Plot
A mysterious man who has multiple jobs as a garage mechanic, a Hollywood stuntman and a getaway driver seems to be trying to escape his shady past as he falls for his neighbor - whose husband is in prison and who's looking after her child alone. Meanwhile, his garage mechanic boss is trying to set up a race team using gangland money, which implicates our driver as he is to be used as the race team's main driver. Our hero gets more than he bargained for when he meets the man who is married to the woman he loves

I think this is a very diverting and unique film. Reminiscent of Mulholland Drive, neo-noir, and Grimm fairly-tales. A great display of post-modern filmmaking. Would recommend.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. It's basically everything that Only God Forgives should have done right.

Best movie of 2011. Brutal and gripping. SO not what I expected it to be but that made me love it even more.

This pretty much sums it up. While Only God Forgives had a bit more going for it visually and had some pretty memorable moments, it lacked real emotion and was just...really slow. Robby didn't like it. I thought it was pretty okay. But we both really liked this.

I was worried before I saw it that this would just be another super slow-moving artsy sort of thing but thankfully, it was pretty fast paced (especially after the admittedly slow first forty minutes or so). I loved the soundtrack and how the opening credits randomly made me think of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. In some ways, this movie is like GTA. Think of the main guy as the character you play as in a GTA game who takes 'missions' from people and gets caught up in a pretty gnarly storyline that he has to fight his way out of. (lol) Maybe I'm overthinking that a tad. *Shrug*

This was much more brutal than I expected it to be. I figured it would have a couple of standout death scenes but I wasn't expecting some scenes to be drenched in blood. Heads blown off, arms sliced open, gunshot kills, stompings, and more. Yikes! There are some pretty great scenes involving an elevator, a beach, and a motel room. Death-wise, I was really satisfied by who died and when they died, though I do wish that

had lived longer and was more of a badass. I really liked her<3.

The characters weren't anything too new and fresh but they worked. It was hilarious seeing Nemo's dad/the uncle in Weeds as such a big bad guy and he got two surprisingly brutal and...just really cold feeling scenes that left me more 'scared' of him than Ron Perlman's character, lol. The blossoming romance aspect was pretty unoriginal but was still effective and I wanted a happy ending for them so I can't complain about that.

This does have a couple of slow moving areas but once the robbery happens a little over halfway into it and things start to go crazy, they stay crazy and this is never boring at all. (thumbsup) Overall, this was pretty damn good. It's not an instant favorite and it's not even a favorite of mine from 2011 but it was better than expected, I'm glad I bought it (I found the DVD for only one dollar but still) and I can definitely see myself watching it again sometime.

6.5/10 quality, 7/10 entertainment (it would've been an 8 if not for the fact that it took a long while to really 'get started' - no big deal though)
