Yeah, I still liked it. It's pretty short, so there's a David Lynch-like build up, a body horror segment, and a section with a pretty good amount of killing for a movie that wasn't a slasher. It moves at a pretty brisk pace. I had heard about it being bloody, but I didn't really believe the hype until I saw it.

I loved this. Like Vanessa said, the score is amazing, and I really did not expect this to be as brutal as it was. Its not even a slasher, and it already beat every other slasher this year when it comes to the quality of the kills. I felt bad for
Spoiler: click to toggle
though. There were also some pretty gruesome scenes involving the lead girl just by herself that definitely made me wince. It definitely reminded me a bit of a modern day Argento film, and while I already had a feeling I'd like this movie, I liked it a lot more than I thought I would.

This was definitely one of the most...erm...hypnotizing movies I've seen this year, which is a pretty massive compliment. It was one of those that I watched with Robby but I have a feeling I might as well have watched it alone since we were so focused that we barely said anything at all.

First off, as others have mentioned, the score was amazing. Sure, it wasn't as 'woah' as You're Next's or Maniac's (remake) but it was still very impressive and was unlike most modern scores - but never felt forced at all!

The film itself definitely didn't sugarcoat things. Sure, it didn't 'go there' with the sexual aspects as much as I expected (and hoped) it would, but it still 'went there' when it came to pretty much everything else, from the suspense, to the look, to the characters, to the insanely nasty kills (not spoiling anything but the meanstreak was better than those featured in most modern SLASHER films!). Some of the characters weren't too great though and one in particular (the possibly-gay 'judge' shown in the first audition) was sadly underused. I wanted more of him, damnit! (lol)

Sarah was a pretty great character; while her arc wasn't as strong as say, Nina's in Black Swan, it was just as interesting and her actress' performance was great. Finally a 'hair puller' in a newer horror film! Her first hair-pull-freakout had Robby nudging me with a 'this is so you!' look on his face, haha. The Casting Director woman was another favorite of mine; very creepy and her voice, look, movements - everything, really - was perfect for that character. She really got under my skin. I loved that it kpt going through different subgenres. Slasher, body horror, satanic/demonic/cultish horror, suspense thriller, and so on. There was a bit of everything here, but it didn't really feel clash-y or forced so I enjoyed it. (thumbsup)

Overall, I really liked it. Not one of my favorites of the year, but still pretty damn good and yet another that I wish would've gotten a bigger/better release. (un)

7.5-ish/10 quality. 8/10 entertainment

I'm still watching stuff, but I feel like this is probably going to end up in my top 10 for 2014.

I loved the casting people, too. I felt like they were just weird enough. I think they could have easily went to far and had them be unbelievably weird, but I think they got it just right.

I definitely don't like Sarah as much as Nina, but I like her more than the main characters in Contracted, Alyce Kills, and some other movies like that. I understood why she made certain choices and how the consequences were the result of her actions. I feel like a lot of similar movies make it seem like things just happen to the protagonist, but the movie had Sarah play a really active role.

Ooh<3. If only we could get a making-of or at least more interviews. Oh well, at least we're not just getting a barebones DVD.

This is on Netflix. I think it's been on there since at least the beginning of the month, but I figure I'd mention it since it's been getting so many nominations.

I just ordered the soundtrack vinyl off the Waxwork Records official site. :) It gives you a choice between a golden colored vinyl with the Astraeus Pictures symbol, or a silver vinyl with blood spots and the Astraeus Pictures symbol. I went with the gold.

I don't actually HAVE a record player, but the LP comes with a digital download of the entire soundtrack, so I plan on downloading that immediately after this comes in the mail, and then I'll likely use the actual vinyl itself as a decorative piece.

I ended up going with the golden record as the bright gold color really brings about this feel of Hollywood, of the rich elite, the group that Sarah wants nothing more in this film than to be a part of. It just looked so much fancier than the silver with blood one, and I think it suits the meaning and particularly the ending of the film than the silver does.

I'll post pictures as soon as I get it in the mail. It should likely take two weeks or so.

Records are really durable, but I never actually listen to any of my more collectable records if I have another option.

Yeah, I don't own a record player, so I can't listen to it like that anyways, but it still comes with the digital download, and it also would make for a badass decoration for when I get an apartment or something.

My Starry Eyes album came in today. I already got the digital download, and it's glorious. So far "Talkers" is my favorite song on the album. It's from the poolside scene where everyone's tripping balls and Sarah is just like floating around in a haze.

One of the songs from the record is missing on the digital download, but it's one of my least favorites of the soundtrack, so I don't really mind too much, even if it is mildly annoying.

Here are clips from the soundtrack. My favorite song on the soundtrack is Talkers, and Collapse is the one that's missing from the digital download. In its place is a shorter song called Hallway that won't find on the vinyl.

Add this to the list of really damn good 2014 horror flicks; the fact that it's not my favorite from that year comes down more to the strength of the competition than any of this film's own weaknesses. Alex Essoe gave a phenomenal performance, the visual design and score were both outstanding, and it did not look like the cheap independent film that it actually was. It gets brutal and uncompromising, between the body horror that Sarah goes through and what she does to others by the end, all in service of the dream of fame and fortune that Hollywood sells to people. I just hope that the "Illuminati!!!111" conspiracy nuts don't discover this film and ruin it for everyone else.
