Horror Quote Of The Moment

Welcome to Under The Morgue.

We have sections for each decade of film, from the 1910s onward, as well as sections for 10+ major franchises, close to 50 'smaller' franchises (containing five entries or less), creative writing, independent filmmaking, photography, music, Non-Horror films and TV shows, forum games, and boredom busters, and to top it all off there's an IM shoutbox at the bottom of the page for random chat. From the tame and 'kid sister friendly' to the psychological and mindbending to cheesy splatter flicks to hardcore torture-oriented horror, there's something here for everyone, so why not dive in?

What are some Horror films that are pretty triggering? Don't be a smartass and list off a million slasher titles. Its a no brainer that people get stabbed to death in those.

List off films that involve certain things that people may want to steer clear of, such as;

- Rape
- Child Abuse/Molestation
- Self Harm and Suicide
- Drug Addiction/Overdose
- Anti-Gay Behaviors/Slurs, Transphobia
- Racism/Slurs
- Terminal Illnesses
- Animals, Children, and Elderly People Being Harmed

How do we want to handle spoilers in this thread? Should we put the title under the spoiler or the trigger under the spoiler?

Would extreme, ruthless, raw, and graphic gore count as "triggering". Stuff like Vomit Gore, Martyrs, etc.?

I suppose it could be, yeah. Really not sure since I'm never effected in that way by movies. >_>

Just list the movie title and the type of content. If you want to go into specifics about the content put it in spoilers.

Ex;

Saw series - self mutilation.

I'm thinking we do divide stuff into sections

ex:

Self Harm:
Spoiler: click to toggle

Child Abuse:

Terrorism/Natural Disasters or Tragedies:
Spoiler: click to toggle

And so on.

Can't you see it? The effects of cinema violence on society?

^That does sound like a good idea. The first film I thought of had something that might be triggering in the last few minutes. I wouldn't want to spoil the film for someone that wasn't attempting to avoid triggers.

Or we can just put trigger stuff in the Topic Descriptions and the Topic Tags. That way you will see what's in the movies regarding content like rape, self-harm, homophobia, extreme gore, torture, etc. under the thread title and you will be able to find movies with those things in them easier by using topic tags.

It would be kind of a lot of work to take on that kind of project, especially since there's films on here that no one has seen. There would also be the question of what to do about triggers that would give away major plot points.

Maybe after we have a decent sized list we could compile them into a masterlist to make it easier for people to navigate, instead?

Well I for one am NOT going to be editing over 5,000 film threads to include triggers and I'm pretty sure no one else would want to take the 24+ hours it would take to do so. (wary) This thread is more than enough for it. (yes)

I prefer my method, honestly.

1. Movie title
2. Type of Trigger
3. *in spoiler tag* Details of the event

So you mean put spoiler tags in the first pages of said thread? I would gladly spend 2 hours adding trigger warnings for about 25-30 films tonight.

Dude no...not every film thread needs a trigger warning. (suicide)

Just put them here. It's fine lol. The spoiler tags, information, and so on should go HERE where its organized, easy to find, etc. (wary)

Oh. Would you mind if I put the thread URL in the title and put spoiler tags under the title listing everything?

(wary) If its all JUST in this thread, fine. Sorry but having warnings in multiple threads is a bit...dumb lol.

Just list off the triggers, content, titles, and so on here.

No offense, but that's kind of stupid and time consuming (d)

Way to complicate things, guys!

Nah, I'd have to think about this one. There isn't much that affects me in horror films. I can think of a few that would certainly bother some, but I think it's all been covered. Maybe I'll try to come up with some of the more disturbing scenes I've witnessed.

Here's an example of what I'm saying:

ReGOREgitated Sacrifice (2008)
TRIGGER WARNINGS: Incest, rape, self-harm, vomiting, bulimia, sexual violence, and excessive gore.

"HIGHLIGHTS" (SPOILERS):

^ What Jared said lol. That's why I made this thread. If people are concerned about triggers in films, they can just come to this thread, browse/read through it and so on, rather than specifically seek out multiple movie threads which would take up more of THEIR time as well as mine. :P

I just don't see a point in making 'trigger warnings' for threads like 'Slaughtered Vomit Dolls' etc. If they already didn't know what they were getting into with that, then they're a bit slow, IJS.

I also don't like Derek's idea, but I don't know about this format. I feel like it would be better to go with AJ's suggestion. It works okay with the examples so far, but I don't know that I would want to risk spoiling myself every time I go into the thread to add something. With AJ's method, the people checking for things that trigger them might see the same movies listed multiple times, but everyone wouldn't have to worry about getting spoiled.

Without giving away the name of the movie, an abortion was the motivation for a murder. The audience do not find out that one of the characters had an abortion until the very end of the film:

Movie Title-Abortion

vs.

Abortion
