Ideas for name trends according to race/region?

With so few examples to go by, it's hard to confidently come up with character names that fit the setting -- especially for races like Ursidaen and Dae'Vol. Personally, I think some solid suggestions and lists of examples would help narrow down the possibilities. (but if you'd really like a Dragonkin named Bob, have at it!)

What's your take on common names for one or more of the races? What real-life cultures might serve as guides? Should we publish official trends and examples or leave it totally up to the player?

I typically tended to use Germanic/Norse names for Threakians and Frankish/Greek (or just straight up more generic ones) for Arameians. Soilien tended to get more Chinese style names with Maradin winding up with the Arabic/Persian style names.

Elves I tend to recall wound up with these odd constructed names, partly because they chose the names themselves. I don't recall if Horo ever put down a particular inspiration for them name-wise, but I imagine they'd just steal anything they liked the sound of. It sounds like what they'd do.

Dae'vol names follow a guideline... the Dae represent your station in life, (Dae was a merchant/embassador of sorts if I recall correctly) Vol represents the family/house of the person and then there's a given name at the end. So if you were Dae'Vol Bob, you'd be Merchant of the House of Vol Bob to anyone who knew anything about the Dae'vol, which basically means other Dae'vol. :D I think I posted a list of their ranks somewhere in the dev forum at one point but it never got beyond that.

I forget what was used for the Dragonkin for names, I think it might have been aztec names, though I'm probably mistaken, I'll have to ask Button.

Ursidaen might well have been celtic names, it sounds like the kind of thing I'd do. :D

Buuuut, to answer your question. I'd be in favour of publishing it somewhere but not making it mandatory. Mainly because I'm of the inkling that more information is better than less information as long as it's not necessary information!
