Since these adoptions seem to be in vogue at the moment, I wanted to announce that I've appointed Acheron as my Heir, the Hereditary Duke, in my region of Normandy. He also gets the title of Duke of Orleans.

Congratulations Acheron :D

PS, don't ask how this affects Acheron's membership of the Mercer family, because I don't know :P Let's just say he's simultaneously in both...

How so? I would lose my Prince status, as I am no longer tied to him. But that wont affect Bourbon, as he appointed me Marquess. That has no tie to the Duke at all. Unless he took them all away
I think you don't understand the Peerage system...

Ive read it over a few times. All positions except Prince and Hereditary Duke are directly tied to the Duke. Everyone else is established into that position by the Duke

I get what you mean... by default, you are a Prince, though you are now also a Marquess. The reason for this, though, is bloodline, so if it is interrupted, it may not apply anymore.

Technically Alex would be attached through marriage not blood.

Well, he can be considered to be a blooded Mercer while he is married to Alicia. What I was saying is that the appointment of Marquess of Bourbon happened because he and I are related. Which means that if I were removed as Hereditary Duke, everyone who was appointed to a lesser title of nobility (where lesser stands for "lower than Prince") would be removed, as well (unless significant contribution to the community took place before my hypothetical removal).

Unless you are that one European King who retired and went into a Catholic Monk thingy...
Phillip of Spain?

Wikipedia says it was Charles V (Phillip's father)

Or if you decided to cut ties with lesser nobility though either disowning or, I shudder to think, divorce.

I was more worried about me!

But you better not hurt my daughter!

I still have ideas on how to use a rusty steak knife and a blow torch!
