The news is already getting fired up on the upcoming 2016 President election in November of 2016! and almost everybody wants Hillary Clinton to make a run for the white house, mainly because she's a Democrat and nobody wants to see a Republican for President again, and who else will be running to the white house next year? (bullshit) (stupid)

Well, I done fucked up. In my grief, I asked one of the more...religious of my relatives to stop thanking God for answering their prayers and allowing Trump to win. God had nothing to do with it, we did this to ourselves, do you really think God would endorse a racist, sexist, greedy egotist who has sworn to kick out people of different color and beliefs, etc.

Man, am I catching hell now. Shame on me for having forgotten, even if only for a brief moment, that there is no rationalizing with the irrational.

FWIW, I just overheard my brother's theory. He thinks that Trump, for all his talk of being against the Republican establishment, is actually their pawn, a Trojan horse to get an establishment Republican like Mike Pence into the White House. He seriously thinks that Trump is going to resign before or shortly after his inauguration and allow Pence to take over.

And a reminder: Trump, like George W. Bush in 2000, lost the popular vote. It was by a razor-thin margin, yes, but at the end of the day, he got elected with fewer votes than his opponent did.

I'm not moving to Canada. I'm not even moving to California to support #Calexit. No, starting tonight, I'm doing something I should've done the moment I moved here: I am getting active in the Broward County Democratic Party. There is no shortage of people and organizations here who rallied against Trump, and I've already checked the local party's calendar for when they're meeting. One of them, the Dolphin Democratic Caucus, is meeting tonight. The Greater Fort Lauderdale Democratic Club is meeting tomorrow, and the Broward Young Democrats on Monday.

If I may quote Chris Hargensen, this isn't over. This isn't even in the same area code as over.
Participating in local political groups can be very fun. I stepped away from it a bit this year. Pennsylvania is pretty corrupt on the local level, and it was bad for my stress level. You meet really great people doing it, though.

OR you meet really terrible ones. Thankfully the activists in my area seem to be calming down at least a little bit and, aside from a small handful of them, haven't been throwing out constant attacks at those who support Hillary. They sort of realize at this point that there are bigger things to worry about than the person who LOST the election.

I went to a peaceful protest/demonstration in my area earlier and passed out bottles of water to people. I didn't speak though. Maybe I will at the next one. I met some pretty cool people there and ate some good Mexican food. There were close to 100 people there altogether and we ended up on the news. There was one guy there who was so fuckin' GORGEOUS that I could hardly look at him and I ended up dropping my lighter when he needed one.

Oops. <_>

Hate crimes rose after Brexit, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if the same thing happened in the United States.

Honestly, I saw this coming. He's already walking back all of his populism and letting the old party hacks run his economic policy. Who was it in his campaign who said that Pence would be running domestic and foreign policy (i.e. everything), and that Trump's job would be "making America great again"?

One thing's certain, though: everybody who voted for him out of genuine economic grievance (as opposed to just plain bigotry) is gonna be joining those protests in a heartbeat once he fails to deliver -- and believe me, looking at his transition team, he will fail. He's either gonna roll over for McConnell, Ryan, and Pence, in which case we get a repeat of the Bush administration and the malaise will continue, or he's gonna be fighting with them, in which case nothing will get done and the malaise will continue. He'll basically be a bizarro Jimmy Carter, one whose personality flaws are at the opposite end of the scale (Carter was too decent a person to handle Washington, Trump too much of an asshole) but which will have precisely the same effect on his ability to do anything.

Every day and every new item of news on the motherfucker is a new low. I've spent the last month straight shaking my head in disbelief. On the plus side, all this head shaking has resulted in me having a neck like Lou Ferrigno.

But don't blame the people who voted for him. After all, Trump lost the popular vote. I didn't vote for Clinton myself, but she should be our president elect because she plainly and simply won the most votes. But no, the electoral college fucked it all up.

That's what you tell people who voted for Trump -- that Trump won because the government intervened via the electoral college, which in effect rendered even their pro-Trump vote null and void. This isn't a cause to celebrate, it's a cause to demand critical change in our electoral policies. It's not a democracy if when it comes right down to it, the government itself can ignore your vote in favor of its own. All of us, regardless of who you voted for, need to be concerned about this.

I'll be honest. One of the perks of being a hermit and only not being within a foot of my graduate thesis when I'm showering or at work is that I have had no idea what has been going on in the world since Thanksgiving. If someone tries to start a conversation about it with me, I am a pretty good at democratic political theory, and I am under enough stress that I don't feel bad about talking about nerdy shit like Dahl, Dworkin, or Downs until they go away.

I've surprisingly not had a lot of political debates with people. I think a lot of Trump supporters (especially the LGBT ones I know) are starting to realize that maaaaybe this isn't a good thing for them after all. His cabinet is one big fat 'what the fuck'. Even some people who support Trump are sort of 'meh' about the electoral college's decision but there's still many that are in denial, saying Hillary did NOT receive the most votes and defending it all by saying it's good that California and a couple other states don't hold all the power (I can understand that but I'm still a believer that the candidate with the most votes should be the one elected, plain and simple).

If that's true, it doesn't surprise me. Not because it's Trump, but because that's the kind of behavior I'd expect from anyone who has more money than God and thinks that because they do, they're entitled to entertain every passing whim or deviancy they can imagine.

He reminds me of a guy I went through basic training with. Very rich family, he joined more or less as a lark, I guess he'd grown bored with his pampered life and thought he could come right in and master being a soldier. I remember that first night at the reception center, a barracks full of kids from Kentucky and Ohio and Indiana, guys who joined because they believed in it, or because they were poor and it was their only option, or because they wanted to make men of themselves -- and this guy's walking through, just pissing all over them, talking shit like the self-entitled, spoiled rotten brat that he was. We had to put up with that shit for the whole five days we were at the reception center.

Then came the day we moved on to our basic training units, and he learned quick, fast and in a hurry just what he'd really gotten himself into. He tried pulling that better-than-you shit on our assistant DS and got a fist in the gut for it. By the end of that first week, he was spending his nights curled up in his bunk crying. No bullshit. Mr. Rich Kid showed himself to be nothing more than a punk ass bitch.

I expect the same from Trump once he officially takes office. All his bravado, all his arrogance, his sense of self-entitlement...it's going to blow up in his face when he realizes the true weight of what he's gotten himself into.

Unfortunatetly, it's us, the citizens who are going to spend our nights curled up in bed crying because of it.
