This battle is between ... well, anyone who wishes to participate. It's pretty unique, so here goes with the rules, descriptions and so forth.

Description: High above some un-named and rather unimportant planet, fleets clash in a conflict the likes of which have yet to be seen. Varieties of ships, classes and opponent's fight for victory over their enemies. It is a simple, and somewhat dangerous, thing to be happening, but it happens non the less. Fight for victory, or die a coward.

Rules:

o You can participate in any ship you have. Capital, freighter, fighter - doesn't matter. If you don't want to participate because other people have better ships, then don't, but done whine about it. Anything goes, some will obviously be out-gunned but thats the joy of fighting a battle. Nothing is certain.

o You must stay in space. You cannot enter ground. The space is very clear (no asteroids etc) with the exception of the thousands of ships that can be found. Every ship is out for itself - it's a free for all battle. There are all sorts of ships fighting here - you may come across three capitals one minute, and several the next.

o Be realistic. We aren't going to get starfighters destroying a capital ship in a single shot. Multiple strategic ones, maybe, but not a single one. Be smart as well - aim for the best areas to attack i.e. engines and so forth.

o Have fun.

I will set thee scene with a post, then others can join. I'm going to use the opening chapter from Matthew Stover's Episode III novel to set this scene, with some small additions.

The skies blaze with war.

The daylight is sliced by intersecting flames of ion drives and punctuated by starburst explosions; contrails of debris raining into the atmosphere become tangled ribbons of cloud. The nightside sky is an infinite lattice of shining hairlines that interlock planetoids and track erratic spirals of glowing gnats. Beings watching from rooftops of their cities can find it beautiful.

From inside, it's different.

The gnats are drive-glows of starfighters. The shining hairlines are light-scatter from turbolaser bolts powerful enough to vaporize a small town. The planetoids are capital ships.

The battle from the inside is a storm of confusion and panic, of galvened particle beams flashing past your starfighter so close that your cockpit rings like a broken annunciator, of the bootsole shock of concussion missles that blast into your cruiser, killing beings that you have trained with an eaten with and played and laugh and bickered with. From the inside the battle is desperation and terror and the stomach-churning certainty that the whole Galaxy is trying to kill you.

This is the battle you fight in. The battle you may die in.

But it's still a battle.
