Ignore the random sequel hatred and annoying bashing and lets just be happy we're finally getting another Pumpkinhead! :D

Wow, a remake? Wonder if it'll go theatrical. I doubt it though.

It'd be nice if it did but I doubt it too. Put a non-bashy link in the first post.

I would love for it to go to theaters simply because it'd be our first big theatrically released slasher in nearly 5 years(Not counting Texas Chainsaw and You're Next). Not to mention this could be sorta creepy if done right.

I still think we probably won't be hearing much on this for the rest of the year or next just like the proposed Poltergeist and Cujo reboots. I believe they'll happen definitely but not before 2016.

Yuck lol.
I hope this turns out good. If it goes straight to dvd, they might as well just have made it another sequel though.

Looks like this isn't dead after all.

According to Entertainment Weekly, producer Peter Block (the Saw franchise, John Carpenter’s The Ward) has purchased the remake rights to Stan Winston’s 1988 cult horror film Pumpkinhead. Nate Atkins (S. Darko, Deadly Descent: The Abominable Snowman) will provide the screenplay for the Pumpkinhead remake, which is scheduled to begin shooting early next year and is currently going out to potential directors.

“[We need] somebody who really understands why the first one is terrific, the emotional beats of ‘Is the revenge you seek worse than whatever befell you in the first place?’” said Block of his ideal director. “But it’s also somebody that wants to embrace what I think audiences really want these days — a really scary, fun thrill-ride. You get a lot of people who want to be in this genre because they see the commercial opportunities. I’m looking for a director who has a love for the genre and knows how to get those beats for the audience.”

The directorial debut of practical effects man Winston (Aliens, Jurassic Park) starred Lance Henriksen and was followed by 1994’s DTV sequel Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings, as well as two Syfy movies, Pumpkinhead: Ashes to Ashes and Pumpkinhead: Blood Feud. Block, who insists practical effects will play a big part in the production, gave a few clues as far as what to expect from the redo, which will be titled simply “Pumpkinhead.”

“There is a similarity of theme and a similarity of story. There’s a lot of Easter eggs for people who know the original — iconic shots and iconic lines that we’re going to use. But we’ve enhanced the setting, and we’ve expanded the characters somewhat, to give it a different kind of experience.”

Brad Krevoy, producer of the last three films in the franchise, was previously considering a reboot as recently as 2014. Check back for more updates as we learn more about the Pumpkinhead remake!

Fingers crossed that this comes out in 2018 because I love it when remakes come out on specific 'anniversaries' (20 years, 25 years, 30 years, and so on).

Agreed. (wary) I don't know if I should be nervous or not. Pumpkinhead isn't exactly something that's totally easy to fuck up so there's that at least. I'll have to see more of what he worked on (I have a copy of S. Darko sitting like four feet from me but I haven't watched it yet) so I can get a feel for his style. It probably helps that all four Pumpkinheads look and feel different and have their own strengths and issues when it comes to pacing and storytelling so if this is SUPER different from the original it won't be much of a big deal.

I actually think S. Darko isn't as bad as people make it sound. I would still be hesitant because he didn't understand how to go about remaking Donnie Darko. Recognizing what is good about something and trying to capture that doesn't seem to be one of his strong points.
