Lest we forget, Abigail Breslin was only sixteen when this was filmed, so... yeah. I highly doubt it's gonna be anywhere near as explicit as I Spit on Your Grave, at least in terms of sex, for that reason alone. Chances are, going by the trailer, it's gonna be more action than anything sexual. Hit-Girl vs. I Spit on Your Grave was the vibe I got. |

^ True, lol. And IMDB doesn't even list it as Horror (I'll still see it as one until I see the film itself). I keep forgetting Abigail is that young. |

Yeah, I've heard the reputation of the original (in both cases) but have never been able to find a copy of either with a price I'd be happy to buy it for as they seem to go for $15+ on eBay, which I'd rather spend on getting four or five films for that price instead of just one film. Still, I'll get to them eventually.
That's what was bugging me about this one. Going back to the original plot put up, that definitely rings a lot more accurately now that you mentioned that one. They take her out there to rape her, but it turns out she's a skilled hunter and begins taking them out instead, which indeed screams more Hit Girl in my eyes than a rape/revenge effort. Thanks for that.

As far as being explicit, I would definitely say that this isn't going to compare to the other movies mentioned in the thread, but I don't think that equates to it being less rape-y. Abigail Breslin's character is definitely sexualized in the trailer, and the style does not look like it encourages the viewers to identify as strongly with the victim instead of the villains as the old rape-revenge movies did. I'll still be seeing this when it comes out, but I would say that the trailer is more rape-y than those movies. |

I don't see this being a rape-y movie at all. I don't see where you guys are getting that from with what's been released about it so far. The set-up is similar, but the twist to it being her able to hunt them down before they get her is the big change. I don't see them actually going through with it, so I'm totally confused as to why all the talk here is about this following up the other Rape/Revenge efforts out there. |

Are you not really into rape and revenge movies? Rape/revenge pastiches, which is what I would call this, often do not contain rape. Maybe it's one of those cases where it seems obvious if you're into the genre, The twist is a pretty standard plot (Ms. 45, The Ladies' Code, and A Gun for Jennifer are some spoiler free examples). |

I'm mainly just using 'rape/revenge' as a basic term for movies like this that are cases of male characters trying to take advantage of/abuse a female character only for her (or someone close to her) to turn the tables on the men and kill them, lol. |

Well, I need the act to actually happen for it to be called a 'Rape/Revenge' effort. Otherwise, you're leaving out a key part of the classification for calling it that. It's still a slasher and it still sounds good, but that scene in there needs to happen to quantify it as such. That's what I'm saying. |

Okay, but if everything people know about a movie includes massive references to I Spit on Your Grave and the rape scene in A Clockwork Orange, it isn't unreasonable to conclude that the movie is alluding to rape and to talk about that, even though one doesn't take place in the film. I'm not calling it a rape/revenge movie. A pastiche can end up in a different genre than the works it's imitating. |

^ Yesh. Plus, who is to say that the guys don't rape the OTHER girls they kidnap? Even if they don't show those rapes and just mention it and it doesn't end up happening because the main girl gets away before they can, that's still enough to have this film fall into that subgenre. But anyway... |

Pre-release materials mean nothing to me. It's simply name recognition/getting the name out there so I'm aware of it, but any other use doesn't appeal to me since none of it is actually part of the movie itself. I'm not watching the poster artwork once I select 'Play Movie' on the DVD's main menu screen, and I haven't seen Clockwork Orange so I don't know what that means so, like me, if you haven't seen whatever it's alluding to those inferences are completely meaningless. |

I already know that you don't care about pre-release stuff, but that doesn't mean that other people can't talk about them without having to defend themselves. The entire first trailer is a reference to A Clockwork Orange, like nearly every second of it. Unless they filmed everything that was in that trailer just for it, even though some of those scenes were also in the second trailer, it's pretty unlikely that none of those references are going to show up in the movie. Just because you don't get the references doesn't meant that other people shouldn't discuss them. |

This one with the introduction from the director. I saw people saying more negative things about it than positive, but I thought it worked okay as a teaser. I thought it was a ballsy move to have the trailer be a big reference to another movie, especially since one of the biggest criticisms against the director's photography work is that it's derivative. |

That's fine with me, I don't mind a little tip of the hat every now and then, but as I haven't seen A Clockwork Orange how am I supposed to deal with those references during the movie? It's appealing to something I have no knowledge of, yet that's not going to deter my enjoyment of the film at all as rather it's just something cool to know about it before-hand. For me, that sort of thing is like knowing I'm watching the first vampire movie from Belgium or seeing Samoa's first-ever contribution to the genre or something like that. It's a cool piece of trivia that has little value once the movie itself is actually being watched. I'm not stating you shouldn't do that, base your movie on the marketing strategy of something else to wrangle in that kind of audience or anything, but I'm not into using that to base my experience of the movie simply because of those similarities. To bring it back to this one here, granted I do see a lot of similarities here between this one and those old Rape/Revenge films of the past, but nothing about the actual movie itself leads me to think of it that way. It reads as more of a truer slasher. |

This was agonizingly boring. It's stylish with great lighting, but it would mostly work much better as a series of photographs than a film. There is no energy. It looks like a Vogue editorial that someone tried to build a movie around. It would make a good looking editorial, but it still wouldn't be an original one. The acting is a misfire. I would guess that the majority of the blame should go to the director or writer, since the tone of the acting wasn't right for most of the film. Abigail Breslin isn't suited to her pithy dialogue. As far as the fighting goes, I don't think she was helped by the very repetitive choreography. Logan Huffman is the only one that stands out as having a particularly good performance. He should really get cast in something by a better David Lynch imitator. There is no story. Nothing goes anywhere or is all that compelling. The whole thing feels a bit like a student film. I don't like Tyler Shields' photography, but it's better than this. |
