Horror Quote Of The Moment

Welcome to Under The Morgue.

We have sections for each decade of film, from the 1910s onward, as well as sections for 10+ major franchises, close to 50 'smaller' franchises (containing five entries or less), creative writing, independent filmmaking, photography, music, Non-Horror films and TV shows, forum games, and boredom busters, and to top it all off there's an IM shoutbox at the bottom of the page for random chat. From the tame and 'kid sister friendly' to the psychological and mindbending to cheesy splatter flicks to hardcore torture-oriented horror, there's something here for everyone, so why not dive in?

Simple. What are some films that have either never been released on DVD or Blu Ray, or got shafted by getting a crappy barebones edition, that you feel are deserving of getting the deluxe edition treatment?

Cherry Falls. It'll never happen, but I'd love to see a fully uncut version of this flick.

^ I so totally wish that would happen. That's the most sadly forgotten slasher of the late 90s/early 2000s era.

I agree. Unfortunately, and I think I mentioned this in another thread, every time the movie went to the ratings board (a total of five times, by the way), everything they were told to cut was discarded by the studio. They didn't save anything, so the cut footage is pretty much lost forever.

There is a supposedly an "uncut" version of the film, very difficult to find and I believe it's Spanish audio, but my understanding is that version was what was left before the fifth trip to the MPAA, so even that one is severely cut.

Suicide Club

Even if they don't release a blu-ray, I'd be happy even if we just got an enhanced transfer that sharpened up the visuals some.

Black Christmas

I know that the one they have now is labeled as a special edition, but I'd like one that actually deserves to be called that.

^ I was just thinking that. Yes, we got a special edition ten or so years ago but it really deserves something new.

I swear, one of these days I'm going to become president just so I can launch a Presidential Selects DVD/Blu-Ray line that provides complete versions of films so that no one ever has to release these kinds of movies ever again in order to have one authoritative version on the market. Imagine:

1. A 2-Disc Deluxe Edition of Black Christmas with commentaries, retrospectives and interviews that tell of the impact of the film and it's legacy throughout the genre.

2. A 3-Disc Night of the Living Dead Version that simply compiles everything in one place.
Disc 1: Complete remastering of the film with both of the commentary tracks that were provided for the Dimension/Genius version special edition.
Disc 2: The Colorized Version with the Mike Nelson commentary, the option of watching it with the Elvira's Movie Madness presentation or the MST 3000 broadcast (both minus commercials) plus the 30th Anniversary Edition with the new footage and re-shot score. (Yeah, I know no one wants it, but for collector's sake it should be available, and all the crap is going to be here in one place so it's not like it's going to be spread all throughout the rest of the discs.)
Disc 3: The Bonus Features. The One-for-the-Fire documentary, the Duane Jones and Judith Ripley interviews, the Romero Festival Q & A and all the commercials, trailers and such.

3. A 2-Disc Army of Darkness Edition.
Disc 1: The Original Theatrical Version, The International Cut and a restored Director's Cut, each with appropriate commentaries and opening/ending sequences.
Disc 2: All the bonus features (The Medieval Times making-of, Behind-the-Scenes of KNB Effects, Creating the Deadites Featurette, etc.) and stills, posters, trailers and so on.

Plus, a special proclamation: all theatrically-released horror films will not need to be rated.

I really need to become president.

Ugh, Army of Darkness. I would love not to have to own more than one copy to have all the stuff I want.

It would be amazing if more series were able to do what they did with Halloween. It was nice to be able to cut down on clutter by getting rid of multiples. It would never happen, but I'd love something like that for the Evil Dead series. That seems to be the one that I accumulate a lot of different versions of.

The Green Inferno: There has to be a ton of amazing behind the scenes stuff. I liked the movie, but I would buy a special edition of it just for the features even if I didn't.

^ I'm still pissed about the edition we got, as much as I love the commentary.

The Witch better get a special edition. From what I've read, A LOT of research went into that and I'd love if they included a documentary about that as well as a historical documentary about that time period in general. It'd be really cool for my history buff side.

It Follows needs one as well.

^ Agreed. (un)

New releases SUCK nowadays when it comes to features. The best releases are big blockbuster things like The Hobbit movies and Fast And The Furious and rereleases from Arrow, Scream Factory, Blue Underground, and so on. Nine out of every ten Horror DVDs/BluRays of movies made after 2010 have been shit. I used to be surprised when something like Final Destination 5 came out that had a really bad bluray release. Now I'm more surprised when something like The Babadook comes out that actually gets a fair amount of features.

Fade To Black doesn't have one that I know of. There's an out-of-print DVD but I don't think there are any special features on it.

Final Exam has a release with one or two commentaries and about fifteen minutes of interviews but that's it. Decent release, sure, but not a big special edition.

So yeah, I totally agree with you (especially about Fade To Black which is one of my favorite movies of the early 1980s). (thumbsup)
