thought crossed my mind."

Two ghostly figures rose from Drake's Duel Disk, then flew into Kalika, seemingly being absorbed into her body. She breathed in and out sharply, then laid a card onto his dueling device.

"I summon King Ghidorah - Destroyer of Monster Island (3000/2500)!"

A vortex swirled into play on the field, and soon three horned dragon heads stuck out from it, bringing a fully-muscled, winged body covered in nearly impenetrable golden scales.

"King Ghidorah, attack your former master's MechaGodzilla!" Kalika demanded happily. "Die!"

"What's she thinking?" Tristan wondered.

King Ghidorah's three mouths opened and lightning bolts shot out toward MechaGodzilla, who retaliated with its shoulder cannons. A beam struggle ensued, but three-headed beast's attack was quickly overpowered. The lightning and beams all hit King Ghidorah, causing him to violently explode with a low groan.

Drake fell to his knees, saddened at the sight. My own monster! I'm sorry.

Duke scratched his head. "I don't get it. She should've lost Life Points from that, but she's still got 4000. Someone explain this to me."

"Look!" Yugi said, pointing out a monster on Kalika's side of the field.

"That's Infernos!" Tea exclaimed.

"That's right," said Kalika, putting her hands on her hips. "He saved me from the damage I would've taken."

"I thought her Hell Guard did that," said Marik.

"Unfortunately, my Hell Guard only protects me when my opponent attacks, not when I'm the one inflicting the pain. Never fear, though. When I attack and something like this happens, Infernos steps in and my opponent takes the damage I would've taken instead. Pretty nifty, huh? The drawback to using Infernos' effect is I can't draw a card on my next turn, but that won't be a problem considering I just won the duel!"

As Kalika cackled evilly, she didn't notice the purple card that had activated on Drake's side of the field. A silver ring floated in front of him, four large prongs on it. Bright purple electricity snapped in between the prongs intermittently.

"Guys, look! Drake's still in this!" Tea shouted excitedly.

"What?!" Kalika hissed furiously.

Down on his knees, Drake pointed to the trap he'd activated at the last minute. "That's a deadly Trap Card called Reflect Barrier. When my Life Points are threatened by a card effect, I can activate it and it sends that effect damage to my opponent instead." I was saving that card to use against Kai, but she gave me no choice.

Kalika snarled and gritted her teeth, her scrunched up face looking more annoyed by the second.

(D: 600 / K: 4000 -> 3000)

That's a smart card to counter my strategy, Kai admitted, slightly concerned about Drake's sheer determination to be better than him specifically.

"Drake may have survived that devious combination, but he's still got a long way to go if he wants to win this," Marik said. "He can't harm Kalika's Life Points as long as her Hell Guard is around, and even if she screws up an attack, that Infernos monster will protect her again. I'm not sure what he can do here, honestly."

"He'll find a way," Tea insisted. At least I hope he does.

"I hate to think this way, but Marik has a good point," Duke said. "With Infernos in her Graveyard, Kalika could literally summon any weak monster she wanted, ram it into Drake's MechaGodzilla, and Drake would be the one to take all the damage."

Kai examined the situation. He and Drake's last duel included something similar. He recalled using his Sacred Phoenix of Eternity's effect multiple times, chipping away at Drake's Life Points continuously until Drake managed to counter. There's only one way I can think of for him to counter this strategy. He just needs to draw that card.

Kalika regained her composure, still sure of her victory. "I place one card face-down. It's your move. Make it a good one because it'll be your last."

Drake breathed in and out heavily, grabbing his next card. Let it be the one... He took a peak, a smile instantly coming over his face. "I play a card face-down, then activate Mecha-G's ability." After his card showed up on the field, he moved the top card of his deck to the Graveyard section of the Duel Disk, watching his monster's attack rise from 4000 to 5000. "There's no point in attacking you right now, but I will break through your defenses. I guarantee it."

Kalika began her turn. I've toyed with this imbecile long enough. It's cost me and I won't let it happen again. I need to fight Kai. "I pass."

"That's right, she couldn't draw a card this turn because she used Infernos' effect last turn," Tristan noted. "That's one good thing, at least."

Drake drew a card, knowing what he had to do. With only nine cards left to draw, he was running out of cards quickly due to MechaGodzilla's maintenance cost, so he needed to enact his plan at once. "MechaGodzilla's effect will activate, bringing his attack points to 6000!"

Mokuba chimed in, "Wow, that's twice as strong as my brother's Blue-Eyes White Dragon!"

"I don't understand why he's doing that, though," Tea said, perplexed. "He's only got nine cards left in his deck, and isn't making his monster stronger just increasing the chance that Kalika will do more damage?"

"He must have a plan," said Yugi.

"MechaGodzilla, attack Kalika and end this duel!" Drake commanded, falling to one knee again as the machine's cannons fired.

"Has the Orichalcos exhausted you that much? My Hell Guard will simply step in and your attack will be for nothing!" Kalika reminded him.

Drake scoffed. "I'm not that stupid. It's time to end your bullshit tactics. I activate Crevice Into the Dark Dimension!"

Kalika raised an eyebrow, having seen the card at Dartz's lair when she picked out her deck. She tried remembering what its effect was, but she was too flustered.

"How it works is I declare one attribute and then I select two monsters of that attribute and remove them from the game, from either player's Graveyard. Your Infernos and Deathkeeper are gone, which means my attack should have no problem getting through!"

The group rejoiced, Mokuba and Tea jumping in glee together. MechaGodzilla's Tri-Force Absolute Zero Cannon quickly approached Kalika, who pressed a button on her Duel Disk.

"Activate face-down card!" she yelled as she attack hit head right into the wall with a thunderous slam.

The smoke cleared and Drake heard the beeping on his Duel Disk. He looked down in horror as his Life Point meter dropped rapidly.

"Spell of Pain!" Marik uttered, shocked to see a card he'd once used as a nasty trick against his opponents, building up their confidence just to tear them down again.

Drake barely had time to notice the green card opposite him when his meter hit zero. The Orichalcos began swirling around them, closing in on his like a snare. He frantically looked around him, knowing full well escape was futile.

(D: 600 -> 0 / K: 3000)

Kalika cackled evilly as she pushed herself to her hands and knees, groggy but aware of what was happening.

Drake became numb. "I lost..." he mumbled to himself. "I lost."

"And because of your own monster, too! You must really feel like shit now!"

Tea was almost brought to tears. Until recently, she hadn't cared for Drake, but his actions helping them fight Dartz's henchmen made her see him in a different light. He wasn't as aloof and contentious as he wanted them to believe; he just wanted someone to understand him. She recollected the day he comforted her after Joey's soul was taken by the Orichalcos. There she was able to see the real him, and stop referring to him as an enemy. Seeing him in such a state of disarray now, it felt just like it did when Yugi almost lost his soul against Rafael, only this time there was no escaping for Drake.

"No escape for you," Kalika teased in a high-pitched voice.

"Drake, no!" Yugi shouted, running to the Orichalcos as it began to shrink around his fallen friend.

There was nothing anyone could do as the Orichalcos zapped Drake, draining his body and relieving him of his soul. His body fell to the floor like a bag of potatoes. Tea ran over to him, mourning him like she'd lost a brother. Yugi watched helplessly as yet another of his allies was taken from him.

Why do I care this much? Kai asked himself, feeling his fists twitching as he stared at Drake's dead body. I didn't even like you. You were a nuisance more than anything. All you did was get in my way. But for some reason, I enjoyed our battles. I've always picked on opponents weaker than me, because I couldn't stand the thought of losing, but you were my equal. You forced me to face my limits and push past them. Fighting you made me embrace dueling, and not just in the sense of winning against someone that never stood a chance. I realize now that those are empty wins. Fighting you made me enjoy the thrill of a real challenge. I guess...thanks for that.

When the threat of the Orichalcos had completely disappeared, and the virtual simulators had shut off, silence loomed over them.

Kalika decided to ruin the moment, humming an eerie tune. She cracked her neck, sighing deeply. "So...Kai, can we play our game now?"

I was wondering, should I extend the duel? Part of me wants to get to the next one, but part of me thinks it could go on a bit longer because Drake didn't put up that much of a fight in retrospect.

Ah, well, I extended it anyway. Maybe Drake will look a bit stronger now.

Now onto the next duel.
