The inhabitants of a small Japanese town become increasingly obsessed with and tormented by spirals.

An interesting film though some of the spirals were a bit of a stretch (curly hair draining the life out of people) I liked the snail people though. This is another one based on a manga.

^I love the manga. The big problem with the story of the film is that they started filming before the third volume was finished, which is when it goes from being more episodic to wrapping it all up for an actual conclusion.

Excluding some of the problems with the story, I do really like this. They did a good job translating the images from the manga to film. I'd recommend the manga over the film, but it's still very good.

I just rewatched this, so I'm going to give it a bit more of a review. The highlight of the film is the images. They've done their best to interpret some scenes from the manga, and it's easily the best part of the film. I'd watch this before reading the manga, because the film isn't nearly as good. It's still really memorable, especially the body horror. Even though I'm going to go into a bunch of complaints generally about the story, it doesn't really take to much away from the film for me. I'd just try to go in expecting it to be more like a series of short stories featuring the same characters and spirals. Unfortunately, it makes more of an attempt to pretend that it's all building to an actual conclusion, but try to ignore that, as it really isn't leading anywhere. It has the usual j-horror weirdness, and I like some and dislike others. The intentional humor is kind of hit-or-miss to me, but I did get a kick out of the long romantic bike ride and excitement over the greatest melon ever. There's also a rather majestic group of bitches at the main character's high school.

I thought the snail people was the point at which the film jumped the shark. Otherwise, I liked it.

I just find out about this and want to watch it. It should be a strange tale with some weird and cool imagery.

I haven't read what this is based on, but the plot sounds pretty damn great, if you ask me.

I would like to say again that I do love this. The manga is amazing, but the movie is a pretty good adaptation of the material. With body horror stuff, there is a bit of a limit to what they can do on screen.

Body horror? I'll have to read manga for the first ever.
