On a quest to step through uncharted territory and see every inch of the world, best friends Derek Lee and Clif Prowse pack their bags and set off on a trip of a lifetime.

However, a couple of days in, one of the men develops a mysterious infection that worsens and begins to spread across his body and consume his mind. A thousand miles from home, and armed with a camera, the duo desperately search for the infection’s source before it is too late.

That looks great. I was skeptical of another found footage infection movie, but I am definitely seeing this one.

Not a bad film. I like the found footage style and the humour they had in the beginning. Throughout the movie, i started to feel bad for the characters for what they're going through. The acting was good. Personally, it isn't THAT gory. But there is good amount of blood and some gross scenes. It's not my favorite movie of the year, but still enjoyable and definitely worth a watch.

Too much longer than expected to get around to this since other movies kept 'distracting' me from it, but it was definitely worth the wait. I was not expecting a certain 'thing' (

) to happen before the sixty minute mark so pulling that little 'Marion Crane move' definitely threw me off and had me totally unsure of how the last half hour or so would play out. This had little bits of Chronicle sprinkled in (I won't mention the other films this had 'bits' of since that'd spoil what the 'disease' actually is) with the superhuman elements and I thought all of that was handled pretty well despite the fact that some exercises of strength were a bit random and unnecessary.

The two leads were mostly likeable, though it took me a while to care for them and I think the main reason I liked Derek was because of all of the shit he was going through, rather than what kind of person he was. The big

was pretty awesome and felt like something from the first two Rec films. The ending was okay for the most part but I wasn't too pleased with the fact that it didn't end on a totally insane note. I really liked the scene partway through the credits with the teens and

. Pretty cool, jolting way to wrap things up and set things up for a sequel (that I honestly do not want since it probably wouldn't be better than this, despite the fact that I want to know a *little* more about Audrey).

7.5/10 quality (huge points for delivering so much with such a small amount of money). 7 or so/10 entertainment.

Overall this one was a highly enjoyable and entertaining found-footage effort. One of the better efforts within here is the fact that this one actually manages to make that technique quite enjoyable here with this one really going all-out to display the kind of frantic scenarios present here, especially along the way it goes about the first half here with the slowly-burgeoning realization of his changes. The decision to really wring out the changes over time gradually means that the sudden illness-like symptoms and behavior exhibited gradually turn into much more physically realized situations, such as the hyper-strength, speed and jumping abilities which are all realized through the first-person viewpoint so the shots of seeing him leap thirty feet in the air manage to put the action right in front of us and there's plenty to enjoy from that. When those tendencies give way to the full-on behavioral change in the second half, the fun really comes into full-effect with a series of exciting and intense action scenes based around the chasing and encounters of the police to try to apprehend him for their belief in his involvement with the crimes while he uses those vampire qualities to continually escape at high-speeds through the city streets and deep underground, resulting in frantic encounters at his hotel, the roof of a hotel complex and finally the massively fun and enjoyable brawling through the underground maze of bunkers with both the remaining police force and finally the vampire who turned him to begin with, which for once puts the found-footage aspect to good use throughout these scenes. Along with the fine gore on display, these are enough to make this worthwhile while fending off the one lone problematic area that crops up throughout here in the changes done to traditional vampire lore here. This is based on the scenes of him merely blistering when exposed to sunlight instead of instantly bursting into flames and the inability to kill himself which could've easily been accomplished by following through on the previous action quite easily. Still, these two issues don't really hold this one back all that much.
Do illiterate people get the full effect of alphabet soup?

Some people are like slinkies: not good for anything, but you can't help but laugh when one falls down the stairs.

Some small spoilers ahead:

Afflicted is a Canadian/American movie shot in the found footage style. The main concept is of a young man who has an aneurysm and with little time left to live decides to travel around the world, starting in Europe. Once there he is attacked by a woman after attending a concert. Shortly thereafter he begins exhibiting strange abilities, and violent reactions to sunlight and regular food. Eventually it is discovered that he had been bitten by a vampire.

The film is a great blend of comedy, action, suspense and terror, and it keeps the viewer riveted throughout. It has it’s fair share of gore and gross out scenes, but not to an exploitative extent. The special effects themselves are generally well conceptualized and executed. The found footage style works well for the film and is not too distracting, even for those normally opposed to this style of filmmaking.

I wish I had gotten to this before the 2014 Awards. I definitely would have nominated it in a few different categories. I am glad that I knew nothing about it by the time I watched it, because I think it was definitely better that way. The plot was a lot more interesting than I was expecting it to be. I liked that the two leads were close friends in real life, because it made their friendship believable right away. I was really invested in the two of them, and I think it helped to smooth over some of the more unbelievable moments.

The financial people that got listed toward the beginning of the credits definitely deserved to be there. It is pretty amazing that they were able to make this movie on that budget. The effects and stunt work were both amazing for the amount of money they spent on this. The locations were great, too. I'm glad that found footage movies are starting to really go for it with action scenes instead of using it as an excuse to not show things.
