I decided to do some actual planning about what new releases I want to watch first, and this managed to end up toward the top of the list, even though I'm not entirely sure I'll like it. It at least sounds like it is unique. |

Overall, I thought this worked pretty well. It's kind of an artsier Blair Witch, if you were to take acid before watching the last act. It's hard not to feel like they could have done more with the concept, which was pretty interesting. There just is a lot of stuff that doesn't really have any pay-off, like most of the stuff that happens before the movie the characters are making shifts to being about Mr. Jones. This is another found footage film this year that doesn't bother pretending all that hard that it's real. It probably helps everything that the leads are decently charismatic and likable. It was enough for me to balance out some of the questionable acting in some of the minor parts, some of the dumb things the script has them do, and their general characterization issues. The best thing about the film is that it abandoned the found footage thing partway through, and it managed to look ridiculously good in both portions of the film. There's some nice images. Changing styles worked perfectly with the story, so I think it is a good example of what can be done with the format even if it still has some issues. It's not great, but it's still worth watching. |

I thought this was pretty decent too. For me, the first hour or so worked better than the third act. The first hour had some genuinely creepy moments with a great sense of mystery and dread. It also helps that I really liked the two leads and was really fond of how they handled the 'interviewing people' aspect. One interview in particular stuck with me for the creep factor and the fact that it served as a warning to one character while another was wandering around elsewhere doing the exact opposite of what the interviewee warned about. It doesn't hurt that the 'scarecrows' were really creepy too! Mr. Jones 'himself' was fucking SCARY in the best way possible and I am beyond grateful that while they did something unexpected that took away from the mystery of the character, they never showed too much of 'him' and never turned 'him' into a joke or anything. I personally understand the many possible meanings of the third act but unfortunately, the whole thing was done in a way that many people may not understand which will undoubtably lead to countless 'haters' of this film, which is a damn shame. Yes, the third act was confusing, random, and often sloppy, but after spending like THREE HOURS thinking about it and bouncing ideas around in my head, a few things clicked with me and I realized 'holy shit, that's pretty damn cool!' For me, the ending could mean any one of the following; 1. Spoiler: click to toggle In the end, this was a good movie, to say the least. It didn't always make sense, the pace was ofen sluggish, the events were often weird, and it often didn't make sense, but I honestly enjoyed it for what it was as well as what was 'hidden' underneath it all. Good stuff! 67/10 quality. 6.5-7.5/10 entertainment. Very thought provoking (for me, at least) and interesting even if it wasn't a fun watch. |

Personally, I think it is 4. I think it's the one that is supported the best from what they said in the different interviews. |

Yeah I like that one. Any of them work though I really don't want to think of it as Number 3 since, while its the most realistic, it's a total cliché.

So I guess its a good thing I didn't watch that right after Mr. Jones like I was actually going to since it would've felt repetitive.

They're not that similar, but they have enough in common that I definitely wouldn't watch Mine Games immediately after watching Mr. Jones. |

Just watched this recently. I thought it was a rather well made found footage film. Surprisingly surreal, which can be rather hard to achieve for this sort of movie. Really it relies more an a feel and atmosphere than a linear story. The premise and execution were relatively original and I liked the lo-fi FX, just creepy set pieces and surreal imagery mostly, the scarecrows themselves are fantastic. Spoiler: click to toggle
