Classes have started!! The Geography lessons are the only ones that have been written so far, so no nothing is missing. Please do them at a reasonable pace as I don't know when I'll be able to write the next ones and you don't want to get bored

In roleplay, Godmoding means trying to exert too much control over the plot and other characters, usually because the player has no concept of in character or out of character and is there to "win" or thinks that people will find their characters cool if they can’t be beaten and have no flaws whatsoever (not true). We do not want to see any of these examples on this forum. We recognize that for most of you this is your first Role Playing site so we may be slightly lenient and certainly give you at least one warning, but if godmoding continues to be a problem we will give punishments, loss of dragon eggs, loss of gold, and so on until the problem is either resolved or we’ve exhausted our efforts and expulsion is our only option to get it to stop. Types of Godmoding 1) Invincibility Creating a character so powerful and invulnerable that it cannot take any damage, be incapacitated or hindered, lose a fight, feel pain etc. Ex. Do not make a character who can turn into a dragon, unicorn, and mermaid while fighting off the entirety of the Empire who have a bone to pick with you because you are the descendant of the first Eragon, who consequently had a thing with Rhünon which is why you are so good at every subject in studies, etc… In other words, even though we are playing fantasy, at least be somewhat realistic. Your character needs depth and flaws. Otherwise in the end it won’t be fun for you or anyone else who plays with you. I actually enjoy putting fears and flaws into my character, so I can get her into hilarious/embarrassing/dangerous situations. Trust me basic is best, they can be good at some things, but don’t get ridiculous. Pay attention to what year / age you are in the game. A youngling is not going to be a Rider, Elven Queen, Varden Leader, or anything else of that kind. Even the Riders weren’t magic masters that young and they were some of the brightest minds of their time. There are going to be magic classes, so do it legally, okay? Besides if school starts and a teacher or prefect sees something illegal going on you could end up in jail. Do you really want to be in jail for years, and not able to post anywhere? Just like they say when you are a kid, enjoy your life now, because when you grow up you may miss the joys of youth and even those times working towards and trying to become a Rider, master magician, read people minds, or block your mind from being read. Those are wonderful opportunities. Also unless given specific permission from very high up you are not a werecat, Shade, Dragon, or any other special creature/powered being, besides a race here. So far we haven’t said anything or bothered any one about it, because we’re just starting and studies haven't started. But when studies we’ll be cracking down on this. 2) Dictating Other Players' Responses (Without Getting Permission) Ex. Swinging a punch and telling the other player that they are down, that they are unconscious, cut, dead or whatever. It might also mean dictating someone else's emotions or feelings. In other words, unless you have permission from the other rper you cannot say things like “I hit her and she fell”. You only have control of your own character not others. They don’t win or lose without your say so and you don’t win or lose without theirs. Rping is about cooperation. Don’t suggest you know what anyone is doing or thinking, you say what you do, they’ll say how they respond, back and forth. This is probably most peoples biggest pet peeve. The reason someone makes a character is to control them, generally. And be realistic, if they are awesome and getting top grades in let’s say botany, and you got an medium grade, don’t insist that you’d beat them in a potions battle, etc… Additionally, this counts for non-played, guest, or played RP characters as well. I don’t want to hear things like Roran is in love with me or despite rumors (evidence) Eragon and Arya are just friends, because we are together. If someone eventually plays Roran and they believe he has fallen for you then that’s fine, that being said if the rper does not think the character of Roran would be interested in your character, they can have him not like you. It’s at the rpers discretion. You are allowed to start rumors if you’d like, but that doesn’t mean you’ll necessarily end up with them. The Characters are fair game to go after, but you can’t own them. They have their own choices to make. This also goes for non-romantic aspects. You can’t say you beat any of the characters, that they used a spell on someone else, without their say so or without it happening in a public place. 3) Impossibility Drawing a knife when your hands are tied. Being held by the hair and with a knife at your throat but whizzing round and slapping your captive and disarming them, etc… Don’t do the impossible. If you can effectively write something to get yourself out of a situation that is believable, we are all for it. But if it’s not believable it’s forcing the plot which is godmoding, and you’ll get called on it. Impossibility still can occur in the wizarding world. Believe me I’ve seen a lot of tries at it. 4) Changing the Plot Taking the plot to crazy turns purely to avoid your character having to suffer a misfortune or to make one. Don’t add ridiculous drama, if you pulled off a little prank or something and now you are claiming that you are mortally wounded, or have risen from the dead, you are godmoding. On the other end of the spectrum, if you have actually gotten caught by a teacher, you can’t then claim you had an invisibility cloak so you can’t have been caught. If you have been caught and think you’ll be able to get away with it by editing your post you’re wrong. Thing is posts say when they are edited, so if you got in trouble and your getting caught was at 12:00, but your edited post is 12:56 and you are trying to convince us that it was there the whole time we will see it. 5) Anything that is used to let one character force the plot and does not enable the story to be a properly collaborative effort with plausibility. Godmoding is annoying, anti-social, counterproductive and often makes the character disliked. Nobody thinks the godmoder is strong, hard, cool or intelligent. Often those who create these characters are shunned/ostracized, get others annoyed, and are believed to be rude/inconsiderate or new and don’t understand how roleplaying on a site works. So please don’t do it. If we can manage to get past this then the board will be enjoyable for all. Edited by Evarínya, Feb 17 2013, 04:42 AM.
