![]() A zombie outbreak has fallen upon the land in this reimagining of Jane Austen’s classic tale of the tangled relationships between lovers from different social classes in 19th century England. Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet (James) is a master of martial arts and weaponry, and the handsome Mr. Darcy (Riley) is a fierce zombie killer, yet the epitome of upper class prejudice. As the zombie outbreak intensifies, they must swallow their pride and join forces on the blood-soaked battlefield in order to conquer the undead once and for all. Spoiler: click to toggle

I totally expected to hate this just because zombies are so over done, but the trailer was actually beautiful and the concept is pretty awesome. I definitely plan on seeing this in theaters. I actually loved AL:VH

I am looking SO forward to this. Everyone is being annoying about it, though. I keep asking people to see it with me, and they're like "do you remember how shitty Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter was?" Bitch, this is a totally different movie. And the trailer is beautifully-made and sexy. It's clear that the film will be a badass action-horror film while still keeping the pro-feminist-in-a-Victorian-era ideals that Jane Austen imbued into her original classic. As a fan of zombies and a fan of Jane Austen, I can't wait for this film. At all. It looks so darn cool. |

So far, the reviews I've read have been surprisingly not terrible. Granted, there's only five reviews in on Rotten Tomatoes, but I expected critics to absolutely hate this. The horror critics especially seem to have liked it.

Worldwide: $6,093,474 Okay, Star Wars needs to FUCK OFF already because I've noticed that even the really good (The Boy, The Hateful Eight) movies have been making not-much-more than the average/slightly above average (The Forest, The Fifth Wave, etc) and even the shitty ones (I haven't seen any yet but I'm sure there's been some) movies released over the last fifty-odd days. Meanwhile, Star Wars is still making millions each day. Gooooo awaaaaaaaay. ![]() I'm probably seeing this tomorrow. |

So Robby and I saw this a few days ago and there was only one other person in the theater, lol. I'm kind of surprised that this is doing so poorly. Wasn't the book well received for the most part? Anyway, this was a bit more serious and not as 'dumb' as I thought it'd be. I kind of wish it had a bit more action than it had but I didn't really mind. If you haven't read the book, you should probably know going into this that it's not a parody of Pride And Prejudice or a super crazy, bloody thing. For the most part, it's just the Pride And Prejudice story told against a zombie outbreak backdrop (and for the most part, the outbreak has been 'controlled' for a while, which is why I'm interested in a prequel or something that probably WOULD be a bit more action-y). It's a little slow paced at times but it works. There's still a lot going on in this (and the dance attack sequence is probably my favorite) and the characters were all pretty interesting. I do wish that a couple more of the sisters had more to do since, for the most part, it just focuses on two of them. Of course, they were the most likeable of the sisters (Jane and Elizabeth) but I still wanted more of the others. Elizabeth was a pretty strong lead that I'm sure a lot of people will find themselves pretty attached to. Jane is the lesser of the two but still has a fair amount to work with and is involved in some of the more interesting of the subplots. I didn't really care for their mother but she was totally entertaining (and I didn't HATE her even though she wasn't meant to be all that likeable and was partially responsible for some of the film's conflicts). The father was a bit more likeable but not as present. Darcy was a bit of a prick and it took me well over an hour to even start liking him a little bit but I didn't really mind. He was still a better character than Wickham who was constantly suspicious and not really all that ideal even before his actual motives were revealed. Bingley was just...hot. Like really, really hot. I want to see Douglas Booth in more Horror movies because he's pretty much perfect looking but for now I'll just settle on the 2013 Romeo And Juliet (kidding, I won't watch that). The action scenes are mostly well done, though a bit too brief. Only a couple of them lasted as long as they should have. Others just came and went but none of the scenes were poorly staged or stupid. There weren't as many gags involving the zombies as I expected. I expected them to either make fun of the zombies like so many zombie films do nowadays or just have them be a giant swarm of faceless 'creatures' like they were in World War Z. This was far from being a 'traditional' zombie film but it was neither of THOSE things so that was nice. It could've used a bit more blood, I guess, but this was PG-13 so I knew going into it that it'd be a bit watered down. While I appreciate what this, and the book, were going for, I do wish a couple more attacks, kills, etc. had been thrown in. They probably could've done so without fucking up the general Pride And Prejudice story. Robby didn't like this much at all but that's mostly because he can't stand Pride And Prejudice in general. He thought it was a mostly well done movie. Just not his cup of tea because of the source material, which is understandable. I'm still going to drag him to see Sense And Sensibility And Sea Monsters if that's ever a movie though. The ending left things open for a sequel and I think there IS a sequel to the book so that's good. The fact that this hasn't even made half its budget back yet has me feeling like the sequel won't happen so maybe I'll just have to stick to the prequel/sequel books. Sucks. There's really not too much more to say about this. If you're familiar with the book, you know what you're going to get. If you're familiar with Pride And Prejudice, you know what you're going to get - that story but with slight tweaks and some zombies. One scene did make me jump (like "ACK WTF" jump) so I have to give them credit there. It was actually more effective in the jumpscare department than a lot of straightforward Horror movies I've seen. So if you like Pride And Prejudice or Pride And Prejudice And Zombies or similar works, see this, but if you hate both and you like your zombie movies 'normal', chances are you'll be disappointed like Robby was. I thought it was pretty good but it's probably only my 4th favorite or so of the 5 movies I've seen in theaters so far. That's not saying it's a poor film AT ALL. It's just hard competing with the likes of The Boy and The Hateful Eight. ![]() 6.5/10 quality, 6-ish/10 entertainment. |

I take it I'm the only one who has seen this and the only one who WILL see it in theaters? Can't say I'm surprised. After all, it's only made $14,253,029 WORLDWIDE! I'm still so surprised that this bombed sooo badly, lol. |

I'm angry. I was making plans to go see it. And I was wanting to see it this week, as this is the week I was finally free to go do whatever I wanted (whereas I was busy with work and shit the past two weeks and needed to focus on that). This film was marketed so heavily and nonstop that I just assumed (like everyone else, including you, I'm sure) that it would be a big hit. And now it's bombed and not even at the dollar theater, and I'm sad and angry. I'll just wait for the DVD and then have a viewing party with alcohol and pie or something. |

Plus this already had three fanbases it catered to - fans of the book, fans of Pride And Prejudice in general, and fans of zombies in general. So it's bizarre that it's the lowest grossing wide released horror film of the last several months. |
