Warning: contains spoilers for Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle and xxxHolic! Chapter One -- The Journey The feathers have been scatted throughout the worlds. Ashura has been sealed away, sleeping beneath the waters. There is no one left to fight in Nihon. These are the reasons for Syaoran and Sakura to leave Clow, Fai to flee from Celes, and Kurogane to be banished from Nihon. All four end up at the same destination; the Shop of the Dimensional Witch, Yuuko Ichihara. They all have a wish; to travel through worlds to achieve their goal. But each of them has to pay a price. Fai pays with the tattoo on his back, Kurogane with his sword, Ginryuu. However, Syaoran's price was by far the steepest. Syaoran is forced pay with Sakura's memory of himself. Even if she gains back all of her feathers, her memories, she would never remember him. Even so, they set off on their journey with Mokona as their guide. The hardships are just beginning. The feathers are hard to find, and many times, they must fight for them. As they continue to gain back Sakura's memories, she remembers more and more of herself and stops sleeping through their journey. However, she never remembers Syaoran. He is a blank spot in her memories, a ghost that used to make her happy. But the Syaoran that travels with her was a stranger. She doesn't even remember his name from her past. Kimihiro Watanuki, a boy who can see spirits, also continues his journey, although his is very different. He starts off as a boy desperate to be rid of his gift, not wanting to be haunted by ghosts and other spirits anymore. But then, he meets Yuuko, who promises that she could grant his wish... for a price. He has to work in his shop, cooking and cleaning for her. Little did he know how much his life would change from that one encounter. One encounter became two, two became four, and so on and so forth until Yuuko became a major part of his life. Himarwari Kunogi, the girl he has a crush on, and Shizuka Domeki, his rival who he constantly butts heads with, also proceed to change his life as he tackles challenges from Yuuko involving spirits, cursed items, and traditions that spelled trouble. The three continue to meet new friends and enemies, both human and spirit. However, the trouble has just begun when the group of Syaoran, Sakura, Mokona, Fai, and Kurogane reach the world known as Tokyo, where the vampire Kamui rules, his brother, Subaru, sleeping under the water. There, the secret surrounding Syaoran's past unravels. The "Syaoran" that has traveled with the group turns out to be nothing more than a clone, with half of a heart and a right eye, both given to him by the true Syaoran. "Syaoran" is nothing more than a soulless machine created by the dark Fei-Wang Reed, fighting relentlessly to take back the feathers and return them to Sakura. "Syaoran" steals one of Fai's blue eyes, the source of his magical power, and leaves him bleeding to death. The true Syaoran requests to return to where his clone is, fighting to destroy him, but fails. The clone leaves afterwards, only promising to return all of Sakura's feathers to her. Heartbroken by this, Sakura vows to continue on, desperate to return "Syaoran's" heart. As for Fai, Kurogane and Kamui both feed him blood. Fai becomes a vampire, and Kurogane, his prey. Meanwhile in Japan, Watanuki loses his sight in his right eye as a result of bringing upon a spider's curse on himself. He transferred the curse from Domeki to himself. Angry with this, Domeki gives Watanuki half of his own right eye, allowing him to see again. With this, Domeki also gains the ability to see spirits through his right eye. In Infinity, with the traveling group, Sakura has resolved to fight. There is something that she wants there, and she only can receive it by winning. In order to win, she uses her friends. The prize is simple; one feather and the power to travel to other worlds. But that one feather increased Sakura's magical power well beyond Fai's. His curse kicks in, ordering him to murder Sakura. Unable to fight, Fai stabs Sakura, separating her body and soul. Her body is trapped in Celes, Fai's home world that he wanted to avoid at all costs. Celes reveals Fai's own past, one that has been twisted beyond recognition. Ashura awakens, and they must fight both Ashura and Fai, the mage wanting to ensure his brother will be brought back to life. However, Kurogane kills Ashura, enacting Fai's second curse. It tears Celes apart, and Fai refuses to leave. In a moment of anger, Kurogane cuts his own arm off, yanking Fai with him. Mokona quickly transports them to Kurogane's home, Nihon. There in Nihon, Fuuma appears again, this time with a false arm for Kurogane. Fai repays Kurogane's sacrifice by giving up the other half of his magic, the blue in his left eye. Syaoran enters Sakura's Dream World, where "Syaoran" reappears with feathers he'd stolen mercilessly from other worlds. Angered, Syaoran and his clone fight once again, with Sakura's soul interrupting and taking the hit for Syaoran. "Syaoran" finally shows some emotion, and is distraught by her death. Before she disappears, she reveals that she is not the true Sakura, and that she was created, too. She asks "Syaoran" to regain his heart before she finally vanishes. Fai, Kurogane, and Syaoran now leave to face their final enemy, the man who started everything. Fei-Wang Reed, who also reveals that Watanuki was another clone of Syaoran, made to replace him in his parent's lives. Watanuki was never supposed to exist. As the two forces collide to free the real Sakura, "Syaoran" betrays his creator, dying to fulfill "Sakura's" last wish. Yuuko, who has been frozen at one age, sacrifices the rest of her life, along with Clow Reed's magic, to bring back the two clones in her world, bringing them together. Before the Dimensional Witch is taken to the Dream World, she asks that Watanuki that she wishes for him to continue to exist. However, "Sakura" gives birth to a boy, the boy who would later be "Syaoran's" original. The cycle would repeat over and over. Fei-Wang would have his way. To break the cycle, they hide themselves away in a small container in Yuuko's shop after sending their son, who takes "Syaoran's" sword and his name, to another world. With Fei-Wang's death, everything is supposed to be over, but Fei-Wang traps the three Syaoran's inside a blank space. Each of them must pay something in order to leave. Watanuki can never leave the shop. Syaoran must continue to travel until his price is paid. "Syaoran" pays with his very existence, fading away to become a feather. "Sakura" does the same, and the two clones continue to be trapped within the feathers. Watanuki takes over the shop, Domeki deciding to be his assistant. He never ages, and lives forever, just like Yuuko did before she disappeared. Syaoran prepares to leave Clow once again for his never-ending-journey, only to have Fai, Kurogane, and Mokona join him to look for a way to bring back the clones, still trapped inside the feathers. Sakura and Syaoran have one last thing to say to each other before they part. "My name is... Tsubasa." |

Chapter Two -- The Rebirth It'd been a year for Watanuki. Not a long time for someone who will live forever, but still, it's been a year. One year since Yuuko died. One year since the clones disappeared. One year since Watanuki promised never to leave the shop. One year since Syaoran vowed to continue to travel. It'd seemed like nothing had happened in that year since the deaths of Yuuko and Fei-Wang Reed. How long has it been since Syaoran - no, Tsubasa - left for his journey? How long until forever ends? It was on that day, April 1st, the day that Watanuki would turn eighteen. Even though his body would remain seventeen for the rest of eternity, he would continue to age. He kept seeing Yuuko in his dreams, she kept whispering things to him, telling him things that she'd repeatedly told him when she was still alive. But she hadn't appeared in a while. He only has one wish that day. He wishes for Yuuko to come back. Despite the fact that birthday wishes never come true, he still wishes as he blows out his candles. For Tsubasa Li, however, it'd been longer. Tsubasa was now eighteen, too, and was still traveling the worlds with Fai, Mokona, and Kurogane. They'd been to many worlds, some more dangerous than others, and have repeated several worlds. It's at this point that Mokona could feel something stirring. "Yuuko's back!" Of course, no one believed the white manju bun until they got a call from the black Mokona. Watanuki was on the other end, looking excited. At least, more excited than he had been in a very long time. "Did you feel it too?" he asked excitedly. "Yuuko's coming back!" They finally believed Mokona then. The group traveled quickly throughout the worlds, not stopping until they reached the shop. Watanuki and Domeki greeted them, ushering the group inside. Inside the shop, in all her glory, was Yuuko. At least, what was left of her. She seemed to be frozen in time once more, everything about her stopped in its place. She was staring straight ahead, a blank look on her face. Yuuko had returned, but she was simply a statue. She was no longer the Dimensional Witch. "Greetings, travelers. I see that you've made it back. Thank you for defeating Fei-Wang Reed," she spoke telepathically. "I used the last of my power to return here in this form. I can see and hear like I used to, but I will never walk the earth again. I must warn you of a darkness that is surfacing once more... a darkness that must be defeated, or it could destroy every world in a collision that will shatter the boundaries between every world." The group exchanged looks as Yuuko continued, "I must warn you of the darkness created by a cult of people from different worlds. They pray to a God that answers with chaos and death, and they grow stronger and stronger with each day. Just recently, they have gotten ahold of a dark magic, the Book of Pandora, and are using it to destroy worlds. Many worlds have already perished and I fear that they have no clue what destruction they are bringing." Watanuki, looking solemn, nodded in agreement, the black Mokona on his shoulder. "I'm hoping that I'm wrong here, but I think... I think that Fei-Wang Reed still has influence. He's a hard man to kill." Growling, Kurogane slammed his fist into the desk. "I saw that bastard die with my own two eyes!" "Yes, but people with enough magical power can store their souls in that power, and hide away in another dimension," Yuuko interjected. "Fei-Wang didn't want to give up. He hasn't yet. Now, with the Book of Pandora and Fei-Wang Reed back, you will need to find your own way to defeat him. Spread the word throughout the worlds, warn those that you can, even if they don't believe you. I can no longer help you. It is up to you children now." And so began the battle that would decide the fate of the worlds. Fei-Wang Reed. The Book of Pandora. Who knew what else would come up in their travels? |
