While this is no The Towering Inferno or The Poseidon Adventure, it's pretty damn good. Despite a somewhat slow start, I was never bored. Why? Two reasons.

1. They made it unclear WHEN the big earthquake was going to happen and provided enough 'false alarms' and minor but deadly occurences to keep me on edge and expecting it to happen at any moment.

2. The character drama was handled very well; a great blend of lighthearted moments (lol, the random drunk guy!) and serious situations. I really liked the storyline that included Stewart, Remy, Denise, and Denise's son. I kept hoping it'd end differently than it did.

Remy was definitely one of my favorites. Stone cold bitch who bribed her husband with jobs, faked suicide, was always judging others and making nasty comments. You name it, she did it! (lol) Even with the treacherous behavior, I still felt pretty bad for her when she experienced personal losses of her own and I didn't want to see her go (even if she deserved all-things-bad, haha). Denise was adorable and very fun to watch. I was scared for her once the shit hit the fan but she had an "everything will be alright for her since she's so likeable" thing going on. Barbara was pretty adorable as well but suffered from "least major of the major characters" syndrome in that she was likeable enough but sadly didn't have THAT much to do

Remy's father was interesting; going from boring businessman to stuck up douche to selfless borderline-hero over the course of the movie. It was nice to watch, actually. I LOVED Lou. As always, George Kennedy delivered; funny, heroic at times, and very memorable! Rosa was so cute too! She was another one I was really scared for especially during the surpisingly dead-serious and violent "Jody scenario" which leads me to believe he was NOT actually gay. (shock)

The earthquake scenes themselves were terrific and the effects were great aside from one truly embarrassing and borderline scene ruining shot involving an elevator. Seriously;

Are those cartoon splats supposed to be blood?! LMFAOOOO!

Aside from that 2 second shot and some pointless surviving characters (and pointless characters, period) I loved this<3.

7/10 quality. 7.5-8/10 entertainment.
