The news is already getting fired up on the upcoming 2016 President election in November of 2016! and almost everybody wants Hillary Clinton to make a run for the white house, mainly because she's a Democrat and nobody wants to see a Republican for President again, and who else will be running to the white house next year?

Impractical Jokers is on. I don't have anything reassuring to say. I'm already physically sick over this. I have never been so grateful that I got out of politics than I am right now. I might have to turn into one of those people that only pay attention when they're talking about an election until 2020. I cried the last two presidential election nights, and my guy won. |

Ive been talking to quite a few people about it. Already I've had no less than twenty people tell me that they're already at a point where they're feeling uncomfortable and feeling like they should be afraid to hold their partner's hand in public. I've also seen the words "spic" and "wetback" casually thrown at three friends of mine in the last six hours alone. And I was accused of "not being a man" and not "fighting for my country" and doing nothing but "bitch and moan." FUCK soldiers/veterans with that mentality. I couldn't join the military even if I wanted to because of my medical conditions but lord knows that these fools don't understand that.

Since I saw the final results twenty minutes ago, I've been thinking of the friends I lost in the service. My mind went directly to them, first thing. What would they think about this? Would they have fought so bravely, would they have kept their oath to defend our rights if they knew THIS is what would become of the country they fought for? It breaks my heart. Truly. I've not cried in years, but this... I am ashamed of our country, disappointed, embarrassed, but more than any of that, I'm angry. Very, very fucking angry. |

Lon, I'm in a similar boat. Ive been thinking about the people in my family (and group of friends) who have served - sometimes died - and what they'd think about this. Same goes for all of my relatives who came over from Germany, France, and so on decades ago. This is not the sort of thing they'd want to see, dramatic as this may sound. I've actually cried about this. Fuckin' hell. And of course the Trump supporters are gloating and saying more hateful shit. I've had over 30 people delete me from Facebook and I've gotten rid of just as many. No time for the bull. |

I keep thinking about my friend Reinhardt. We actually lost him very early on, the first week of basic training. Suicide. It was harder than he expected, he couldn't imagine suffering through the next thirteen weeks, so he hanged himself behind the barracks, from a pull-up bar. Imagine that -- eighteen years old, and feeling that this new world you've found yourself in and the prospect of the difficulty it's going to bring, however briefly, simply seems to difficult to have to face. I think that's what the next few months are going to be like for our country. I expect at some point in the next few months people who voted for Trump are going to experience a moment of clarity, something's going to click in their brains and it's going to hit them -- "Uh-oh...what have we gotten ourselves into? This isn't funny anymore." |

As someone who wanted to join the Air Force at one point and as someone who comes from a large family of veterans, I have no problem saying this at this moment: FUCK America. We deserve whatever bombs fly our way. Fuck this country and fuck the majority of the people in it. We don't deserve kindness or forgiveness for whatever messed up things we as a nation continue doing over the next 4-8+ years. |

I've dissociated, and I'm almost relieved. I don't know how long I can maintain a bubble around myself where the election can seem like something that isn't real and causes me to feel no emotions, but I don't exactly mind the break for however long it lasts. |

I'm sad for my country, and for my friends and family who voted Trump. I do not envy them the morning they wake up and realize just how tragic a mistake they've made. And trust me, that day will most definitely come, just as it did for everyone who voted George W. his second time around. But let's be clear. This isn't a victory for Trump. He didn't "win" anything. There are approximately 230 million registered voters in the US. Of those, only about 160 million or so actually voted. Nearly half of our voting population simply didn't bother, because their choices were so abysmal. So no, Trump didn't "win." It's not a win when the home team throws the game. All Trump has done is raked benefit from our apathy. We, as a country, are the ones who lost. |

And a reminder: Trump, like George W. Bush in 2000, lost the popular vote. It was by a razor-thin margin, yes, but at the end of the day, he got elected with fewer votes than his opponent did. I'm not moving to Canada. I'm not even moving to California to support #Calexit. No, starting tonight, I'm doing something I should've done the moment I moved here: I am getting active in the Broward County Democratic Party. There is no shortage of people and organizations here who rallied against Trump, and I've already checked the local party's calendar for when they're meeting. One of them, the Dolphin Democratic Caucus, is meeting tonight. The Greater Fort Lauderdale Democratic Club is meeting tomorrow, and the Broward Young Democrats on Monday. If I may quote Chris Hargensen, this isn't over. This isn't even in the same area code as over. |

The saddest truth of all is that when it comes right down to it, our votes really don't count for much. Yes, Clinton won the popular vote. Just barely, but still. Yet the deciding factor is the electoral college. I'll break it down for those of you unfamiliar with what the electoral college's job is. In the basest, most simplistic of terms, the electoral college is a process wherein state party officials are afforded a higher level of vote, just in case they feel we citizens might not always be as educated on the issues as we should be to make such an important decision, and to prevent any given state from naming a clear, single, chosen presidential candidate to represent that state. Sometimes the electoral college votes the same as the state (such as Hilary winning New York on both popular and electoral college votes). Other times, even if a candidate wins a state's popular vote, their opponent can claim victory of that state if they're given the electoral vote. In the case of an electoral college tie, the deciding vote goes to the House of Representatives -- which is traditionally Republican, and they will always vote party over candidate. So the vote is literally already stacked against straight democracy from the get-go. Essentially, the electoral college is the government's way of saying "We don't trust you to vote responsibly, so we're going to vote for you." The proof: Trump was announced winner the instant he got the majority of electoral votes. This was hours before the final popular vote results were delivered. In fact, as I write this, there are still a small handful of states whose votes have yet to be tallied. Ironically, most of those state lean democratic, and their votes are expected to be in favor of Clinton. But even if they are for Clinton, and even if they do give her a larger lead in the popular vote over Trump, they're not going to matter, because the electoral college has already decided. The message to the American people: When it comes right down to it, your vote doesn't mean shit. |
