One of my favorite horror movies from last decade. <3 Bradley Cooper gave a terrific performance and it proved he needs to return to the genre for medium or big roles. This film is also gory as hell and easily one the bloodiest and meanest slasher from the late 2000s. Such a great movie. 9/10

Bloody? Yes. Gory? Yes. THE meanest? Lolno. Memorable? Not really. I liked it at the time but quickly forgot about it after. Its definitely something I plan on rewatching sometime but it wasn't as great as I heard it'd be and it felt like it was missing something.

Well not THE meanest but one of them. You keep putting words in my mouth when I try to word things. ![]() You should see it again. I also felt like I'm the only one who liked the CGI. Granted it looked weird but for the shots (mainly the gun one in my avatar) gave it this cool feel and if it was all practical (minus some of the blood that looked really great) it wouldn't of had the same impact. |

I *loved* this. Empty subways + Vinnie Jones = very scary. Kitamura's visual sense is fantastic and I love the CG effects. And you get severed head cam! |

While I can now see why people LIKE this I don't see how its one of the best recent slashers. Hell, it STOPPED being a slasher about 40 minutes in (with an hour to go). I can't stand when films do what this one did. It packed ALL BUT THREE of the kills into the first act and the next 40 minutes (until the 'big' finale) were just 'investigation' hoopla. Yes, it was wellshot. Yes, the kills we did get were *mostly* AWESOME. Yes, Mahogany was a great villain (though the ending and explanation kind of messed up his character). Yes, the story was interesting. But this had some shit pacing, I'm sorry to say. They blew their load too early in the kills/gore department. They fucked up the story in the last ten minutes. It would've been better if Spoiler: click to toggle And don't even get me started on the Spoiler: click to toggle Its a solid, beautifully shot, atmospheric, and at times insanely gory movie but the story took a nosedive with a quickness and all of the hyped scenes are before the halfway mark. What ever happened to 'saving the best for last?' Tsk tsk. 7/10 quality. 6/10 entertainment. |

But that's how the original story is. His job is to provide meat for the ancient creatures. I'm glad it's not a slasher, cos I mostly hate them. |

Nah it is a slasher (or at least it tried to be and was marketed as one). And sure, that may be how the original story was but that doesn't stop that whole 'twist' from being stupid to me.

I don't think it would have been nearly as interesting if it was just a meat industry thing. Feels like something I've seen before. |

Well...pretty much EVERYTHING has been done before (even the final twist here, I'm sure). If you think about it, nothing is really original anymore. I just thought the ending here was super random, didn't fit well with the rest of the film, and took away from it. |

I liked it, though I agree that there should have been more kills spread out through the rest of the movie |

I watched this and read the short story it was based on as well. Liked both very much. Watched it mainly for my big man crush on Bradley Cooper and wasn't disappointed. It had one of the most thrilling finales of modern horror, I'd say. |

This one here was decent enough but was still massively disappointing. When this one works, there's some really fun times here regarding the really good stalking going on on-board the trains which really are quite fun and worthwhile. Due to the inherent viciousness and brutality on display, there's a great amount of fun here watching him take out the first victim along in the car that gets stumbled upon by the on-looker in the other car, the sudden shock his creeping up on the lone girl after he rescues her from the thugs earlier, an incredibly vicious and shocking encounter with a couple later on that really showcases the brutality quite clearly in some utterly frantic moments and a later scuffle between him and a citizen on-board makes for a rather strong series of scenes aboard the train, and is also helped along nicely by the sterling brawl at the end which really goes beyond these earlier scenes on it's own to sow them engaged in a rousing, energetic set-piece where both sides are wailing on each other in brutal, bloody action. It's a great scene that leads nicely into the true finale where they discover the true nature of the killer's motives as the introduction to the creatures and the secret society makes for another startling point of the film, and together gives this a strong ending overall. There's also the fact that this one does feature some other good work outside the train as it manages to feature several intriguing and chilling scenes where he encounters the butcher at the meat-packing plant and is drawn into a rather tense foot-chase throughout it does give this a solid and rather enjoyable finale. Alongside the wonderfully gory and graphic bloodshed here from the brutal kills, these here are give this one enough to really overcome the few flaws here. The biggest issue here is the fact that there's such a wholly underwhelming and ridiculous amount of CGI featured here that it affects the film as a whole here by simply being way too crude and simply becomes way too distracting with the rest of their scenes by coming across as so blatantly fake. Not only is this used for the blood and gore on display but also for the exterior shots of the train traveling through the tunnel, and as this is accomplished for nearly every sequence here there's plenty of times to showcase the truly terrible work. As well, there's also the rather slight issue of this one having quite the confusing and troubling storyline with a lot of elements that make no sense at all, ranging from the inability to understand why he was abducted and then released, his later freak-out on his friends or the biggest mystery which is the explanation for the society at the end, which makes no mention beforehand and feels like an afterthought since there's nothing about them or what they do other than tend to the strange creatures so they're apart of the mysteries surrounding this one. These here are what hold this down. |
