The fact that these types of films are flopping and bombing hard makes me happy. We need slashers made by people who are overlooked and then bring them to theaters. Stuff like Don't Go To The Reunion, Found, and all indie slashers that are actually great should have a fair chance if the genre that is killing the horror genre helps stop that horror subgenre from releasing into theaters. |

^ If a lot of these indie slashers hit theaters, I know a lot of their current fans wouldn't see them as appealing because they're 'mainstream' ![]() This article hit the nail on the head, pretty much. Its about time someone other than people on forums pointed out that as good as MANY of them are (I haven't seen a single Horror in theaters this year that I've really disliked), they simply aren't making much money anymore and audiences are ready for the next big thing since paranormal has been 'in' for what, five years now. Now its slasher films' turn to get another five years but with our luck, we'll stop getting paranormal films AND slashers and we'll just get 1990s style thrillers instead. Sucks that Youre Next and The Purge and Evil Dead weren't the 'big special films' they mentioned that would get slashers/human based horror/gore type films back 'in.' </3 |

If this sub-genre dies slashers may as well be coming back. Many studios think releasing slashers widely is a risk because they don't do as well as paranormal and supernatural movies. If supernatural movies stop, people will see slashers for horror flicks which means slashers will do better which means big named franchises can make more movies that can get wide releases instead of going DTV. |

There's been no variety so far this year. The last few years had at least a couple options to balance things out. I might be forgetting something, but I think The Purge: Anarchy might be the only different big release. I don't want any sub-genre to be the only horror movies coming out. |

OR Horror will just die like it pretty much did for the bulk of the 1990s. I'd rather keep getting paranormal films in theaters and slashers on DVD than neither. |
