HUNTING

Hunting is an essential part of a wolf packs survival, because without hunters there can be no nourishment and fruits are only a very very small and minimal staple of any canines diet for they are carnivores and need meat to sustain them. This is why loners rarely survive as long as wolves that are part of a pack no matter how high or low they might be in rank. Furthermore, most loners are actually looking to start a pack or join an existing one where they feel that they belong.

A single hunter alone can only catch very small prey like rabbit and other rodents or birds if they're lucky enough. They might be able to get a very weak fawn, but that too can be a rarity. Two hunters might be able to work together and get more fawns but nothing larger.

Groups of 3-5 are more likely to catch prey, but they shouldn't attempt taking down a bison or large bull moose.

A group of hunters larger than the rest might be able to take down larger prey, but wolves do not eat bear. However a larger group is more likely to take down prey more often than a smaller group.

All hunts do run the risk of injury to the hunters, even from a deer if they should kick. Elk and other antler and horn endorsed creatures can do a lot of damage with their natural weapons. Bears and cougars of course are large and can give as good if not better than they receive, so each hunter needs to be aware of these things and careful, but sometimes that is not always enough. Some have died during a hunt or received an injury that was so terrible it became infected and led to the hunters death.

FIGHTING

Fight for a Mate

It is usually the male of the species which fights for a mate. This is the case with the majority of creatures. In order to fight for a mate, there must be two or more suitors, the fight can be as simple as a contest of song, dance, wit or a physical fight. The female will usually choose whom she deems to have sung or danced the best, with wit or a physical fight the winner will be determined by two moderators.

In order to challenge another for their mate, and where wolves are concerned this can only occur if the pair isn't already bonded for life, issue the challenge by circling the other. Animals like horses and lions can always be challenged. The male lion may and usually will kill any offspring of the previous male.

The one who loses must leave if it is a pride of lions, or must never challenge again if it is for a wolf.

Fight for a Rank

Fighting for a rank, if one is in a wolf pack or something similar can become rather complicated. The lower the rank the farther one has to climb, but anyone can challenge for any rank, except Beta which is determined by the Alpha's themselves, unless they approve of such a challenge.

One does not need the Alpha's permission to challenge another rank, other than Beta. When one challenges another, they must issue it in a separate thread and let the player know that their character is challenging theirs. They do not need to ask the other players permission to challenge their character, but they must give them the link once the rank fighting post is up. The person, unless on vacation has seventy-two hours to respond.

If the challenger looses they will be treated like an Omega for one in character month, however they will not lose their current rank, unless they continue to make challenges without a decent lapse in time.<br>However if the one who has been challenged looses, they will lose their rank and be given the rank of whatever the challenger themselves had.

The Alpha, if they believe that any of their members is to higher rank hungry by challenging to often, they may lower that members rank or even cast them out of the pack.

COURTSHIP & BREEDING

In truth each pack may have their own little rules and eccentricities about courtship and breeding, but all of them are basically at heart the same throughout the site. The Leaders of each pack may add whatever they like within their own pack, but the following must be adhered too.

1. Before entering a courtship of any kind, your character must have been played for one IC months (2 weeks real time).

2. Furthermore before engaging in a courtship, you must have previously had 3, count them 3 threads with the potential mate before even starting a courtship. 1 = Initial meeting, 2 = Getting to know each other a little better. 3 = Asking about courting one another. After those three threads, an official courtship can begin.

3. If your character is in a pack, they'll need permission from their Leaders to become a courting couple.

4. A Courtship should last one in-character month (2 real time weeks) at the least, but can last longer before any decision is made. Once at least an in-character month has passed (that's seventeen real days) the couple should seek out their Leaders and get blessed and perhaps even have a mate ceremony.

5. Although the couple is now officially mates, in order to breed, they must first begin by asking the permission of their Leaders, unless of course they are Second-in-Command. The Leaders need to know how many couples want to have a litter.

In order to breed, after asking for the Leaders permission since it is needed otherwise the couple face consequences given out by their leaders, they must have talked about it in a previous thread whether before or after speaking to their Leader. A new thread, the breeding thread would then need to be made. However you do not have to role-play all the details. You can just have your characters talk and then wander off for some 'private together time in hopes of creating new life' or something like that. However if you feel the need to role-play everything please put [M-B] at the beginning of your thread title so people know its Mature-Breeding content.

7. Once your characters have bred, you will then need to fill out the form found in the Breeding Thread and then the Head Admin will roll dice for the stats of your litter.

8. Pups bred in December will be born in February, pups bred in January will be born in March, pups bred in February will be born in April and pups bred in March will be born in May.

9. Pups are playable when they are one in-character month old. Before this the parents may play them, but by the end of the mating season, if they do not have players, these pups will perish. That would be in June. We're sorry, but it is unfair for anyone to go on pretending that they have a family member that simply isn't there. Also in the wild pups are lost so it will make things more realistic, at least in this aspect. We hope you'll understand and will continue to role-play here at Acelle. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!

DOMINANCE & SUBMISSION

A Dominant wolf, usually the Alpha, sometimes the Beta as long as the Alpha is not present will have their tail high up in the air to signify which position of power they wield.

When a wolf is about to attack or when the wolf is hunting, their tail will be held stiffly horizontal.

When a wolf is relaxed and/or happy he or she will wag their tail.

When a wolves tail is slightly drooped it indicates that he or she is relatively relaxed.

Furthermore when a tail is fully drooped then he or she is extremely relaxed.

When a wolves tail is half tucked between its legs and has a partially arched back then the wolf is showing submission to a more dominant member of his or her pack, especially the Alpha.

When a wolves tail is fully tucked between its legs and has a highly arched back then the wolf is either fearful of a more dominant wolf and showing submission, or is fearful of something.
