Very sad news as it appears that Marilyn Burns, who played Sally Hardesty in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, has passed away at age 65. We send our condolences to her family and friends.

That is really sad to hear. She always seemed like a really amazing woman in her interviews. Even if she had never been cast in Texas Chain Saw Massacre, she would still be one of my favorite scream queens for her enthusiastic attitude.

I always wished she's been in more Horror. I think aside from TCM 1, Next Generation and 3D, the only other Horror film she was in was Eaten Alive and maybe one or two others. Could be wrong though. Still, this is pretty upsetting. It's good that she was around long enough to see that so many Horror fans loved her (which sadly, isn't the case for a lot of other people who were in classic Horror films). Rest In Peace. :/

Marilyn Burns, one of the original “scream queens” who starred in Tobe Hooper’s original 1974 “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” died Tuesday in Texas. She was 65 and was found dead in her home near Houston.

“Texas Chainsaw” was her first lead role; in it she played teenager Sally Hardesty, who goes with her brother and friends to the cemetery where her grandfather is buried and ends up as the only survivor of an encounter with the insane family led by chainsaw-wielding Leatherface.

Burns was born in Erie, Penn., raised in Texas and had small parts in films including Robert Altman’s “Brewster McCloud” while she was still in high school, and George Roy Hill’s “The Great Waldo Pepper.”

But she was most known for horror films including Hooper’s 1977 “Eaten Alive,” about an insane hotel proprietor who feeds his guests to his pet alligator. Among her other films were “Kiss Daddy Goodbye” and “Future-Kill.”

In 1976, she appeared in TV movie “Helter Skelter” as Charles Manson follower Linda Kasabian. She had a cameo in “Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation” and was seen in her original role in archival footage in “Texas Chainsaw 3D.”

She talked to Terror Trap in 2004 about her experience shooting the gruesome “Chainsaw”: “Afterwards, I was just so grateful it was over. I probably was the happiest girl alive. During it, I was 100% focused and I probably wasn’t a joy to be around. It was an interesting shoot for sure.”

I thought this was just a rumor, but apparently it's true. RIP Sally/Verna

She probably screamed herself to death. /gallows humor

Her performance in a low budget horror flick was fucking tops. She brought so much emotion and realism to one of the grittiest films I've ever seen. She rivals Hansen's performance and certainly earned every fucking penny she made from her salary and the series. RIP for a breakout performer.

Well there are many low budget movie actors and actresses that are really good.

That said it's rare to come across one as good as Marilyn. (coffee)

It was kind of sad listening to the TC3D cast commentary (Marilyn, Gunnar, Bill, John) earlier. :(
