I was looking around in the forums and saw that a Zombie Role Play hasn't been done in a while. I saw the tab for separate stories so I decided to write a little zombie story of my own. This isn't a Role Play but I hope it will be okay to post this. Hopefully you guys enjoy it and are interested in reading more. As you can see the Prologue and Chapter 1 are already up. Sooner than I thought actually. Well I hope to get some feed back from you guys, any suggestions or thoughts feel free to discuss. If anyone shows any interest in the story actually continuing I'll keep it going :)

Prologue

Arthur sat at the edge of his bed. He ran the game plan through his head over and over again. Although he knew that there was no other option but to get up and move on. However the crisp, cool air gently wiping his face was refreshing. All of his things were packed, sitting in the corner waiting in silent anticipation for the journey to come. Suddenly the fan stopped, the power was finally cut. The soft hum of the generator went completely silent. This was the signal to go as the afternoon heat would soon creep in. He stood up, giving out a slight groan, and gathered all of his things from the corner.

Arthur put each bit of equipment on in the order that he had established many months ago. He fastened the Parabellum handgun to the right side of his belt and the two butterfly swords to the left side. Next he slung across his back a sheathed nandao and a backpack. Finally he strapped a reflex bow to his left shoulder, holding the strap for extra stability and to give his hand something to do. It had been at least nine months since all of this started but he has still nervous every time he stepped out the door. The world was still very dangerous, and no amount of weapons or level of fighting skill could guarantee his safety. Arthur stepped out into the long hallway, looking down both directions to make sure it was all clear. Satisfied that everything was clear he headed towards the stairs.

He stepped out into the glaring sun, the bright light blinding him for a brief moment. Washington was normally a rather bleak and cold place, but during the summer it could be sweltering hot. Arthur cautiously headed north towards Tacoma. Seattle was heavily crowded with Crazies and supplies started becoming harder to get. The streets were surprisingly clear. Earlier there had been a loud bang, probably drawing the attention of the Crazies, causing them to group up somewhere else. This came as a relief to Arthur although he knew the now just as dangerous situation he would be in should he happen to run into the group.

Arthur walked for hours in the shade of the charred buildings. The crumbling, gray buildings were a depressing scene to travel through. The silence was worst thing of all for him. It was maddening to have no one to talk to. With silence looming over him, thoughts of his wife crept into his mind. He longed to see her and hold her. He longed to look into her deep green eyes and whisper one last time “I love you.” After a few more hours of walking in deep thought, he reached a tiny forest outside the city. Although he walked mostly in the shade, the heat was still great and sweat beaded up on his bald head and he longed to take off his sticky t-shirt. He settled down in the shade of a tree, taking off his equipment to take a short break. He grabbed a canteen of water from his backpack and sipped some water to moisten his cracked lips. Arthur pulled off his t-shirt and used it to wipe off his sweaty, dark skin. He put the canteen and t-shirt into the bag, preparing to move on. Arthur gathered all of his things and took one look back. A fire had started at the far end of the city, burning the already gray, decaying buildings. The ensuing flames would surely send all of the crazies his direction; he knew that it was time to go. He continued on in sadness, despite being alive, there was nothing to be happy for. Despite the bright, shining sun, there was no color or life in the city to cheer him up; just a gray mass of buildings that were dying like their masters. Arthur looked forward into the forest, its shade and soothing green drawing him in to the next part of his journey.

Chapter One: Highway to Hell

Arthur took his first step onto Interstate 5. He was wary of the travel to come, knowing that the Interstate is one of the most heavily populated areas for the Crazies. When the apocalypse hit its peak, there were multiple mass exoduses going in every direction. The highway was packed with broken down, wrecked, and abandoned cars. Although this was a far more dangerous route to travel, Arthur knew that this was the fastest way. Having to go around the long road that connected to the majority of the cities on the West Coast would take at least a full week of traveling. Arthur was in no rush to get anywhere in particular, but he dreaded the thought of being on the road for too long. He looked through the windows of cars that he walked by. One thing he had learned early on was that packed roads were often the best places to loot as people abandoned everything inside their cars in a mad rush to escape. He had long since forgotten the guilt he originally held when taking things that weren’t his. Arthur knew full well that no one was coming back for them and that if he didn’t take what the good Lord had given him, it would all just go to waste.

He bent over to peer through a small car window when something flew towards him from in the car. It smacked against the glass with solid thud, cracking the window. Arthur immediately knew it was a crazy and that he would have to act fast if he wanted to make it out of this situation alive. The creature inside gave out a blood curdling screech as it smashed its skull into the window. Arthur was unable to run, the moment the Crazy broke out, it would charge at him; screaming and howling to alert any other crazies within the one mile. He drew his nandao, grabbing the hilt with both hands and raising it above is head. Finally the glass shattered, out leapt the creature only to have Arthur slice its head in two. It twitched as it hit the ground, still alive but too much brain damage to do anything except for lie down in agony. The only way to kill one of these for good was to completely destroy the brain and make it nothing but mush. Unfortunately Arthur had no time to do this. After the creature broke free from its glass confines, the car alarm went off. It filled the air with its loud, nonstop beeping. Arthur panicked, all that would process in his mind was “So this is what they call fucked!”

Suddenly, at least 20 heads popped up amongst the field of cars. More Crazies awoke from rest inside cars and began violently bashing on the windows. The ones outside the cars spotted Arthur immediately. Panic and fear still had its hold on him, but with as much will as he could muster up, he began running. He charged towards a duo of Crazies that charged back from five cars away. The jumped and flipped over the cars with the speed and agility of freshly turned corpses. Arthur sheathed his sword and drew from his two butterfly swords. With one in each hand he prepared to take his two attackers down. Arthur dispatched the first one with a quick right handed thrust to the forehead. As the second pounced he used the left side of his body to flip the first Crazy over him, causing his two attackers to smack into one another. As they flew away from him he kept a firm grasp on both his swords and managed to withdraw his blade from the corpse’s skull. The second one quickly regained its footing as recovered from being on all fours and stood up right. Before it had a chance to strike Arthur lunged forward and swung a blade downward into the second Crazy’s skull. He stabbed it a second time for good measure before looking up and realizing that more shit was coming down the pipe. A massive horde of Crazies were headed his direction coming from where he had just been. They hadn’t noticed him yet but when he died, he knew there would be no survival. He looked forward towards where around eighteen other undead psychos waited for him. There was no way out for him. A large wall was to his left, and across the other side of the highway was a fifty foot drop to another street below. Unable to go forward, and unable to go back, Arthur whispered finals prayers.

“Lord, grant me the serenity to accept things I cannot change, the courage to change the things that I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

Accepting his fate, he pulled the Parabellum from its holster. He’d be damned before he let them eat him alive or turn him into one of them. Putting the gun in his mouth, he closed his eyes. A single shot let out.

Chapter Two: Eye of the Storm

Time froze, for an instant that felt like an eternity the world spun. Arthur opened his eyes looked towards the wall to his left. Some ways off in the distance, he saw what appeared to be a ladder roll down the side of the wall. On top was someone perched, holding sniper rifle and waving. Arthur hadn’t noticed the man before; he blended in perfectly with the light gray of the wall. As Arthur’s attention was drawn towards the man, so was the attention of every single Crazy. For merely a second all was quiet, before one creature let out a guttural screech and the dash for survival again. The hoard was now on a crash course towards Arthur, and there were still at least seventeen Crazies between him and his savior on the wall. Still, Arthur knew that he had to try and get to safety; he would always have his back up pistol. He ran as fast as his legs would carry him. Adrenaline pumped through his vanes as imminent danger loomed over him. Faster and faster he sprinted to his goal, vaulting over the hoods of cars. It wasn’t long before he came in contact with the first of the Crazies. Drawing his nandao, he jumped onto the hood of a car. As the first Crazy came he jumped from the car and kicked it in the face. Using its head as a surface to push off of he continued to dash forward, lopping off the head of a second creature. Three shots rang out from atop the wall in quick succession. Three Crazies in front of Arthur dropped.

“Only thirteen more to go.” Arthur thought to himself as he continued charging forward.

As nice as it would have been to clear out all opposition in front of him, Arthur soon realized that there had come a point where all he could do was run. Each second he spent attempting to kill any attackers in front of him was a second lost as the horde closed in from behind. The ground shook and cars were crushed under the heavy footing of the Crazies as they barreled down the street. He continued running forward, attempting to avoid the enemies in front of him all together. Despite being able to get past five without an encounter, there were still eight more in front of him and the other five were hot on his trail. Six more shots rang out; three bullets flew by his ear from behind. One grazed him and he stumbled for a brief moment in pain but continued on. Four Crazies dropped dead in front of him and two of his chasers hit the ground.

Now it was the final stretch, the ladder was a mere eighty feet away. Arthur dreaded what he knew he had to do, as four Crazies still blocked his path. He pulled out his handgun and shot three of the crazies in the head as he got close to each of them. He was a terrible shot and even at such a close range he had trouble making sure he hit the target in the right spot. Still, luck was with him in a twisted sort of way and three Crazies fell to the ground. Holstering the now empty gun, he took a butterfly knife and stabbed the last Crazy in the head. As he finished it off, three more shots rang out and his closest pursuers dropped dead. As he looked back he saw the horde had closed the distance with great speed. The ladder was still sixty feet and it was only a matter of seconds before the horde was on him. There snarls and growls grew louder and louder as they approached. As fast as he could Arthur jumped over the barricade dividing the highway and a small grass field. Just as he got over the barricade a loud booming sound came from behind him. Intense heat scorched his back and he was sent spiraling forward. A few more booms went off; they could barely be heard through the intense ringing in his ears. Slightly dazed Arthur stood up cautiously. A hobbled over to the ladder and began to climb.

As the ringing faded, new sounds took their place. Wails and screams of agony filled the air. As he reached the top of the wall, he looked back to the highway below. The entire street was burning in a massive, raging fire. Crazies ran in all directions screeching in pure chaos. Burning bodies littered the ground and some of the Crazies ran in wild patterns, unable to escape their fiery fate. Arthur turned to his savior to thank them until he felt a sharp pain in his head and everything went dark.

These are great! I'm sorry nobody's really been active in this RP. In the next few days I'll consider trying it out myself. We're just going through RP reform right now.

Chapter 3: Arthur Hobbes

A crashing sound woke Arthur from his deep sleep. The loud noise and startling awakening instantly give him a horrendous headache. Slowly he opened his eyes; his vision was slightly blurred and crossed. He blinked a few times and eventually his normal vision returned. He sighed quietly under his breath and sat up slowly to not make sure his head didn’t get any worse. He took a brief look around his surroundings, taking in the fairly dim room which made it hard to make out shapes and objects. Much of the room was a dark gray except for bits of black furniture which stuck out. He heard another clang that sounded like pot. Quickly Arthur stood and whipped around reaching for the nandao on his back. After fumbling around for a brief moment he realized that it wasn’t there. For the first time he realized that he had no idea where this place was. The lack of light and color made everything very difficult to see, and although the noise only came from perhaps twenty-five feet away, he couldn’t see a discernible figure.
Cautiously, Arthur let out a quick “Hello?” For a brief moment nobody answered. Then he saw slight movement as if maybe something had turned around. Out from the gray darkness came returned a friendly
“Hello!” from a female. The figure sauntered over to the left and flicked on the lights.

“Ah crap!” Arthur cursed as the light blinded him for brief moment. When he opened his eyes he saw a fairly average sized woman with light skin and hair. She wore black cargo pants and a white long sleeved shirt. Around her neck she wore a beautiful necklace with a green, heart shaped stone in the middle. The most noticeable feature however was the gun strapped to her hip, ready to be fired at a moment s noticed.

“How are you feeling?” The woman asked Arthur in a cheerful voice.

“I’m good I’m good….a little bit of a headache.” Arthur replied.

“You’ll have to forgive my sister for that. She sort of…hit you on the head. Can’t be too careful you know?”

“Yeah I get that, no hard feelings.” An awkward silence filled the air for a brief moment until the woman struck up another conversation.

“So what’s your name?” She asked.

He replied with rather timidly for a man of his size and nature. “It’s Arthur….Arthur Hobbes”

“Well I’m pleased to meet you Arthur! I’m Danielle Huntington.” Danielle replied with a smile. “Would you like some coffee?”

“Sounds wonderful.” Arthur replied, taking a seat at the dinner table. With the light on Arthur could see his surroundings much better than before. He was in what appeared to be a fairly large house. The table he was at sat next to a China cabinet and a medium sized kitchen. The kitchen was open with just an island separating it from the dining room. On the opposite side he saw the living was also open, it had two couches faced towards a large television that sat on a mantle above a fireplace. All of the windows were boarded up with iron bars visible between the wooden planks. “This is a nice set up you have here. A big house with electricity isn’t something you come by anymore these days. Thank you for saving my ass out there.”

“No problem. Though I would say you owe us one now.” Danielle replied with a smile and a coy wink. “We have a generator hooked up to the house that has a solar panel; it gives us plenty of energy during the summer. It also has a hand crank to power it which is a lot more work than it’s sometimes worth.”

“That’s awesome. I had a small place of my own in Seattle; I was holed up in an apartment until an old generator I had found eventually gave out. I was heading towards Fort Lewis when you guys saved me.” Arthur replied as Danielle came over and handed him a cup of coffee.

“You haven’t met very people since this whole thing has started have you?” Danielle asked with a light hearted chuckle.

“No I haven’t, how can you tell?”

Danielle seemed pleased to be able to answer his question. “Well for starters you’re too honest and trusting. Now days you often have to get to know someone for weeks before they give you anything about their back story. Although people hardly stick around for that long, they always have their own unknown agenda. Secondly if you had met anyone they would surely be going the opposite direction of you. Everyone knows that military bases across the country are the most dangerous places to go. The forts are where most people went, hoping to get protection from the military. They’re worse the big cities like Seattle, I’m surprised you survived there, however there isn’t any surprise that you didn’t meet any people while there.”

“Wow, you really know your stuff. I don’t really know much of what’s been going, when all of this started I was really caught off guard. I’ve pretty much spent the past nine months hiding in Seattle. It was so overrun I didn’t dare to try and go anywhere. By the time I had any time to see the news or read the papers, everything had pretty much shut down. No radio, no television, and I could barely find an intact newspaper.”

“How could you not know about any of this? You’d have to be pretty busy to have completely missed the fact that an apocalypse was starting.”

Arthur hesitated before responding. He remembered what Danielle said about people often keeping their history to themselves. Eventually he decided that he would get nowhere trying to be an enigma. “Well when shit hit the fan for me, I was in an MMA fight in Seattle. Someone went crazy in the stands and all of the cheers changed to screams. It was pure chaos as a thousand people broke out into a massive brawl. A fire broke out in the arena and I barely made it out alive before the whole building burned down. Out the streets it was just as hectic. The first thing I thought to do was to call my wife in California, but there was no answer. I eventually holed up in an apartment until supplies ran out. Now I’m here.”

“Wow, that’s quite a story you got there. So you are a martial artist? That explain your crazy fighting skills I saw back at the bridge.”

“Yeah, I was a fighter for five years; I was on the road to a middle weight title before everything came crashing down on the world. How about you? What did you do before all of this?” Arthur asked.

“I was serial killer.” Danielle said suddenly looking serious before breaking into a laugh at seeing Arthur’s frightened face. “You should have seen your face that was great! No, no I was a medical student getting ready to be a doctor.”

“You have a messed up sense of humor, but you have some really useful skills then.” Arthur said a little shaken.

“Yeah, my knowledge of medicine has helped a lot during that past few months. Although the reason I’m alive today is because of my sister, she was in the army before all this started”

“I see….where is your sister?” Arthur asked.

“She is scouting for supplies. She should be home any minu--” Suddenly there were several shots fired from outside. Danielle quickly stood up and grabbed a bat from the corner. It was wooden with sticking out and wrapped in barbed wire. She tossed to Arthur and pulled out her gun. Arthur ran outside first. He saw a tall chain link fence with a various things used as barriers outside of it. Arthur headed to a large metal door in the fence and pushed through it. Outside, five crazies were swarming Danielle’s sister. Arthur charged one of them had smacked it in the back of the head. With a loud crack the Crazies skull caved in and it hit the ground. Arthur gave a second swing to make sure the job was finished before moving on to a second Crazy. Danielle rushed outside and shot two of the Crazies. Danielle’s sister finished off the last of them with three rapid shots with an assault rifle.

Breathing hard and limping, she started heading into the house. Danielle and Arthur quickly ran to her to give support and the three went back inside, closing the gate behind them with a groaning clang.

Sorry if this post is a little dry. I'm still sort of working on it but I wanted to introduce Arthur a bit more and maybe bring in some new characters. As always feel free to comment about anything; thoughts on the story, suggestions, or corrections that should be made. Hope you are all enjoying this and there will be more to come soon :)

*Nods* good job so far, it does seem a little dry in places BUT it is very well written. Do not doubt your skills, they are good and possibly better than you know it!
