This is quite possibly the most entertaining horror-comedy since Night of the Creeps.

It's the film from my avatar and signature.

It's gory, silly, insane, and always has its tongue firmly planted in its cheek. Perfectly campy.

Plus it has Coolio and Adrienne Barbeau. Can't go wrong with either of them.

Coolio?! Ew. I like Adrienne though so that's nice as long as she's more than just a cameo.

I might give this a watch but I'm not sure if I want to spend money on it. :P

Adrienne isn't a HUGE character, but she's definitely more than a cameo.

And don't diss Coolio. He and Bill Moseley have amazingly hilarious chemistry in their cameos in The Convent. They play off each other's comedic timing in an almost perfect way.

The main thing I love about The Convent is that, despite being made and set in 2000, it really does look and feel like a b movie from the 80s era. Plus I like how ridiculously uninhibited the film is with its jokes, gore, and demon makeup.

Plus, this is the greatest opening scene to any movie ever made ever.

^ Yes. It is VERY comparable to the original Night of the Demons. It was very obviously inspired by that kind of film... But dare I say it, the characters in The Convent are actually a lot more entertaining as a whole. (I know, that's a very bold statement to make.)

I still love Night of the Demons, and I even love the remake. (Don't judge me. It's great.)

I'm glad you brought this movie to my attention! lol. I had a blast with it. Although, at times it came across as more of a spoof rather than a homage to Night of the Demons, but that's okay. I freaking loved Adrienne Barbeau, and the gay guy was pretty funny.

The goth chick (who looked EXACTLY like Angela from NOTD by the way) was great too.
"Are you a bulimic bitch?" (lol)

All the characters were entertaining in their own way though.

I was always keen to see this one, but it never made it to Australia, and I guess it has got lost in the shuffle over the years.

Yeah, it's most certainly a comedy more than it is a horror film. I mean, it's incredibly gory and slimy, and I fucking love the shit out of it, but it relies more on humor than any real scares.

That's one thing I love about it though: the characters. They're all entertaining and unique in their own silly-ass way. Mo, the goth chick, is the greatest thing ever, as is the gay guy. (who is actually now a famous drag queen, Kelly Mantle) Apparently they're making a prequel called The Devil's Convent, and Kelly's playing one of the nuns... Which should be fuckin' hilarious.

I also love that the script was written by a woman. I know it's more comedy than horror, but there is still to this day not very many female horror directors or screenwriters, and I think Chaton Anderson is freaking badass. (She also plays Sapphira in the movie, the Satanic chick with the huge cans.)
