An epic tale about a group of whale watchers, whose ship breaks down and they get picked up by a whale fisher vessel. The Fishbillies on the vessel has just gone bust, and everything goes out of control.

I might watch it one day, but I just didn't get that enthusiastic when I first heard about it.

I just noticed Varsity Blood totally ripped off that first poster.

Ooh, an Icelandic horror title. I'm kind of interested now just for that.

Can't you see it? The effects of cinema violence on society?

Blind bought this because of the title alone, lol. I saw it on GlobalTestmarket randomly but decided to get it from Ebay instead. I was pleasantly surprised by it.

We had American, Icelandic, French, Korean, German, British etc characters which brought a great amount of diversity to this and unsurprisingly enough, they featured several different languages (thank GOD this wasn't one of those Americanized films where all of the foreign characters are randomly speaking the same language - something which doesn't always happen in real life when characters from different countries are all in the same place). The characters were very entertaining, likeable and hatable (sometimes both!) and there were plenty of weird, well done moments (such as a character singing softly to the group as one character slowly dies in front of them all - I definitely wasn't expecting a mildly emotional scene like that in this otherwise fun little slasher and it was definitely welcome).

The pacing was iffy at first, with not much happening for the first half hour but once they got to the main location (after three characters were taken out of the picture) it got INSANE right away, with many characters dying suddenly and nastily. The gore was pretty awesome and there was one triple kill (murder, accident, suicide combo!!!) that had me close to clapping. WE NEED MORE KILLSTREAKS LIKE THIS ONE HAD! This had a couple of cases similar to the 'chainsaw, 'heart attack', bus flip, zombie attack combo' scene in the Dawn Of The Dead remake and I loved it all. :P

Some of the characters REALLY pissed me off though but at the same time it was really great seeng people react realistically. After all, not EVERYONE is going to band together in a nasty situation, even if they should. Some will split from the group, throw eachother under the bus, and try to save themselves while either ignoring, sacrificing or avoiding others.

The ending did leave bit to be desired and I was really annoyed that two characters outlived one of the best ones but I was VERY happy with who the last one standing was<3.

I definitely recommend this one and it was one of the most surprisingly fun movies I've seen these last couple of months<3. And where else will you see Gunnar Hansen, a French drunk, an Asian tourguide-turned-badass, a gay lead (!), a trio of funny old ladies, a crazed family, a chilly ship setting, and a 12+ bodycount all in one place? ;)

6/10 quality. 8.5/10 entertainment.

Overall, I wouldn't say it's all that bad, and it definitely has it's good moments, including the initial sweep of the boat where they take over, as it's pretty creative and unexpected, making for a pretty nifty sequence, the gore is definitely good enough when we get to see it as far too often they attack with some object that forces the victim out of the camera's eye-view and then we turn to see the aftermath, at least giving us something but the majority of the time, it's not really much of anything good. Unfortunately, the plot makes very little sense or features way too much filler in a plot not made to be stretched out. Why'd we spend ten minutes in the opening music club when they're not important to the plot, no one we met there is involved in the rest of the film or why we've been wasting that time to start with? Even more puzzling is why they're going out to kill them, as the answer isn't given and overall makes for a very jarring experience overall.

I think they're going clubbing, and they meet up with someone who informs one of the gang about an underground club that they have to check out, but before anything further happens the rest of the group is invited along to go on a cruise around the harbor where they're to go whale watching as they're passing by the harbor migrating or something.

That might be the reason, but I'm not entirely positive about it. The events seem right to me, as I think it's because the whole thing is built about them going to that underground rave thing and then they just get dropped into the whale-watching tour so suddenly that it feels a little jarring and confusing, but it's been years since I've seen it as well.

Annette, the blonde woman who is almost late for the boat was at the club with her friend.

Anyway, oh my gosh this was great. John pretty much wrapped up my thoughts about the film, and I definitely think Iceland needs to do more slashers, or just horror in general (goo)

I loved how pretty much everyone wasn't your typical slasher film character, and it was pretty hard to tell who would be the survivor (even if it was kind of easy to tell who would be the final FEW). I'm not exactly sure who I liked best, but it's probably a toss up between the gay black guy, the badass asian chick and Marianne. Although Marianne's character was kind of odd. One moment she's a sympathetic character, and then the next she's a raging selfish bitch, but whatever, I liked her lol. I was pretty satisfied with who lived. Pretty much all of them were entertaining though, even if

, and I couldn't tell you even half of their names, despite just getting done watching it, but since they were all entertaining, that's a minor complaint. Plus nobody is watching something with 'Massacre' in the title, to really give a damn about someone's name :P

There were some great kills in this, and a generous amount of blood (goo) The villains were great for the most part too.

The only real problem with this is alot of the actors accents are so thick, you might have trouble knowing what they said. Luckily it's not a hugely 'talky' movie though, it mostly focuses on action (as it should), so it's not THAT annoying.

I'd definitely recommend giving this a watch. I think even people who don't really like slasher films to begin with, might be able to appreciate this, since it's so different from most.
