Guys, I've been attempting to contact someone/anyone about the date for the 2014 Shamrock Open in Raleigh. No one has any info. But I think it might be because it's been replaced by the new CQBO/Carolina Quarterly Brew Off, sponsored by Raleigh Brewing Co. Entries are being accepted now thru 1/13. Here is the link: http://www.cqbo.brewcomp.com/ Has anyone else heard about the Shamrock Open or know anyone to ask? I've called the homebrew shops that sponsored it last year. |

I got this from the DEA facebook page: SHAMROCK OPEN 2014---LIMITED TO 4 ENTRIES/BREWER--FEB 22 ENTRY DEADLINE I wanted to let you know the Carboy Shamrock Open is scheduled for March 8, 2014 and we would love to have your club members attend the competition and judge. In fact we are planning for some special surprises for the judges and sincerely hope you can attend. With that in mind we are a somewhat small club and our entry numbers have become cumbersome for us to handle. We expect the numbers to be record setting this year and in order to handle the entries have decided to set a limit of four as the number of entries we will accept from a single brewer. We trust you will all understand and your club members will understand. If there are questions from individuals as to why this decision was made, please have the person with the inquiry contact me directly with their questions. Our desire for the 2014 Shamrock competition is less entries, more judges and for everyone to come and have a grand time and to not go home exhausted and overtaxed. Our entry deadline is February 22 for both registration and to receive the beers. Our registration portal should go live at the end of the month. Cheers, Mike |

Sounds a bit familiar, small club, event gets popular and ever larger. But has low judging participation which sends great events into a death spiral. As a club with a yearly event again, we need to address this issue soon, within the club if possible. Getting more members at aleast to novice judge status and willing to sit at a judging table with certified member. The ATF in the past was a member of the CBoY(Carolina Brewer of the Year)with May Mead Maddness. We may need to rejoin with CCBO.... www.cboysite.com BeerQuest |

Exactly! With the resurrection of a club competition and the possibility of creating a judging committee (details Thursday), I hope to do exactly this. |
