A man believes he has put his mysterious past behind him and has dedicated himself to beginning a new, quiet life. But when he meets a young girl under the control of ultra-violent Russian gangsters, he can't stand idly by - he has to help her.

Watched this tonight, and liked it. I kinda rolled my eyes when I noticed Chloe Grace Moretz was in it, but thankfully she doesn't have a lot of screen time lol.

Other than that, this was a pretty good action flick, with some cool kills.

Hey now, I like Chloe! :P See Let Me In and you'll see why. She's great there.

I kept hearing this title pop up on other sites but I never knew what it was about until now. I might give it a watch sometime.

Its pretty bloody. Aside from obvious gunshots, there's a drill kill, and some impalings.

Sold! Love Action movies that don't stick with basic, generic gunshot deaths.

On the whole this one's entertaining enough without really doing much to play on it's rather exciting central premise. The idea of him being a special forces agent that's hidden amongst his own bleak outlook on life in a simple life looking for justice makes for quite a solid base here, and the injunction of the prostitute he has to care for allows this to turn from a drama into a solid action at the drop of a hat when those in charge of her come looking for why she's disappeared, but in the end this one doesn't quite live up to all that potential. The focus on the serious drama between his contemplative look at the end and her entering his life make for quite a contrasting feel with the explosive, exciting action and that's quite apparently overloading the film with scenes of them playing that out which manage to force the film out far longer than it really should be hammering home that concept. Dropping all that in favor of the action, which is highly enjoyable if somewhat grounded in the fact that he's so much more skilled than his opponents tends to make their encounters a tad one-sided and obvious, but the frequency delivered more than makes up for that and generates some pretty enjoyable encounters from the diner massacre as well as the main assault on his house. It's enough to be enjoyable but is brought down slightly by the flaws.

Some people are like slinkies: not good for anything, but you can't help but laugh when one falls down the stairs.

I saw this film twice, once by myself when it came out and again with my mom after it hit VOD. I liked it well enough the first time, but it really held up on repeat viewing. The early parts are slow, I'll admit, but Denzel Washington makes it all very watchable, and when it starts picking up in the third act, it turns into something really great. It was like an action movie version of You're Next. Overall, I easily recommend this for any action fan.

My full review (written after my first viewing; my opinion has gone up since) is here.
