This was good. I didn't really think it was as difficult to understand as people were making it out to be. It's ambiguous, but it's more than satisfying enough, especially if you're prepared not to take what you're seeing on the screen literally. Jake Gyllenhaal is easily the best thing about the movie. He plays both characters well. There was an obvious difference between them in their voice and the way they carried themselves. I wasn't thrilled with how the movie looked. It was way too dark. I was watching the blu-ray with my screen's brightness turned up all the way, but I could still barely see what was going on in some scenes. I did really love the 70's styled end credits. I am somewhat annoyed that I didn't see anything that mentioned that it was based on a novel by José Saramago, because I would have read it first, even if it doesn't seem like that close of adaptation. |
