A bit of breaking news out of the Screen Gems panel today which welcomed Sam Raimi back to Comic-Con. Raimi revealed to the audience that he’s working with his brother and Bruce Campbell to bring Evil Dead to the small screen.

Yes, an Evil Dead television series.

So, add this to the countless other Evil Dead sequel/sequel to the remake news we’ve been carrying since the remake hit the screen. No other details to share other than that, so stay tuned for more!

So, would I be alone in saying that this is the absolute best horror tv show that's out recently? (Mainly talking about Scream Queens, Scream, AHS).

No. I liked season 3 of Hannibal more, but it easily beats those three. I'd put it ahead of TWD and Fear TWD, too.

I still haven't finished the first season. Can't say I'm in a hurry to do so, though. Love Bruce, but by episode three it had already started grating on me.

It didn't have that Evil Dead vibe to me. One thing that worried me when it was first announced was, with it being a series, it was going to have to do a lot of expanding of the mythology for content. But as we've seen time and again from any number of horror series, when attempting to expand mythology, the series too frequently becomes muddled, and winds up going off the rails. Friday the 13th, Halloween, Elm Street, and even TV stuff like True Blood -- the further they went on, the more desperate they struggled for content, and the more desperately they struggled, the more eye-rolling the storylines became. Not to mention Evil Dead was already an over-the-top series; all they can really do, besides expand the mythology, is attempt to top themselves in the gore department, but after you've seen one or two deadites exploding across the screen... But the same can be said for characters getting buckets of gore splashed in their faces, and Ash launching himself into the air to catch his chainsaw on his stump. Funny the first couple times, but when it happens in every episode...

Anyway. All that said, I actually just logged back on to post that I said screw it and went ahead and finished season 1. And as it turns out, my concerns as stated above were justified. By the final episode, they'd already ret-conned most of the mythology as established in previous films. And, I don't know if you remember, but as I've mentioned a few times in other discussions, I'm not a fan of ret-conning. I especially don't like it when it's the original creators doing it.

Campbell's still fun in the lead, though, I'll give it that. But I was never concerned about him; Bruce is Bruce, and you can always count on him to deliver the goods. Even if a lot of the wisecracks the writers give him are real groaners.

Anyway, I've now seen the entire first season; can't say I didn't give it a chance. I'll just stick with the original trilogy.

I'm kind of on the fence about the behind the scenes drama.
Spoiler: click to toggle

But if the old showrunner loved the morgue scene, I am 100% with the producer on that one.

Season 1 and Season 2 are both on Netflix now. I know I was a little underwhelmed by the first season, but since it's on Netflix I might as well give the second season a try, no?

I like that the show keeps getting better at pairing Ash up with women that are at least somewhat close to his age. It isn't out of character for him to be flirting with young women, but the bigger roles keep going to women that are at least in their 40s.

^I know.

As much as I wasn't a fan of the first season, I was more than willing to stick with it. At least it's on Netflix right now. Hopefully the third season will be put on there. I still have to check out the second season.

Who knows. Maybe Sam Raimi will want to direct another Evil Dead movie from this combining the 2013 remake and his original.
