Vampires, humans and zombies used to get along in Dillford, but then something unexpected arrived and now it's humans vs. vampires vs. zombies in all-out mortal combat. It's up to three teenagers to try to get things back to "normal."

This movie was a nice surprise! Everything in it worked quite well and the humor wasn't too goofy for the most part. The only letdown was the ending, it was just too similar to a few movies in the past couple years. A solid 7.5 in my books.

^Agreed. I thought this was pretty entertaining. It was silly, but not too ridiculous. It kind of reminded me a bit of one of those 80's teen comedies with a horror-ish twist. I just wish Cerina Vincent had more than 2 minutes of screen time (un)

Watched this tonight. I was actually QUITE happy with it. I'd say it was one of my favorites of the year... Or at least one of my favorite horror-comedies of the year.

I will write a review for this tomorrow, though!

I will say right now, though, that this film was just an all-around enjoyable experience. It was almost all comedy, despite the gore and occasional graphic violence, and there is very little serious here, but I think for a zombie/vampire/alien teen comedy, it delivers. Fully.

I just watched it with Robby. He didn't seem to like it at all. I didn't like it much more than he did. (wary) I don't know. Maybe I'm just getting burned out on deliberately dumb comedies? *shrug* I'll write a review later.

Holy woah@the cast!

Cerina Vincent
Ed Westwick
Vanessa Hudgens
Joan Cusack
Denis Leary
Chris Zylka
Nicholas Braun
Pat Healy
Jeff Daniel Phillips
Beverly Randolph (TINA FROM ROTLD OMG)
Tony Gardner

O_O_O

No one too 'huge' in the Horror world but I recognize all of those people. Pretty cool even if a couple of them are probably just cameos.
It's really annoying that most of these people had barely any screentime or had cruddy roles. (wary)

Don't expect me to be as nice to this as the rest of you have been, haha.

I understand you not liking it. It's really not much of a horror film. It's really a complete teen comedy in a horror world. I like comedies, though, so it's understandable why I'd like it and you wouldn't, since you've openly admitted to getting sick of horror-comedies, but also not being a fan of comedies period. It just depends what kind of movie you like.

I agree that some of the humor in this movie wasn't successful. There are a few scenes of comedy I wish they had cut out

But for the most part, I found myself wholly enjoying the movie with a smile on my face. I admit to really liking stupid humor, though.

I thought the film did an enjoyable job of incorporating all of the horror roles into this movie. It kind of makes me wish they had kept the Kitchen Sink title, as it was pretty perfect for this kind of movie. It was a rather cheesy title, and this is a pretty cheesy comedy. I thought, at the very least, they did a good job of showing how all of these different groups: Humans, vampires, and zombies coexisted in this universe.

My only issue with the movie is how quickly everything turned violent. As soon as the aliens show up, everyone flips out. I guess it's mildly realistic that people would immediately try to find a scapegoat, but I honestly would have preferred a little more time dedicated to world-building. I wanted to see more. It was obvious that the zombies were the bottom of the social structure, and that vampires and humans are about equal, but I wanted to see more of that. I mean, the battle scenes start barely 25 minutes into the movie, and then end after about 15 minutes. They could've done more (and less) with it, and that would have made it better.

I liked all of the characters. I have always liked Nicholas Braun, and he was endearing here as the lead, and he wasn't too ridiculously derpy of a lead either. I've always had a crush on Mackenzie Davis, so I liked that they chose her for Petra. I liked the guy who played Ned. He was fun in the zombie role.

If I have any issue with the casting, it's that most of the actors are nearly 30, with the guy who plays Ned being like 33/34 when the movie was actually made.

I think my favorite in the movie, though, was Mae Whitman. She was only in the movie for a short period of time, but she was a lot of fun to watch as the sweet, friendly Jenna Zombie. I wish she had been a main character, to be honest.

Overall, I know this is a lame film, but it delivered what I figured it would: A cheesy comedy with zombies, vampires, aliens,

I don't know when or even if I'll watch it any time soon, but I definitely enjoyed it.

Grade: B/B+

So I was expecting this to be similar to Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse when it came to the violence, humor, etc. but instead it had more in common with Zombieland. And you all know how I feel about that.

It probably would've helped if more of the humor had actually worked. A lot of it was way too silly and I'm glad that Aaron mentioned the 'being alive while being eaten' bit because that went on way too long to the point of feeling like the makers were poking me in the chest saying "See? See! It's funny! It keeps going - it's funny! Trust me! It's funny - laugh! See?!" Sorry. It wasn't funny. And that goes for a lot of other things here too. Most of my laughter came from a place of 'this is so fucking stupid' than 'this is hilarious', I guess you could say.

The vampires exploded like popping waterballoons which was bizarre but it gave us some of the only bloody parts in this. This definitely needed more gore. It's an R Rated movie with zombies, vampires, aliens, werewolves, and humans clashing in one place and it's bloodless aside from a couple of scenes. I really didn't understand that. Was this meant to be PG13 and made for kids and just slapped with an R Rating because of some of the language and nudity or what? (wary)

The dialogue was funny at times but it's far from being really witty. I liked the deleted/alternate lines "Are they Spielberg aliens or Giger aliens?" and some of the others that played during the end credits. Not sure why they went with others instead. Call me dumb but I could not for the life of me spot Cerina Vincent or Beverley Randolph ANYWHERE. Chris Zylka really sucked in this as did a couple of the other people I recognized. Tis a shame. I liked the main trio though which is good enough I guess.

The main guy was genuinely likeable and dorky (of course!!) but not unbearably, stereotypically so. They played up the 'shit pants' thing too much and it just wasn't funny. It was just dumb. He was really cute and I like that he got naked more than once. Hurrah! Petra was my favorite though. Some of her stuff WAS really funny in a dry sort of way and she was also genuinely likeable. She had some of the more interesting stuff going on as well. The third person in the trio (zombie dude) was watchable and adorable in a pitiful kind of way but was my least favorite of the three. All three beat the rest of the characters though. Lorelei or whatever her name was was alright I guess. *Shrug*

This felt way longer than 93 minutes which is odd since most Horror/Comedies tend to move pretty quickly. (shock) It's not a TERRIBLE movie or anything but it just wasn't my cup of tea I guess. I laughed AT it, not WITH it just because of how absolutely STUPID most of it was. And it wasn't 'good stupid' a lot of the time either. Blah.

5/10 quality, 5.5/10 entertainment.

^ You were a LOT easier on it than I expected you to be. I guess it's at least not AS bad as Zombieland in your mind? ;)

i still really liked it in terms of a teen comedy. They perhaps shouldn't have marketed it as such a horror-comedy, though, as even the horror aspects are done almost completely for the sake of comedy.

I like the ending, though.

I'm glad they didn't overplay Nick Braun's dorkiness, though. They made him just dorky enough to be endearing, but not so dorky that it's just annoying, like a lot of movies like this where the underdog saves the universe tend to do.

I really did like it a lot, but it was my first time watching. I'll watch it again in the future and it may dwindle a little more. Who knows. Just like, perhaps, I'll actually like Deathgasm eventually. (lol that'll never happen.)

If I had reviewed this before I had a cigarette, I probably would've ranted about the flaws a bit more than I did. (chew) Don't get me wrong, some things about this were nice, but overall I didn't think it was very good (or even all that funny).

It's annoying that most of the well liked Horror movies seem to be comedies as well. This, Scouts Guide, Deathgasm, Cooties, and a few others have been gushed over by a lot of people, moreso than most straightfaced horror films.

I was disappointed by this, too. The biggest thing is that I really liked a good portion of the cast, but I didn't like the characters all that much. I didn't really start liking the main three until after they left the basement. I didn't care for any of the teen romance stuff. I don't have anything against that occasionally mixing in with my horror movies, but it generally made me like the characters less.

I didn't like the framing device. There was also some really weird editing that made me think that a lot of stuff had got cut out.

There are some really funny lines in this. I just wish I laughed more than I did. I did like the second half more. Mae Whitman was funny.

I didn't spot Cerina Vincent at all, but I didn't look at the cast list again until after I watched it.

The cast was great, and this film had so much going for it... But I really don't think I like it nearly as much as I did two weeks ago. At all. lol.

I watched this for the October Challenge, and I agree fully with your assessment. With the exception of the guy who played the lead character, this really did have a great cast. It's just that they never found a good way to use all the talent they had assembled here, since most of them only got one or two scenes before they were gone. I might've forgiven that if this had been more of a sketch comedy film that was light on plot, but the fact that it puts most of its focus on its story really hurts it. The lead character was basically a second-rate ripoff of Jim from American Pie, and his story was the least interesting out of the three protagonists, yet he had the main focus. The alien invasion storyline never really tied in much with the tension between the humans, zombies, and vampires outside of one scene early on, especially once we find out what the aliens' motive is. It might be worth a rental or Netflix just for the cast, but that's about it.

My full review is here.

I almost wish they would make a second film. This almost felt weird, like it had 'growing pains' that a show might have during its first couple of episodes or something. It's a cool concept. Just a wonky, not very good execution. Should've been better, definitely had potential. So yeah, maybe they could come out with something better.

Who knows? A sequel to this could be what Ouija: Origin Of Evil was to Ouija. (chew)
