| Welcome to Advent Of Growth. The idea of Growth: To those who do not know what Growth is, this is a project by me and a select few of friends to change- or rather, revert from the things we see in our Role Play community and leave behind. This concept is to forget the unacceptable behavior of "Elite" role players; and to forsake the hierarchy. Pride has decimated our community; shattered the unity once shared by the beauty of delving into one's imagination, and sharing such an amazing experience. Now, it is about who can best who fastest, and arguments over who is better. This is NOT role play, that is pointless arguments, and it is disgusting. Growth is not just the development of players, but for us as people... to relearn what we loved so much about Role Play in the first place. Let go of your judgements, your hate, your bias; let go of all that keeps you from enjoying those silly moments, or the simple- yet intricate ideas we develop. We, Growth, wish for you to partake in our Project, and just... have fun. Growth essentially is a role play system where a character is created within our world and must discover their power, learn to grow, adapt, learn, and change. "I'm going to let the story shape and mold this character," This is essentially ideal. Of course creating a new character for some is a hassle, so if you wish to bring in a pre-made character that is your decision; just please remember to abide by the rules and ideas of Growth. Those who break the system, or attempt to.. we won't deal with you by fighting or arguing, but by merely forsaking your asinine behavior, and moving on with our lives, to leave you to reflect on your mistakes. Growth is not a guild, clan, faction, or otherwise community or society. We are the beginning. ~Polyanthes Please take note when joining our site: -It is imperative that you register your character. If you do not, and we find you posting in the threads, you will be removed or asked to register a character -Follow the concept of Growth; we do have a ranking system, though this is not based on skill but on seniority. If you have an issue with this, or feel you belong to another tier, the n please contact your local administrator or moderator. -Failure to abide by the rules is not tolerated. Leniency will be given based on the severity of the affront. -We are a growing community, and so any ideas are always appreciated. Feel free to leave a message on what kind of changes you'd like to see happen. -Although not necessary it is a good idea to register at Http://chatango.com/ for an account to chat within our OOC (Out of Character) chat boxes. Anons and guests will be asked to sign in, and failure to comply is automatic banning. This is to limit trolling and griefing other members of the community. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Guide: This here is a basic note for where you can find points of interest. First off, this is the home page, and on the left you'll find a small black box. Inside are a series of pages which you can explore, though it is necessary for you to first direct yourself to the Rules and Regulations page. Here you'll find the guidelines set on proper behavior within our community, and what can be considered acceptable or not. As it is, all rules can be bent or broken, though it's not recommended. At the top you'll find a variety of tabs, of which will take you to different places of the site. Each is labelled according to the designation of its content. Some parts of the site may or may not be accessible by members, due to the fact that certain prerequisites have to be achieved. If you have any questions, please contact your local Moderator, who will then inform an administrator of any issues you may have. Common methods of communication maybe through Instant Messaging, Email, or by finding us on a site we frequent. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disclaimers: All content on this site pertaining to history, setting, and other such things are strictly by the creation of the Administrators. Rules
Role Play
Before we begin discussing the rules for role play, some of you may or may not know what it is. Role play is simply a story told between two or more people, where each respective party takes turns posting what their respective character is doing. It follows the same basic idea as any story, where plot, character, and setting are established. This is all determined by all parties before beginning. Anyone can join a role play at any time, as long as all participating parties are in agreement. Though here it is a bit different. Since this is Forum role play, anyone may join at any given time. There are however, some guidelines and rules that have to be followed in order to have an effective role play.
God Moding
God Moding is when a character possesses abilities that grant them advantages beyond recognition. These moves enable the player to ignore all and any damage, limitations or gain powers beyond capability. This is forbidden, on all and any levels. Meta-gaming, Power Playing, Auto-hits, instant-kills, and OP all follow this category. Anyone caught God Moding will be removed from the role play. This is one of the highest offenses one can commit in the Role Play community and it does not bode well with staff or respectful players.
Meta Gaming
Meta gaming is granting knowledge to your character that they otherwise wouldn't have whether it be from OOC (Out of Character) or other means. Unless your character has achieved the knowledge that you wish them to possess, they otherwise will not have it. Breaking the Fourth Wall is forbidden (See Fourth Wall.) Characters are not capable of possessing abilities that can see the future, or read thoughts- an acceptation to this, is that one willingly learns telepathy to project their thoughts to another. Though once more, this power must be registered and agreed upon by staff.
Power Playing
Power Playing is controlling another character. This is forbidden as they are not your character; unless consent is given by the owner. To do this, alert your local moderator or make it aware to all players that both parties have agreed to this. If you do not, you will be flagged for Power Playing, and asked to repost (see repost.) power playing in combat is absolutely unacceptable. You will not be able to force control out of a character to act against their better judgement. These moves are considered OP (See OP.) or a form of God Moding (see God Moding.)
Time Limits
Time limits are the restrictions put on posting so as to keep the story moving. Typically if a player has not posted in the group for over a half hour, the story may assume around them; unless an agreement is made- or otherwise is crucial to their character. We ask that if you have to leave, you have your post stating that your character is in a neutral position so as to avoid tying up the rest of everyone else who might be caught up in your character's plot. Suddenly leaving happens to all of us, but please make sure to explain to the parties involved that you had to leave abruptly.
Auto-Hits
Auto-hits are moments where contact between characters are made without consent or under assumption. It can be as simple as a light touch, friendly and relatively not so harmful to full strikes, blows or other aggressive actions that may result in harm of one party or another (see combat.) These are generally accepted based on the nature of the action. Harmful and damaging actions aren't so easily accepted by players, which may lead to conflict in or out of the role play. Light touches or friendly ones are often forgotten, and quickly taken for granted.
Re-posts
Re-posts are for moments when a post is invalid. This may be due to lack of attention, God moding or any other rule being broken. A re-post will be given by the moderator, or common vote. If a player is against this, then they may contact a moderator to advise the post and determine whether or not it is fit to stay or must be done. The post is NOT to be deleted until the player has been given a chance to re-do their post; only then can it be removed. Often players use previous posts as reference though omit the mistakes.
Drama
Although we all have real life issues it is not your place to come into our rooms and complain. We are sympathetic people, but we have our own issues, and frankly don't always want to hear yours. Some minor complaints or voicing your troubles are okay but don't make a habit of it. Cause a scene or disrupt the peace and you will be dealt with accordingly. If people are complaining about a player's behavior then it is in our duty to investigate an apprehend accordingly. Do not force us to take action; it's an inconvenience to all parties involved, and only makes everyone's lives harder.
NPC
Non-Playable Characters are beings within the universe that aren't the main characters controlled by the players, and act as objects on the side to keep things moving or interesting (I.e.- civilians, shop owners, a pet ect.) Certain NPC's can be antagonists or working to help the players in their journey. NPC's are often disposable and do not last very long in the lives of the Role Player, though this is to be expected. It is not uncommon either for players to develop a sentimentality of NPC's. NPC's can be killed by anyone at any time regardless of who may be playing them, unless they're an obvious companion.
OP
Over Powered are moves that are normally capable of mass destruction, limiting characters, killing them outright, or otherwise overpowering. These moves can range anywhere from teleporting to warping gravitational fields or summoning black holes. The abilities range from far and few in between, and often are meant to give an unfair advantage to players.
Fourth Wall
The Fourth Wall is the "wall" that separates any character from their player. Meaning that; you must be playing in character or else you're breaking the fourth wall. Retaining information from the respective owner without having the ability to obtain such (No paradox's to have abilities that do such a thing.) Anyone who refuses to abide by this will receive citation just as any other rule must be followed. Omniscience is deeply frowned on. Refrain from giving your characters these abilities as they are considered meta-gaming (See meta-gaming,) and OP. (See OP.)

Character Registration
This is the template for your Character Creation. Since it is not necessary to have a full character sheet, there are some basic information that we as Administrators and Moderators need you to fill out so to better monitor the progress of our site, and what role play threads are flourishing. Please keep in mind, that when making your
character - a message will be sent to you by one of our Administrators, (Not moderators) Stating we either accept, or decline your character. On that note, there are some basic rules one must keep in mind when creating their characters.
-Plausibility
Any race may exist, but keep in mind their limitations and consequences of being such. Some races cannot leave a certain biome without severe consequences. Example - anything that might belong in an Aquatic biome would not be found on the surface, or even in "Level Zero," unless an acceptable reason is given. Please also keep in mind, that this also refers to any hybrid characters that are of bizarre races. Some common hybrids often include either a celestial, or abysmal being and although some can be accepted many will not. In example: An Angelic-Demon is not accepted anywhere on this forum; (in an role play sense) except maybe in "Free Play" (COMING SOON.)
-Growth
Your character cannot start with a wide variety of power, knowledge or experience; it must grow and learn to obtain these things through the world they live in and experiences that they come to face. If a character is deemed over powered, or we find that he is growing too quickly then unfortunately, limitations will have to be followed. Certain characters will have certain levels of pre-development once you have gained that privilege through the Tier System.
Now, on to the character itself. The following is a basic template for those making new characters.
Player Name:
Name:
Age:
Race:
Sex:
History: (Minimum of seven sentences, which is half a paragraph- not that hard, right?)
Current Abilities and Powers:
Personality: (Optional)
Appearance: (Picture is optional, though a basic description is needed.)
NOTE: Anything else you wish to add, or anything more is entirely left to the player. We're not too picky on your character sheets. For an example of a character sheet, please visit Polyanthes' profile. On that note your profile does not need to be your character sheet, as you have already filled one out to be accepted. Once done so, they will be moved to a separate location-regardless of being accepted or denied and once more a message will be sent to you.
Feel free to contact any staff members for their idea on your character's presentation and development.
~Thank you.
